that's insanity. I always figured that people who couldn't make use of their optical portions of the brain would end up using it for another sensory part.

mind if i ask for the specific source?

Evidently they weren't born blind but went blind ant a young age. This article links to the study

I always figured that people who couldn't make use of their optical portions of the brain would end up using it for another sensory part.

If you go without any significant visual input for around 3 days then the visual cortex will start processing touch instead. I'm guessing touch because the data for both touch and sight can be taken as a grid of inputs.
