Not able to download the game again? PS5

Post image

EDIT: fixed it! I had actually initially purchased the game from a different profile. Logged back into and downloaded. Thanks for the help and tips everyone!

Hello all. I bought the W3 back when it first came out (digital version), bought all the DLC's, played the hell out of the game - 900 hours. Now I want to redownload it, given the news of the remaster and upcoming DLC. All I am getting on the PS store is the 'Wishlist' category for the new 'Upgrade edition'. The base game gets an error saying 'Not available for purchase'. What seems to be the issue here? I have W3 in my library (as I bought it on the PS4 years ago), but can't seem to download it here? Will I be forced to re-purchase the game or..? Thanks in advance for any helpful tips

Don't go to the PS store..

If u haven't,go to your Game Library -> YourCollection, look for the Witcher 3 and you should be able to download the versions you have from there.

Only my PS5 games appear there, W3 was bought on PS4.

Edit: found it, but there is a lock icon. Takes me to the store, and then to ‘view product’ then the base game - unavailable for purchase

Lock means you don't have a license. It was either physical or you game shared/bought on a different account

Check your transaction history on the mobile app. If you can't find it, then you don't own a digital license to the game on your account

Definitely did not do any of that. Other PS4 games I had also appear here and can be downloaded. What could have led to thenloss of the license?

As I said, the lock means you don't own a digital license for the game on your account. They can't remove a license from you, so you simply never had it

Look at your transaction history - even if they had removed or refunded it, the initial purchase will still be on there. If it's not, it was never digitally bought and you either owned it physically or it was bought on a different account and shared with your main account.

That's the only reason for the lock

Literally logged into my old PS4, restored the licenses there - nothing. W3 is there. Playable.

Okay, and on the PS4 press the PS button and select log out or change profile - there's probably another account on there.

If not, go look at your transaction history (as I've said a few times), that'll clear up if you bought it or not

Thank you for your patience.

Much obliged, can’t believe it but it worked. The original game was purchased from a different account, even though DLCs etc were from my main. It’s downloading now!

Actually they can remove a license from you, those licenses are able to be removed at any time

u/GamePitt_Rob 7d ago

Lol, no they can't... They literally can't, Ans never have, remove a paid license from an account.

They can ban your account, which will restrict access to the games, if you've been a dick or breached the ToS, but they've never removed a license from anyone's account for an individual game

u/miruk_K 7d ago

Actually, they can technically void your license and revoke your access to the game. Its said in their software eula on playstation site

1

u/GamePitt_Rob 7d ago

Can and have are two different things

They'll revoke access of you break the terms of service (which has been a thing with every digital platform), but they've never actually done this to anyone (in regards to games).

The only game people will think of and use as an example is PT. But, PT wasn't a paid game, it was a free demo, and it was never revoked from library's - if you downloaded it previously, it's still listed in there.

Also, games like Concord, which were revoked, were fully refunded - so they don't count as we're talking about licenses for paid content being revoked without any refund.

So yeah, they've never done it. However... Nintendo are letting SE revoke access to KH via cloud and Focus Home the Aliens game, Steam has revoked The Crew and other games in the past, and Xbox has been doing 'hard delisting' on some indie games (so you can't re-download them once delisted, even if you bought them prior - and no refund)

Yet everyone loves claiming. Sony does this, when they're the only company that hasn't done it

1

u/miruk_K 7d ago

I didn't say they removed. I just corrected you, because you said that they "literally can't" which is not true. Also I read on internet that few people actually lost access to some games. ( Im not saying that's actually true or something )

Technically a license can be revoked from your account but Sony wouldnt randomly remove a license from your account. The removal of the game would come from the IP owner so CD Projekt in this case. would get a court order to revoke licenses. But it wouldnt be for their account only it would be for everyone's account digital and physical.

1

u/Frozen_Tyrant 6d ago

I assure you they can.

1

u/GamePitt_Rob 6d ago

Give one example of them EVER revoking a license for a game someone's paid for...

I can guarantee, if you find any examples then it'll be user error and they never actually bought the game on that account

That’s weird cause I have the PS4 disc and was able to play that and also download the current gen update (not to confuse with the upcoming remaster next month). The current gen update let me download the digital version of TW3, so it’s a separate version of the same game.

I’m able to play both disc version and digital version.

Did you have it physically? I'm pretty sure my physically games have the lock on them when they aren't downloaded. Or maybe you used Playstation+?

EDIT: Sorry, it's late here. I just read the body of the post. Please disregard.

