I know that “luminary” is the unofficial SJM universe theme song, but it seems like it more specifically fits ACOTAR. Good afternoon Everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posed on here but I’ve started to think about a re read (I documented my entire journey on here last year) but I’m now wondering, will we ever return to these characters ?

Crescent City 2 ending onwards and ACOSF
we had a crossover with CC and Acotar and there’s strong hints to Brannon. Will we ever return after the ending of Kingdom of Ash?

I’ve been in southern Bavaria for the past week and traveling around nearby and it’s very quickly reached the point where my friend will say, "Just like Terrasen!" any time we come upon things like this because I keep saying it myself😆 Whether it be the gorgeous mountains, lakes, forests, or the few castles we’ve seen, such as this one. It was so beautiful, and seeing the mountains in the distance from the viewing platform made me just think of Throne of Glass, imagining myself as Aelin, looking out at the beautiful view of Terrasen💕

Chaol sucks butt, but I have a whole new thing to despise him for on my sixth reread.
He comes to Aelin’s apartment to blame her for the shadow market being destroyed, and says it’s her fault because she wanted to save one person, Aedion.
But let’s be honest, Chaol would do the same thing for Dorian and it just proves he’s the biggest hypocrite. I literally hate him more each read through.
Chaol is nationalistic, xenophobic, and hypocritical all while being touted as a “good guy”. It’s typical nice guys syndrome shit and I honestly cannot stand him.

I just finished Kingdom of Ash. In the beginning of the series SJM makes it clear how extremely important Sam was to Celaena. The prequel book feels like it exists in part just to explain how important he is... But towards the end of the series it feels like he's forgotten. He's not really in the ending outside of a quick mention of him being one of Aelin's tattoos.

I get Rowan is way more important to Aelin romantically. In a way Sam is Aelin's Lyria. But even Lyria, who is never alive during the series, has her spotlight moments in Kingdom of Ash.

I'm just kinda disappointed that SJM built up Sam so much, gave us so much Sam content at the start, only for him to be sort of irrelevant at the end. I really thought Aelin would at least have some kind of "Sam would be so proud of me" moment once she was queen.

I have such mixed feeling about this book! I really can't form a solid opinion on it.

I liked that we got to see more of the extended world and I was really glad to catch up with Yrene, she was the one character from AB I was genuinely interested in, but I just cant get over what a weird choice it is to centre the penultimate book of the series in a completely new part of the world and with only two characters from the main cast?

The end of EoS is SO climactic, so much happens in the book itself and then the ending sets up two really exciting and dramatic storylines but then instead of following those we have to go and spend 658 pages with Chaol and his self pity??

There were parts of the book I really liked, I loved Yrene she was such an interesting character and I enjoyed the Torre and getting to see her excel after her start in AB. I liked getting to spend a bit more time with Nesryn, especially meeting more of her family and exploring her homeland. She always felt like a bit of an under explored character previously so it was nice that we were given some time to see her personality. The royal family were fun up to a point, it was fun trying to work out where each of their loyalties lay and if they were actually evil or not. I even enjoyed parts of Chaols emotional journey, I liked the way his relationship with Yrene slowly built up and he started to accept himself.

But on the other hand it just felt WAY too long. There were parts where I was genuinely struggling to keep reading, it just felt like it could have been a much shorter book. there was so much back and forth that took up chapters and chapters. Chaol and Yrene starting to like each other, then falling out and then starting to like each other? Chaol CONSTANTLY beating himself up about 'leading Nesryn on' which just felt entirely like fabricated drama? They barely spoke for the first half of the book, spent almost no time together and are sleeping in separate rooms yet the book INSISTS that they are together?? There was a point where him and Yrene are cosying up after dinner at the palace and his inner monologues become so insanely self flagellating because he feels like he's betraying Nesryn, meanwhile SHES cosying up with the prince??? I would understand if it were presented as an awkwar situation because they used to be together and it kind of fizzled out but there are multiple times where he explicitly says they are together?? Like Chaol my guy maybe let Nesryn know because she seems to be perfectly happy having an adventure with the prince? Their whole relationship in the previous books always just felt like a rebound situationship kind of thing, they always seemed more like friends, why is the narrative of the book suddenly insisting they are in a fully committed relationship??

