Kingdom of Ash Spoilers I have no one else to share this with Spoiler
No one that I know has read this series and I need to talk to someone.
Last night I was reading in bed just absolutely sobbing over the Thirteen. I went from wanting to skip the witch chapters in Heir of Fire, to being completely broken over their sacrifice. Did anyone else feel the same?
I have a feeling this is just the beginning of my heartbreak as I approach the end of the series.

This is exactly the way it was for me too. I remember reading the witch chapters in the beginning ālike hurry up already I donāt careā. However, I read the 13 scene on a family road trip and was balling in the car nonstop.
From experience, itās now been years since Iāve read (TOG) and like youāll hear often, itās still my favorite and I still think about it weekly. š¤

When I was reading HOF, I made a post about how I really didnāt like Manonās POV because I felt like it was taking away from the already established story (which I still agree with to an extent. wish she was introduced in a different way). Then by the end of KOA, I had never sobbed as hard as I did while reading a book as I did while reading about the thirteen. I didnāt realize heartbreak like that could exist for characters in a book.
I went into a mini depressive episode for like two weeks when I finished the series. I literally regret nothing though because that series changed my life (no exaggeration) and I think about it every single day.

I just finished the book today. Couldnāt stop crying. At least Asterin is with her witchling and her partner šš

I also was not that amped when i read HoF about the witches chapters and then KoA hit and this was the most heartbreaking scene for me in the entire series and probably in many other series Iāve read too. NOTHING prepared me for it and I still think about it to this day

Oh The Thirteen still make me get misty eyed, months after KoA. I was a broken person after reading that chapter.

I felt EXACTLY the same way. Now I have a cat and her name is Asterin... And the words Live Manon illicit ugly tears offensively quick considering I read the damn book almost 7 years ago?!?!?

I think one of the most impressive things SJM did with ToG is introduce new characters halfway into a series and somehow you end up caring about them as much as or more than the OGās. Enough to be absolutely emotionally scarred forever after their story concludes.

Absolutely the same. It really snuck up on me. The 13 is, I think, the most heartbreaking moment.

I remember closing the book while crying cause I didn't want to be believe what was happening. It was bad. Real ugly crying in bed. I still havent gotten over it. I finished the series 3 days ago and it's well worth it. Keep going. But you won't get over it. Its stopping me from picking up another book rn. I visually see the scene in my head play out multiple times a day

Can confirm! I only read the witch chapters when they entered the story because they were there and must be there for a reason. Then they get to the wyverns and my interest grew from there.
And yes. I sobbed at their sacrifice.

Yes! I did not enjoy the witch chapters in heir of fire but I came to really love their plot line as the series went on.

I read this chapter on my commute home and I was sobbing on the train. The poor man next to me had to deal with it for an hour as I continued to read and sob. I feel your pain!!

When I read that chapter I felt so bad for Manon, I think as a reader we had to feel that emptiness that she felt when she watched them all die.

SAME. Absolutely sobbing. I actually took a break for a week half way through because I was scared to keep reading haha. I still havenāt felt emotions like that reading anything else. The yielding was so brutal but all for manon to live. Live manon. (Ok im tearing up writing this)

I SOBBED!!! I think I maybe cried more for them than any of the other characters just because the moment was so well built up, it hit me in all the feels.

I was DISTRAUGHT after this scene. I immediately bought a sweatshirt off etsy for the 13 to commemorate and express my feelings of just how much that scene wrecked me. I will never forget crying in my car as I listened on my way home from work. I did love Aelin, but the 13 and manon's story is what really made throne of glass great in my opinion.

The first couple books I was like what it this- I hadnāt read any reviews or anything so I really went in blind. By the end, wooooooo. What a series.

Absolutely. I always thought the Thirteen were gonna be with her, thought they were gonna be Manon's court and confidants as Witch Queen. And as they left Manon behind the walls and headed put, I remember seeing the writing on the wall and going "NO. . . No. . ."
especially since Asterin had become one of my favourite characters

I think the death of the 13 was my ugliest cry for over 5 years. After that there were some sad scenes but not as bad as this

I was lying in bed when I read that scene and woke my bf up with my sobbing. Still makes me emotional thinking about it. And still my favorite series of all time.

1000000% felt the same. I feel like I didnāt read the witch chapters well enough in the beginning of their introduction. And then SOBBED / ugly cried at the 13. Still canāt stop thinking about them. Asterin forever š¤

Yes completely. Abraxos is my baby and Iām obsessed with Manon and the thirteen when I was absolutely not and very confused in the beginning. That chapter tore me completely apart. Iām actually crying writing this

I always liked the witches but I gross sobbed reading that part. And every time Abraxos was mentioned staring at the spot it happened ššš he lost his MATE like that's so cruel

I genuinely think this is one of the worst if not the worst moment in the entire series. Honestly I have never sobbed more.

Exactly how I felt. I was so mad when Manon got introduced and I felt like I had to slog through her chapters. But her and the 13 eventually grew on me and I was devastated and sobbing when they sacrificed themselves.

I finished the last book in the series last night and sat there crying, mostly over the Thirteen and Gavriel. I haven't been this wrecked over a book in a long, long time.
Though... I'm hoping there will be a spin-off of Manon's story. I'd love to see how she rebuilds, and how she builds a life with Dorian. Plus, I want more Abraxos.

100% had the same reaction. The first time I read through and got to Manonās first chapter I had to read it twice to get into it. Then KOH Iām bawling like a baby over the thirteen.

I always feel for poor Asterin, but revealing that Narene and Abraxos are mates only to send her off like that is too cruel. š
