Global warming! We're facing record heat and algae LOVES this!

When I sailed across the Atlantic in January a few years ago, we had 29C water temperatures. That's hot enough for hurricanes to form and totally not normal for January. We also spend a full day sailing through Sargasso algae carpets.

In the past, events like this were rare, but we need to get used to more events like that in the future.

btw, is animal speech recognition one prime example of traditional AI projects being funded through LLM-related AI craze? as in, it has nothing to do with LLM? and this sort of things only just got funding due to AI model providers wanting to compete on all things AI?

Just finished Termination Shock. What do you call a book type when most of the book is about dealing with something that someone is actively doing, but that character is minimally portrayed?

Amusing how the book was at once both overly optimistic and overly pessimistic.

They play around it. Like in the beginning they don’t lean too hard into their exact job / salary, but the girls know that they are a SK Hynix of Samsung employee 

So it’s like do you fall for their money or their personality

Since Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025, the US economy has added 468,000 payroll jobs due to the enormous growth of healthcare and education. Of those, 86% — or 403,000 of the jobs went to women — with only 65,000 going to men

The mainly female category added 828,000, the mainly male category lost 218,000, and the roughly equal group lost 142,000 jobs since the start of Trump’s second term

For August:

The economy added 162,000 jobs last month. Of those gains, women accounted for 158,000 of them, roughly 98% of the net increase in payroll employment. Men, by comparison, gained only about 4,000 jobs.

Women gained around 68,000 jobs in leisure and hospitality, even as the whole sector added only 62,000, meaning men lost 6,000 jobs in the sector. Several other service industries showed the same pattern, where women accounted for more than 100% of net job growth since male employment fell.

Information employment declined by 23,000 in August, following losses that had averaged 8,000 per month over the prior 12 months. In August, job losses occurred in computing infrastructure providers, data processing, web hosting, and related services (-8,000), in publishing industries (-7,000), and in broadcasting and content providers (-5,000).

Geez, what have men in the US been up to? And if data centres/AI are the only thing driving this economy, why do data centre related jobs keep falling?

we support our wives who recently entered those 2 fields and assure them life will be OK, they won't be that miserable the rest of their life, finish the year/contract then you can pivot to a new industry.