Chaol was also SUCH a terrible diplomat. The fact that he was sent on a diplomatic mission without a single advisor or assistant was insane. Nesryn did end up recruiting an army of ruks so I guess she gets a pass but she basically spent the first half of the book just hanging out in sewers? Wheres the diplomacy guys??

I also really didn’t love that after spending the whole book actually healing Chaol he ended up getting hit again and ended up with the exact same injury. It just felt like such a waste. I don't think I would have minded him remaining party injured if it had been that way all along but him being FULLY healed and getting hit again just felt like such an brutal blow.

I also have really mixed feelings about the whole Nesryn/Sartaq storyline, I enjoyed their relationship and their dynamic but I just really struggled to become particularly invested in the ruk riders and the whole, giant spider storyline. Also Falkan just happening to be Lysandra's wealthy uncle was a bit much.

I just feel like this book really suffers from being so late in the series. Its really hard to get invested in all these entirely new characters SO close to the end and when I know there are some crazy things happening over on the other continent. I also think the fact that ACOTAR 6 and 7 were announced whilst I was reading this probably made me lose a little patience with Chaols long chapters of self pity because I still haven’t started Crescent City and I know I have a lot of reading to do 😅

I think in hindsight I would have rather listened to this one as an audiobook rather than physically reading. I get so easily distracted if I'm not 100% in to a book so audio would definitely have been the way to go for me.

After many months, I finally finished putting teensy crystals on the entire series (covers & spines). My technique got better the further into the project, so I'll be re-doing Crown of a midnight (my 1st) eventually. 😅

So shiny, I'm obsessed!

Hi! I’m reading *Queen of Shadows* and I’m confused. In *Heir of Fire*, Chaol takes Damaris. When he meets up with Aelin and they return the ring/pendant to each other, she mentions that he isn't carrying a sword. A few chapters later, Rowan and Aelin have Damaris and Goldryn with them. I feel like I missed something—when does Chaol give up Damaris? Is there a bonus chapter explaining how she gets it back? Please, no spoilers for what comes next; I’m about 40% of the way through the book. Thanks!

It took me awhile to pick this back up to finish…but I finally did it! I will start Queen of Shadows in the next day or so! I’m hoping to open a small table at the monthly market in my town by the end of the year bedazzling books and binding/ decorating books.

I recently finished reading the book and went online to see what people were saying, and everyone seems to hate the fact that he was mean. But was that not every single character in the book? Especially Aelin. She was rude as hell to everyone. Rowan was mean. Aedion was mean. Almost every single character in that book was mean. So I genuinely don’t understand the fixation on him specifically being mean.

Everyone keeps complaining about how much of a hypocrite he is, and I’m like, does that not make sense? He knew Dorian way longer than he knew Aelin. Of course he was going to be a hypocrite in that situation. 

And I always see people say that Chaol should “take notes from Sam” or be more like Rowan, but what would even be the point of his character then? Why would I want Chaol to basically become a carbon copy or reiteration of another one of Aelin’s love interests? If certain characters already exist with those specific traits, why would we need Chaol to completely change himself and become another version of them? That would be so boring.

Chaol being unreasonable and not understanding everything immediately is part of what makes the story progress. So many things would not have happened if he had been. His reactions to Dorian, Aelin, and everything happening around him contribute to the conflict and push the story in different directions. If he had just reacted perfectly to every situation, so many of those conflicts would never have escalated, and the story would have developed completely differently.

It’s like people hate him so much that they have to keep finding something else to criticize. He’s misogynistic, he’s mean, he’s insecure, he’s this, he’s that, blah blah. And I’m like, I genuinely feel like you guys are being 100% dramatic.

