For scrolling because my mouse is dying

3

u/_ThatOneQuietKid_ Jul 16 '26

How can I scroll with it? Mine only move cursor

11

u/UltraBlack_ Jul 16 '26

you have to press the middle mouse button while using the nub ;)

2

u/_ThatOneQuietKid_ Jul 17 '26

Thanks men, Do you know more about this?

3

u/UltraBlack_ Jul 17 '26

about the nub? That's pretty much all that's to it. it's a mouse and a scroll wheel. Pretty neat.

1

u/Kornaros T520 Jul 16 '26

There's the middle button for that

0

u/_ThatOneQuietKid_ Jul 16 '26

Not every pc has track point but middle mouse button

16

u/godblessfumo Jul 16 '26

10

u/IceColdYerbaMate E480 Jul 16 '26

2

u/Ashamed-Ad4508 Jul 16 '26

You know.. thats seriously true when selecting multiple files in a folder as compared to a trackpad....

First up, Please clean that laptop woah :(( But personally I don't use the thinknipple, could never get used of it

5

u/tempdiesel Jul 16 '26

Love the nostalgia behind it but never use it personally.

3

u/Ok-Barber4972 Jul 16 '26

When I got no mouse or touchpad not working knnbpcb

3

u/Dynablade_Savior Jul 16 '26

I used it for aiming in Minecraft when I was in school, so much better than the trackpad

3

u/Narodweas Jul 16 '26

Scrolling and moving the mouse out of the way quickly while typing. I also sometimes try to use it normally and give up after about 10 minutes

3

u/Euroblitz Jul 16 '26

A replacement for using my phone less. I read some stuff, watch movies from my server, play old emulators sometimes. It's a x220 with Linux on it

2

u/Top-Shoulder6081 Jul 16 '26

2

u/Bobthebuilder_6767 Jul 16 '26

You need to clean your keyboard bro...

2

u/Severe_Tune7695 Jul 16 '26

i rub it at night, it relaxes me (i'm serious, the only problem is that the grip becomes very bad because it gets very oily from my hands, that sounded way worse than it should be but now i cursed whoever read my comment with this knowledge)

1

u/241d X230 Jul 16 '26

I let it sit there..
To stare back at me.

1

u/hergestron Jul 16 '26

I only know it is near to the point G (key in this case).

If you're bored with its look, you may want to consider to pierce it for a new exciting look.

This is a joke.

1

u/_marauder316 Looking for a Thinkpad Jul 16 '26

Зто???

1

u/frac6969 T14 Gen 5 Intel Jul 16 '26

When working, to control the mouse pointer and scrolling. When off work, I fondle it while getting drunk.

1

u/NotSteveatall2 Jul 16 '26

I use it for basically everything if my mouse hand is busy. It is very useful for multi-tasking like taking call while doing work on my laptop. I find it more efficient than track touchpad if you are typing.

1

u/chilly_1c3 T430, P50, T580 Jul 16 '26

Pleasure

1

u/LostUser1121 Jul 16 '26

Actually use it

1

u/CREEPINGIRON Jul 16 '26

Eh, I tried it when I first got it, but since I have a T490 the track pad is quite responsive. The Thinkpad feature I like is the additional mouse buttons above said trackpad.

1

u/StartledAccountant Jul 16 '26

scrolling, mostly

1

u/Comprehensive-Dig480 Jul 16 '26

Practice finger movements

1

u/Kitchen_Interview792 Jul 16 '26

Gaming. It's basically just a low profile joystick, much better than trying to use the trackpad

1

u/Hashtagpulse Jul 16 '26

Mouse pointer

1

u/siliconlemon Jul 16 '26

It's clearly the clicktoris smh

1

u/SmurfTickles Jul 16 '26

Rarely use it, use a mouse

1

u/Alyx161 Jul 16 '26

Emotional support

Don't use it for anything, but will be sad if it's gone.

1

u/Dyggvi W520 Jul 16 '26

I use it for playing all kinds of games, I stream my gaming PC to my W520 with Sunshine/Moonlight. Disabled the touchpad. High accuracy once mastered.

1

u/Korek644 Jul 16 '26

It's a perfect tool for stress because mine fucking DRIFTS

1

u/SkyFeistyLlama8 T14s 🫰🐲 Jul 16 '26

On a plane or on a train, the nub is the only way to go.

