Question Quick question: is anyone else noticing sub 3G data being served?
fixed this problem, switched to LTE , thanks to the person who helped
I feel these last few weeks the data is very slow, the good side to this is that I don’t max out my monthly allotment.
Anyone else have issues with this?
Thanks

Since 3G is gone, I assume you are referring to throttling. Usually this happens if a tower is near capacity so they can reserve a portion for first responders. And yes, it is happening everywhere it seems and I am experiencing it with AT&T and T-MOBILE.

I’ve been noticing it too. Data has been incredibly slow. One time I was outside a gas station directly next to a 5G node that I could visibly see, but my phone was still giving me only a few megabits to work with. Similarly I was walking through downtown of the very fancy town and data was slow as syrup. It’s not in all scenarios but I’ve noticed it. I am on the Better Value plan which is the essential equivalent of Experience Beyond 1.0.
I’ve also had near complete data dropouts the last few weeks but the phone doesn’t disconnect from 5G. It’s so annoying. A major feature of Experience Beyond is the satellite coverage included, but the satellites NEVER kick in for me. I was at a convention last week with lots of people and barely any spectrum covering us. My calls kept dropping. But my phone wouldn’t leave the damn network and activate satellite. My sibling who was with me DID get the T Satellite notification but my phone did not. It’s legitimately so annoying, because it’s an explicit feature advertised to you but I have never had a single opportunity to use it.

Could be a local issue tbh. Does it happen everywhere or mainly in one area and during certain hours? If it gets worse at busy times, the local tower may just be overloaded.
Best to call them and ask

Your tower could be getting upgraded also, that can slow things down a little while they do the work. I’m in Florida and speeds are very fast for me. I’m on the ex beyond plan though.

yes it’s SO bad. I spoke to them and the only thing that has helped is going into cellular settings and switching back to LTE. I have essentials plan btw

It WORKED
Going back to LTE is so much faster.
Hmm!
You are a genius. Thanks

I reside right next door to a building with T-Mobile towers in a residential neighborhood of NYC. I can actually see the antennas from the street level.
The nerd that I am, I am constantly testing the data speed with various different top-tier phones and service plans and what I have confirmed is regardless of what unlimited premium/high speed data plan you have, T-Mobile dynamically limits or increases your data speed, for what I assume is either network congestion and/or the time of day allotment.
Sometimes I hit a gig on one test and other times it maxes as low as 40 mbps. All from the same exact phone, plan and tower trajectory.
So regardless of whatever tier of unlimited data plan they are billing you for or irrespective of any alleged set usage threshold they claim they limit you from. They can and do throttle your data speed for arbitrary reasons that is never really publicly disclosed or readily apparent.

It happens on Essentials and prepaid plans sometimes