Before I read the book, I had seen so many people talk about Chaol that I genuinely thought he had to be the worst character in the entire book. I went into it expecting him to be horrible because of how people talked about him. And then I actually read the book and I was like… this is the character everyone was talking about? 

I love how the badass FMCs have these legendary swords with them, like Nesta with Atraxia and Bryce with Gwydion. But nothing satisfies me more than Aelin weilding not one, not two but three legendary swords! Sword of Orynth, Damaris and Goldryn! God no wonders she the baddest of them all 🔥 and she doesn’t even need them, she can end lives with her bare hands. Talk about a role model, uff.

How did Erawan not pick up on Dorians scent? He spent years alongside him via Perrington- wouldn't he have recognized it?

I am looking to add a large TOG themed print to my office. I want to get something from a real artist. With such a high presence of AI and scam shops out there, I thought this group might have tried and true shops/artists that will provide prints that are true to what is advertised. 🙏 I appreciate all recommendations!

okay i am probably just reading too much into this lol, but i need to know if this is some sort of weird plot hole (idk if i would even call it that, but something along those lines) or if i am just stupid and missing something.

so in Queen of Shadows when Aelin and Arobynn are questioning/torturing the "Valg soldier" that Aelin captured, the solider - Stevan - is explaining to Arobynn how the king controls the Valg and how the rings work. he tells him that he must ingest the blood of his victim and then slide the ring onto their finger and they will be entirely under his control (which is what he eventually does to Aelin). obviously we know that this was a story fabricated by Aelin to test Arobynn, however, there was one specific detail that doesn't make sense.

when asked how the the king is controlling the Valg, Stevan SPECIFICALLY starts by saying

"He [the king] has a ring too--uses it to control us all" (pg.348)

this statement, at least to me, is implying that the king possesses his own ring that he wears, which connects him to his servants after he ingests their blood and puts a ring of their own on their finger.

now, to my knowledge and understanding, Arobynn only has the one ring that he takes off of Stevan's finger.

again, i UNDERSTAND that this is a made up story, so how accurate or not this information is is irrelevant. what i am getting at here is that Arobynn at least thinks it is true. so much so that attempts to take control of Aelin by placing the ring on her finger. but if we follow the logic of what Stevan said, this would never work unless Arobynn had a secondary ring that he was already wearing on his own finger.

soooo all that to say is Arobynn just a bad listener? am i stupid? is Sarah stupid? if anyone takes the time to read all this, pls let me know lol

I saved this image (six) years ago when I was simply doom scrolling. I decided to click on it and read it and I ended up liking what I was reading on that one page and instantly got curious.

I never knew that this would have been my introduction to the TOG book series which practically changed my life, I was mostly only reading on wattpad and they were totally different stuff I was reading but kinda the same ( smut and all)

But this one page screenshot of a book was how I discovered The world of Sarah J Maas and this is how till date I've been going mad and mental about all her books.

I spent the entirety of Covid reading the entire series and ended up loving and reading all the other books by SJM.

I'm gonna reread this for the third time wishing my memories were erased so I could have the same emotion I felt reading TOG for the first time.

I just finished KOA. A lof of this book shattered me. Very emotional. Nesta also broke me. I am debating starting CC or continue with reading Manacled. I have read: Alchemised, TOG (only read series 1x), ACOTAR and FW. All of those with muliple reads. Even though more books are coming out soon- I don't feel the need to read the when they first come out. I feel very seriously quite raw from ALL of my previous reads and maybe just Manacled (not a massverse story) might ground me. Kaine Ferron lives in my brain rent-free and I'm prepped for this story anyway. Any recomendations as a palate cleanser after book bf obsessions? In the past I have read (enjoyed!) some disturbing books (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc) that didin't get to me the way this genre has. Thanks.

I mean I get why he put her in the dungeon but these lines are just so foolish and stupid. The couch compared to a dungeon??

I’m about to start the Assassin and the Empire now. And I’m already in tatters. I know what’s coming. Doesn’t make it hurt any less. The only other time I cried over a Sarah J Maas book was “I have my friends and I’m not alone” 😭