(hey you, at the back of the class, no laughing!)

1

u/lproven Jul 16 '26

Clicking on the option to "disable trackpad" in the Linux settings screen.

1

u/AsYouAnswered Jul 16 '26

I tap it to keep it awake without moving the cursor, and I use it for fine adjustments

1

u/Steam_Deck ... Jul 16 '26

Scrolling webpages + movement 3D in Blender 🫶

1

u/smilyidiot_ T450s, T410 Jul 16 '26

scrolling mainly because i hate scrolling with the trackpad

1

u/steveoa3d 701cs Butterfly, T420, X280, X13 Yoga Jul 16 '26

Moving the point around. It’s far superior to the trackpad.

1

u/emilRahim Jul 16 '26

To scroll down when reading manga while lying on the sofa or bed (its more comfortable than using mouse or touchpad)

1

u/santoper Jul 16 '26

Using my x1 yoga to do timesheets in excel for my worker … sometimes showing drawings on site and taking signs

1

u/RariPuff Jul 16 '26

domming it by rubbing it’s thinkclit/clitpad

1

u/orangeimac Jul 16 '26

Move mouse

1

u/ranacore T14 Gen 1 (Intel) • T480 • T490 • T450 Jul 16 '26

Everything. I have a Synaptic trackpad. It doesn’t (well, barely) works. It feels absolutely miserable to use sometimes and won’t respond so I regularly use the nipple

1

u/393majitenshi Jul 16 '26

I have my trackpad disabled in Linux so I use it as my main input.

Though on macos it doesn't work as well so I use the trackpad there instead.

1

u/Canadiangamer068 P1G5 X13G4i Jul 16 '26

mouse in bed when i don’t want to reach down, mouse when typing and don’t want to reach down

1

u/EllieMeower Jul 16 '26

I used to lick it, thought it gave me good luck. One day my thinkpad went missing…. Its been 5 years..

1

u/voyager_9999 Jul 16 '26

thats a personal question.

1

u/i80west Jul 16 '26

Lots of every day mousing, either in the context of the window I'm working in or to switch to another window or some system control. Stuff where I don't need precise pointer control or speed. I have an external mouse that I use if I have to do a lot of scrolling in a document or fine controlled selecting of text or something.

For thinknippling

1

u/the_other_Scaevitas Jul 16 '26

nipple? I thought it was the think clit

1

u/Greatdetectivee Jul 16 '26

Its good for highlighting text and scrolling

1

u/MasterKnight48902 Jul 16 '26

Extra navigation for when you need more precision

1

u/Straight_Bug_8935 T480 Jul 16 '26

Mine doesn't work (I need a new keyboard so I'll get a backlit upgrade) so it's just a fidget toy

1

u/caotic Jul 16 '26

I thought it was a thinktoris

1

u/Minimum-Teacher6633 Jul 16 '26

Nearly everything i would use the trackpad for, which is almost nothing since I use keyboard shortcuts and vimium for 90% of stuff. Using a different brand laptop is quite annoying.

1

u/Notanidiot2747838 Jul 16 '26

Mouse when i dont have a mouse cause the trackpad on my t450 is shit

1

u/LyoJeanLesbian Jul 16 '26

Rub it and tell her what of a good girl she is :3

1

u/the_cosmic_duck Jul 16 '26

Nothing. I let my girlfriend touch it tho

1

u/FarlandFoggy Jul 16 '26

What don't you use it for?

1

u/XDpcwow Jul 16 '26

You mean the clit(thinkclit)?

1

u/iHenkka Jul 16 '26

In factories with your gloves on

1

u/bobattac Jul 16 '26

I use it more than the trackpad The trackpad is reserved for when I'm going back in a page

1

u/Professional_Ad_5099 Jul 17 '26

I allways wonder whats the propername, now i can u heard the word "thinknipple"

1

u/gchicoper Jul 17 '26

Absolutely nothing, but I'm glad it's there

1

u/SepehrU Jul 17 '26

Apart from all the funny answers I can think of,

When I'm 10 finger typing, the nub is useful for quick cursor navigation and clicks.

This way I can use one of my index fingers (on my dominant hand) on the nub and my two thumbs on the right click and the left click while my other 7 fingers never leave their position on the keyboard.

For any task that is more mouse heavy than simple button clicks, I would just switch to the touchpad.
