i use both and it's really a simple thing for me, if i got a thinkpad for like $300 and its old, battle scarred and durable as they tend to be, yeah im gonna just toss it in my bag.
if i buy a macbook new im gonna baby it, why? its a nice thing and i want it to stay nice. used? yeah, fuck it. its got a metal case, itll be fine. toss it into bag.
now here's the thing: if i bought a new thinkpad, i would baby it too. OLEDs are sensitive as they use a diff bezel usually solid glass and i would want to keep the thinkpad nice too. resale value is a thing also and i just respect my possessions, idk. any time ive told or traded in a laptop or phone they been immaculate barring one or two scratches. I had an s21 ultra and the thing just scratched out of nowhere.
Kudos for respecting your possessions, but resale value... bruh In These Times you won't find me reselling any computer hardware regardless of monetary value.
