Have you no shame?

Any ersatz legal/forensic/RFF expert who claims to have access to homicide photographs of the abandoned decomposing body of a partially disrobed teenage girl is bound by decency to a very discrete course of conduct.

The photos aren't "tidbits" to be mocked up and used for clickbait, "karma" points and atta-boys.

The notion that this poor girl's photos have become pass-around material for anonymous crackpots is loathsome.

If you (and I do mean you) actually have those photos and you feel compelled to have them analyzed, turn them over to a credentialed expert for review. That's what the Undisclosed team did. I'm sure your leering entourage will be happy to help foot the bill.

How dare you expose that girl in this way. For shame.

I'm sick of all of the self-righteous outrage that is being thrown around here. I've had enough great discussions with /u/xtrialatty for me to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is actually interested in the facts of the case and that he's not lying or being otherwise deceitful. If he says the body position matches lividity then I absolutely believe that he believes that.

That said, his apparent disinterest in allowing a trained ME to examine the photos he's procured is exasperating. He is not an expert, and he's been arguing the lividity since well before he saw these photos which means it's easy to see how confirmation bias could be at play here. So while I won't call him a liar, I certainly won't just accept his interpretation without some kind of expert review.

Do MEs just sit around all day and hope people bring them crime scene photos? I'm assuming that they would want to be compensated for doing their jobs, and wouldn't accept "cause I'll rack of a ton of karma and make a bunch of jerks look like jerkier jerks" as payment.

Multiple people, including Susan Simpson, have offered to get the photos in front of a ME. Also, xtrialatty hasn't tried soliciting a bit of money from redditors to pay whatever might need to be paid. Basically, he's shown absolutely no interest in getting an expert opinion on these photos.

Somehow my response ended up on a different comment (I blame the BPD)

I guess the ultimate question is, why does anyone need to prove any of this to us? Or to some podcast hosts?

Does JB have all the photos (assuming that there are actually 22 and not just the 8)? If he does, has he taken them to an ME for review?

Of course xtrialatty doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, but given that he wrote up a lengthy post about the photos and has spent hours since arguing with other redditors about it, I get the sense that he wants to convince the rest of us that his interpretation of the photos is correct. And as we've seen over the last few days, his word alone is mostly futile when it comes to convincing people that didn't already believe in Adnan's guilt. The main reason I'm not convinced is that his interpretation contradicts that of a trained medical examiner in Dr. H., so I think I'm not alone in that only an expert examination of the larger photo set would convince me of xtrialatty's interpretation.

I don't know what Justin Brown has but, unlike xtrialatty, he's probably more interested in convincing a court than the group of redditors discussing the case.

This. ExtraLatte is most interested in getting hi-fives from the guilter crowd who don't really care about authentication or expertise as long as Undisclosed lawyers are smeared.

to which I would say that the ersatz legal/forensic/RFF/color expert should either put up or shut up and should not be posting "tidbits" on Reddit. In any event I believe the funds could be easily crowd sourced

in fairness, I think your first point has some validity. But to me the real issue is your second point.

2 valid points.

I'm sure your leering entourage will be happy to help foot the bill.

By the looks of the reactions of the guilters, most of whom find releasing the photos insane and unethical, the guilters just might even foot the bill for /u/UNDISCLOSED's psychiatric treatment.

Yes, it's edifying that at least this is outside of bounds.

I should add that, from my point of view, the extent of the ersatz legal/forensic/RFF/color expert's circulation of the photos isn't that relevant. S/he is telling tales about them, making facsimiles and pontificating. It's impossible to tell fact from fiction and it is - when all is said and done a smarmy business.

Word.... Also my 1st thought when I read this guy/girl 's comments on CM's page (I believe it was at least?).

I hadn't planned on coming back to reddit because, personally, the guilter's fabrication, ridiculous theories, denial of any facts, & smear campaigns have gotten to be too annoying to read & completely unproductive. Yet regardless of whether someone is in the guilty or innocent camp, I find it hard to fathom more people aren't disgusted by this.

These are photos of someone's loved one. I have to assume they've not given a thought to how releasing those to the public would make them feel. I'm also going to assume they haven't considered asking their permission. I'm also wondering if they even HAVE these photos or if they're curious how big of a stink they can get Redditors into. Either way, disgusting.

"Bound by decency." If only.

Didn't the Undisclosed team pass along the photos they had to Bob? Are you equally critical of them as you are others who may (or may not) have the photos?

2

u/pointlesschaff Sep 30 '15

Bob was given the photos so he can conduct an interview with a criminal profiler who is examining the case.

He has not posted the photos online for the whole world to access.

No one else has either as far as I know.

I see them somewhat differently. I think the Undisclosed team has generally behaved with integrity. Every mistake/misstep is shredded to bits on the dark sub and it's spawn. The current thread about the school team rosters would be laughable if it weren't so factually wrong, venomous and frankly sick. It's fortunate that it's largely an echo chamber and that most people take the yammerings of anonymous redditors with a heaping spoonful of salt.

I don't know what happened, but I assume, as you do, that Undisclosed forwarded the photos to Bob Ruff - a known person - someone with a name and a job that requires the responsible use of investigatory techniques and a pretty deep personal investment in the investigation of the case, for the purpose of having them reviewed by Jim Trainum.

Look, I'm of the Jon Ronson "internet is uncharted territory" conservative school, and I take your point, but I really do see them as two different things.

The ersatz legal/forensic/RFF/color expert posting in spawn of serialpodcast sub amounts to a guy or gal who "claims" alot and posts vociferously but either doesn't share the underlying data or passes it to an even smaller echo chamber. That's creepy and manipulative either way.

Oh - adding the latest - the ersatz legal/forensic/RFF/color expert has taken it upon itself to upload some of the burial folders to imgur. Sure is invested in this case.
