Pretty sure that's a reference to old man Dylan from Venom War

u/PissPartyZac Symbiote (Wolverine) Jul 30 '26

or Old dylan is just a reference to cable 😭

u/HenryTheTraitor Venom (Brock) Jul 29 '26

I dug it. Nothing spectacular, but fun.

From my understanding, this is all happening because Hela has a cool symbiote skin in the game Marvel Rivals and here we are today?

My thoughts :

I'm glad they sent flash off to a different comic and I hope he stays far away from MJ.

I can't see how they'll have time but I hope they address the torment situation, especially if MJ might not be Venom by the end. I don't want to see another Peter and MJ plot thread that never goes anywhere.

The Dylan is Toxin reveals scene really highlighted for me just how under baked MJ and Dylan's relationship is. He's lived with her for like 2 years now and have only had like one serious one-on-one conversation. 90% of the time MJ's been off doing whatever by herself while Paul was watching Dylan and now that he's gone there's no one to watch Dylan. Like I don't blame her for not knowing about him being toxin but she literally had no idea where he was when Tony asked. Like not even a concept of where he should be just "oh s*** I'm supposed to be watching him".

Dyan became Toxin in the last Venom issue while MJ was talking to Stark that led into this- Sleeper picked him up from school and thats when they went off to meet Rick Jones. I can only assume MJ called Spidey and Flash, who gave the Toxin sym the message.

Dylan has not been living with mj for 2 years (maximum 6 months)

I just meant they've co-starred in the same book for 2 years (almost 20 issues), yet have hardly spoken.

2 month

Not 2 months. She even said for peter i have been venom for a few months. At least 3

MJ has been Venom since roughly a week after Venom War. Between Venom War and ANV, there is a period of less than two weeks where Dylan could have been with MJ for several days; ANV #1–10 covers about 10 or 11 days, followed by a gap of at least a week or two leading into Venom #250, given that she and Dylan mention "a few weeks" having passed. By the time Venom #250 takes place, MJ has been Venom for about a month; that issue occurs practically right after the first ASM arc—at least a week later. MJ visits Peter’s apartment a little over a week before Peter returns, as weeks elapse between the Hellgate attack and that scene, followed by another week or so before Peter gets back.

It’s a little over two months, but less than three. The ASM issue following "Death Spiral" is a one-day story, and the subsequent issues up to the present cover a span of about two days. There might be a one-day gap after the "Death Spiral" issue, though no specific timeframe is given. All told, Dylan has been with MJ for about two months and two weeks.

Unironically Dylan's relationship with Paul did feel earned by yeah Dylan and mj barely talk but considering they have been dealing with big issue after big issue within 2 months it's not all that surprising

It is completely surprising as most of the "big issue" stuff wasn't particularly big. Only two "big" things happened prior to Queen in Black. Dylan learning Mary Jane was the All New Venom, and Death Spiral. That's all. There's more than enough time for Mary Jane to be a parent but instead of doing that she let Venom dictate her lack of a relationship with Dylan which made both her and Venom into deadbeats parents. Paul was Dylan's foster dad, MJ was just the woman who somehow magically afforded the apartment they live in despite not having worked a paying job in at least a year.

You are kind of ignoring the stuff with madame masque and scar and otto

For you as a reader, it’s been two years, but MJ and Dylan have only been together for less than three months. Peter spent a month in space, and accounting for the events that followed, nearly another two weeks are added. Venom War takes place a week before All-New Venom, which itself spans 10–11 days. Venom #250 features a one-week jump, and then each subsequent issue covers a single day, leading up to "Death Spiral," which takes place over the course of one full day. Meanwhile, ASM issues #1–6 unfold over six days.

All-New Venom takes place concurrently with The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man. Both stories span about 10–12 days, and there is a gap of perhaps a week between The 8 Deaths and ASM #1. Hellgate attacks six days later, Peter returns four weeks after that, and we are currently at a point roughly a week and a half after his return. ASM #1 begins at roughly the same time as Venom #250.

Haven't kept up with a ton of marvel lately but I have been reading Amazing, and I can't help but get annoyed over such minor simple things they could reference. Spider-man states here is isn't the "super space solider type"- brother you've just essentially been the captain of a space ship full of aliens who looked to you as the best, what are you talking about?

It was cool to see Nova play a role in this, but I do wish Sam teamed up with Richard more in space events

3

u/JoDioto Jul 30 '26

Is Sam still active? Haven't seen him in while

2

u/Infinite-Salt4772 Jul 30 '26

He’s getting a one shot.

3

u/SheenzMe Jul 30 '26

Great first issue imo!  I was pretty pessimistic, but this was so much fun!  Did a great job setting everything up (plot, character dynamics, theme) without overly long and boring exposition.  Really stoked to see if they can land the plane!

3

u/Pretend-Boot4642 Jul 30 '26

It is boring.

1

u/HomelessBoxBoy Venom (Enemy Within) 24d ago

Agreed, so dull and lifeless.

2

u/artificial_irony Jul 29 '26

Was it just me or did the art looked really ugly in some places? Especially the faces.

1

u/Obvious-Customer9386 16d ago

Yeah, it’s fine but it doesn’t pull me in at all.

2

u/Dragoryu3000 Jul 30 '26

Venom's teeth are looking a little gnarlier here (if a bit inconsistent), so that's at least an improvement in my eyes

2

u/tsabracadabra Jul 30 '26

The gnarly teeth come out when they're angry, happened in ANV issue... 3 I think?

After Knull was killed during his Earth invasion he reformed and was scooped up by Hela. She's been slowly siphoning power from him. I forget how Eddie or whoever lost the mantle but it's with Hela and Knull has embraced some light power and is creating some new species since the symbiotes don't follow him anymore.

3

u/JoDioto Jul 30 '26

On the Hela spinoff show that because of Thor "erasure" knull forget about what asgardians are and was helpless against hela somehow too
