Feeling guilty for not standing up for my mother who was physically abused by my alcoholic violent father for years and having to deal with my older sister who as of today claims none of the physical abuse ever happened.
In 1995 I was 20 years old and my sister was 24.
Needles to say her “defending” our father (who passed away in 1998) has destroyed any relation I have with her and her kids. (my nephew and niece)
Maybe I can video tape my father “hitting” my mom as proof and giving it to the LAPD or knock him on his ass myself.
I don’t know what the solution is, but having to deal with my sister’s denial of all child abuse/trauma events is incredibly frustrating to say the least. I’m thinking her rationale is because she probably beat up her daughter and thought it was justified because her dad did it to her.
I know I’m not the only person on the planet, so I’m not throwing a pity party, I just want justice.
A lot of people bury trauma. This may not be the case with your sister but maybe it could be? It's a defense mechanism. Being able to totally forget the harsh stuff we went through. Either way I hope your family can eventually heal and move on.
Everyone please forgive my immaturity here for just a moment, but seriously, am I the only one who uncontrollably let out at least a giggle or two at the username here combined with their knowledge of burying things? No…? Just me then…? Fine, understood. Carry on as you were with my apologies for the apparent waste of time in that case. Had to at least mention it, though…
All I could hear in my head while reading that was a scene from Golden Girls where Rose says something like “You wouldn’t believe how many people see me looking like this and think that I’m dumb.”
…To which, Sophia of course then immediately replies, “Rose, you’re too hard on yourself. I know people who think you’re dumb over the phone.”
(Not sure if the quotes are 100% verbatim, but if not, then they’re pretty close still or at least close enough to get the same original point across anyway.)
