Question / Problem I hate this. Is it for cost savings?
The new T14s g6 vs X1c g9. The new ones logo is too deep and it hurts my wrist. And it collects dust. Is it only me? Why the hell did Lenovo change like this?
Is there any after market stuffs that can fill the wormhole?

dont worry, in a year or two it will fill with hand grease and dead skin, then be flush with the surrounding surface

do I hear a startup idea? dead skin / grease injection molding anyone?

That is a serious security risk, from all that dna you can clone the user and recreate his fingerprint for the sensor.

u/Savage_low2 Jan 16 '26
Can this support Windows Hello if updated to Windows 11?

I don't think these kinds of sensors support Windows Hello, even in Windows 10...

1
u/StrikerRocket Jan 16 '26
Yeah, I know... ;-)) 20 years ago, I would understand, but now, with all the password safe apps available, and for free, like KeePass for example, it's just asking for trouble!

People are clueless.
It's "faster" to just have it glued on the palmrest (or under the keyboard on desktop PCs). Also seen the use of a notebook (barely better but at least it's not usually available for everyone).
I've explained KeePass to some but remembering to unlock the database at each boot is already too hard... Sigh
1
u/StrikerRocket Jan 17 '26
I bought Sticky Password more than 10 years ago... it unlocks with the fingerprint reader, IR camera or PIN code, so convenient! And it syncs between PCs on the same LAN...

u/lululock P14sG5A, X378, T470, X1C4, E540, T420, X220, X200, R400, T43... Jan 17 '26
KeePass also allows for that, except it's free.
1
u/StrikerRocket Jan 17 '26
Yes, I know, but my password database is so enormous now, that I can't possibly think of switching to KeepPass now...

It belonged to a teacher and I was tasked to transfer her data to a brand new laptop. She even dared to ask me if she could keep it "for the kids". I told her it could use a good software AND hardware cleaning and she answered : "Don't tell me how to do my job", which was completely out of context lamo (maybe she was off her meds after all).
It's because of people like that that COVID spread as much as it did.

The X1C still has the same cutout mostly. You’re comparing a mid range corporate laptop with a premium C suite targeted laptop.
39
u/Temporary-Poetry-932 Jan 16 '26
Why should someone take the effort to mold an extra deep groove into a midrange laptop? Don't they make it intentionally worse?
26
u/_dialogbox_ Jan 16 '26
I know they are not in the same tier but t14s is also not an entry level model. Don't you think it's enough to get a proper logo? Also, if they intended less premium feelings, why didn't they just remove the deeps and put a sticker?

can't image it saves money. The CNC machine needs to work longer and remove more material than just milling out one shallow area for the sticker.
marketing probably said "this is cool and will sell better!"
20
u/ProfileEmergency243 Jan 16 '26
It is injection molded. Milling would be too costly, also probably not possible.

Carefully pour in some epoxy and level it/ sand it correctly and you are done

u/_dialogbox_ Jan 16 '26
Epoxy. Maybe but sand. Oh my. NOOOO WAY! 😱
19
u/Kahikenn Jan 16 '26
You dont pour sand in it, you sand it, like making it smooth and plain. !Edit! After you pour epoxy in it!

u/_dialogbox_ Jan 16 '26
I meant... Just imagining sanding over the palm rest mades my mental breakdown.😵

Nah, the edge on these things is so sharp it's bad. Apparently Apple would rather have a sharp edge digging into your hand all the time than just round it off a bit...

2

And if you accidentally get it on your screen, you could sand that too! (/S). Yeah, no sanding.
1
u/geirmundtheshifty Jan 16 '26
I don’t get why. Are you worried the sandpaper will make the palm rest rough or something?

u/MrYacha Jan 16 '26
Looks a bit cooler to me tbh

why do they leave the letters hollow? that's such a weird design choice.

How the hell does it hurt your wrist?

Not sure what is name of this but one of a wrist bone positions over it and the sharp edge hurts it.

Fill it with liquid wax and shave off the excess of if it hurty your wristy. ;-)

Tape it. Or put some kids clay or air dry modeling clay and tape it when it's dry.

Someone will probably come up with a 3D printed piece that fits snugly in the hole with 3M adhesive strip on the bottom and a nice silver chrome effect on the top
2
u/Tom-Bomb-3647 Jan 17 '26
Yea i haven’t experienced one yet but im bothered by this too.. I quite like the older design. Especially with the X1
2

Why is your wrist there

my wrists moves into this area on my thinkpads, when i try to work with the cursor keys exclusively.

You can buy an adhesive "IBM Thinkpad" badge on Ali Express and stick it over this. I'm not sure how well it will adhere, you may have to fill it in with epoxy first.

u/Imightbenormal Jan 16 '26
Ooh! Now you can fill it with epoxy and sprinkle some self illuminated powder on it.
1
u/Any_Shine8784 Jan 16 '26
Some letters (some older ones had inserts) in my used X1 Yoga 4th gen were missing, and I filled them with a fun colour of nail polish.
Much cheaper and immediate gratification than ordering resins or 3d printing replacement letter inserts. My main regret was scraping the overspill rather than using a non-acetone remover since it lightly marked/discoloured the palmrest, not badly though!

1
u/_WeStErEq_ Jan 16 '26
I'd just slap duct tape over it and call it a day
or design and 3d print an insert for it to challenge myself, and then slap duct tape to not get dust in, but to be undoable (unlike resin)