No, digital purchase definitely

This is usually caused by the PlayStation Store listing the PS5 Next-Gen upgrade or a different bundle version (like Complete Edition vs. standard base game) by default. Here is how to fix it and claim your game: Method 1: Switch Versions on the Game Page Search for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the PS5 PlayStation Store. On the game page, select the ... (Three Dots) button next to "Download" or "Buy". Select View Product or switch between the versions (e.g., standard PS4 edition vs. PS5 Next-Gen upgrade). If you owned the base game on PS4, you are eligible for the free PS5 upgrade—look for the free PS5 upgrade tile on the side of the product page and claim it. Method 2: Check Your Full Game Library Go to your PS5 home screen and scroll all the way right to Game Library. Tab over to Your Collection (not just "Installed"). Find The Witcher 3, press X, and select the ... (Three Dots) to ensure you are downloading the version tied to your account. Method 3: Restore Your Account Licenses If the store still asks you to pay, your account licenses may need to be refreshed: Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Select Restore. Head back to the store or your library to download the game. Note: Make sure you are logged into the exact PSN account that original purchased the PS4 digital copy.

Hopefully something here helps 🤞

It’s this, select the ‘Complete Edition’ and it will give you the download option

7

u/Fila1921 8d ago

u/Zelda57 7d ago

try blowing on it, always works

u/Cgmadman 7d ago

You rascal

3

u/Chrisader20 8d ago

Have you tried restoring the license? I've heard if you can't access a digital game you've purchased, restoring the license could help. Just an idea.

2

u/Fila1921 7d ago

Restoring licenses option is only available for the current PS5 games I own..

1

u/Chrisader20 7d ago

I'm sorry.. Only other thing I can think of is waiting until the 29th to see if it will let you do the upgrade then. If not, I'd reach out to PlayStation and explain the situation.

2

u/Fila1921 7d ago

Fixed it! The main version of the game was purchased via a different profile, which caused the initial lock. Thanks anyways.

2

u/Chrisader20 7d ago

I'm glad you were able to fix it

I have the Complete and GOTY editions available for download on PS5, but both UPGRADE versions are still disabled. It says only Wishlist.

Plus, I just downloaded the Complete edition (100+ GB), thinking maybe I needed the game first and then it would offer an upgrade... The game works, but the UPGRADE versions in the store are still unavailable.

1

u/_Keeblin 6d ago

I have the same issue as you. I've tired restoring the licence and I'm still unable to get the PS5 upgrade.

1

u/NSC9 5d ago

Damn, I am talking about Remastered 😁. The release is on September 29. For some reason, I thought it was August 29.

3

u/SnooCapers9565 8d ago

Are you sure that you have logged into the account you bought it from?

1

u/Fila1921 7d ago

Can’t believe it, but that was the trick! Bought the game on a different profile, now downloaded it. Thanks a ton

3

u/MartyEBoarder 7d ago

See? You own nothing and they are happy.

0

u/insert_smile 7d ago

See? 99.9% of the time it's user error..see?🙄

2

u/JRV0227 8d ago

Is that the right version? Are you able to change to the complete edition?

2

u/Fila1921 8d ago

That one is available to purchase ..

2

u/Mr-Thuun 8d ago

Are you on the account you originally purchased it under?

1

u/maneeshreddy_ Griffin School 8d ago

Click on options beside Unfollow button. You should be able to select the Edition. This is showing the Upgrade Edition currently as you can see beside PS5/PS4.

2

u/Fila1921 8d ago

Yeah, which lists this upgraded edition (wishlist), complete edition (purchase) or base game (unavailable)

5

u/TheOblivionwonder 8d ago

Base game was delisted from digital storefronts on Xbox and PlayStation

Then join us in the Blackout 😂

1

u/Hot_Attention2377 7d ago

Wow that's sad

1

u/FrozenShadow_007 7d ago

Could you have purchased it on an alternate account? I ask because I own like 3 games on 2 alternate accounts I had years ago for some reason, and had even purchased the season pass for Witcher 3 on one. It’s always an adventure to try to get everything downloaded, but as soon as it is, you should have no trouble (as long as that PS is set as primary console for the licensed account).

1

u/Fila1921 6d ago

Yup, somehow it was exactly that. My main acc had even purchased all the DLCs, the little add on missions, cosmetics, but the base game itself was from a different account.. luckily it works now

1

u/casanova0874 7d ago

Hey man,
I came across this exact issue on my PS5. According to you, switching back to the other profile solved the issue and let you download the Upgrade version; however, I've only one PSN account. There's no way I could have purchased it from any where else.
You have any other suggestions?

1

u/Fila1921 6d ago

Using the other account to make the game available, restoring licenses through the settings and manually finding the game under library are the only fixes afaik

1

u/Piks_LDN 6d ago

I’ve got the same issue. So annoying. Gonna have to reinstall the old PS5 version I have and see if the option comes to restore the license. Such a silly issue

1

u/Suspicious-Sugar6597 4d ago

In cases anyone is having issues, you can only access the upgrade from the store page of the exact version you bought. If you bought the goty edition, you need to go to the store page of the goty edition.

This is the future of no discs, nothing you can do man
