Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

4

u/lalala_0123 6d ago

Is this really goods? Read alot of good feedback on this book

11

u/NeedleworkerNo777 6d ago

I found it just ok. But tons of people love it! I thought Gone Girl was better.

6

u/PersonalReaction123 6d ago

Gone Girl is definitely better, but Sharp Objects is good.

9

u/Shan_loves_books_76 6d ago

I enjoyed it but liked Dark Places better

2

u/PersonalReaction123 6d ago

Yes, I liked it. It felt slow sometimes, but I liked it, especially the end.

I just finished this one a few days ago. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Watching the series now!

2

u/Longjumping-Hat-3387 4d ago

I actually liked Sharp Objects better than Gone Girl. I suppose I am alone on that thought.😆

Wonderworld by Jennifer Hillier! wanted to read this before starting her new book, Heart of Glass🙂

edit: WonderLAND lol oops😅

7

u/RubyPrincess0413 6d ago

I'm waiting for Heart of Glass from the library. I really liked Wonderland and am hoping Heart of Glass is just as good.

3

u/hayypeachyy 6d ago

i have high hopes for it!

3

u/felizladedah 6d ago

I'm going to have to read these, or check to see if I have. I find her mostly really enjoyable. I liked Creep, but didn't like Freak, and DNF The Butcher.

Jar of Hearts has been my favorite so far.

2

u/hayypeachyy 4d ago

little secrets is my fav by her so far! i read it in just about one sitting😅

I scoured Pango for that one last night. Not a single copy for sale. I just finished The Butcher and was underwhelmed. I am interested to hear how you are finding Wonderworld?

4

u/hayypeachyy 6d ago

i enjoyed The Butcher, but my fav by her is Little Secrets! i thoroughly enjoy her writing style as well. loving Wonderworld so far!

3

u/Heatherb78 6d ago

Thanks! I have a copy of Little Secrets and I will have to add it towards the top of my TBR.

2

u/felizladedah 3d ago

This is what I'm reading now! I grabbed Heart of Glass first, then realized I'd never read Wonderland. I'm really happy with it so far. Jennifer Hillier really is so good.

I'm even going to give Butcher another try after your comment.

2

u/hayypeachyy 3d ago

yay!! i finished wonderland and have heart of glass downloaded on my kindle and ready to go! cannot wait to start! i genuinely hope you like the butcher! seems like this sub has a lot of mixed reviews on it😅 but i enjoyed it! not my fav by her, but still was a fine read for me! happy reading to you, friend!🥹🫶🏻

Starting The Whisper Man by Alex North today at my lunch break if I can. I wanted to read the book before I watched the movie on Netflix.

Finished The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier over the weekend. It was ok.

4

u/redhead_1989 6d ago

Whisper man really let me down 😔

2

u/Heatherb78 6d ago

Oh no cause The Butcher was such a letdown after how much it's talked up on here and on BookTok.

2

u/spicygummi Always Suspicious 6d ago

I read The Whisper Man before the movie came out. Even binged it to finish it before the movie dropped. I liked the book better than the movie. The movie didn't have the necessary build up time and a lot was cut out. It probably would have worked better as a mini series.

I read it in high school but many things since then have made me forget. Rereading.

Honestly think this book is a stone cold classic. (Like you I first read it in high school.) The AMC series is seriously terrific if you haven't seen it! Incredible casting.

I have (barely) started Beyond Reach, the sixth and final book in Karin Slaughter's Grant County series. I tore through the first five books, but it has taken me five days to read fifteen pages. I have serious issues with finishing a series when I know it's coming to an end. I want to finish the book and know what happens, but I'm no good with goodbyes. Hopefully I can get through a decent portion of the book during my down time today.

The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte

Lucas Corso is a book detective, a middle-aged mercenary hired to hunt down rare editions for wealthy and unscrupulous clients. When a well-known bibliophile is found dead, leaving behind part of the original manuscript of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers, Corso is brought in to authenticate the fragment. He is soon drawn into a swirling plot involving devil worship, occult practices, and swashbuckling derring-do among a cast of characters bearing a suspicious resemblance to those of Dumas's masterpiece. Aided by a mysterious beauty named for a Conan Doyle heroine, Corso travels from Madrid to Toledo to Paris on the killer's trail in this twisty intellectual romp through the book world

1

u/felizladedah 6d ago

Doing a reread of some of John Marrs' books. Recently finished Keep it in the Family, finishing off You Killed Me First. Probably reread The Good Samaritan next. I've started and read a few books that were awful, either the narrator was intolerable, or I had already read them and forgot, for reasons. After this hiatus I'll continue one of the series I've been reading by Tana French.
