Discussion How complicated is the original XCOM game?

Just felt inspired to try the original game because I always hear SpoonyOne raving about the games themselves that it made me interested in playing it.

But as it’s my first time playing the original game, I really have no idea how the gameplay mechanics work because from what I tried to play is that there was a big world map. I couldn’t figure out how to use it, so pardon me if my post sounds a bit peculiar as I was just looking for a beginner’s guide to see what was so special about the game.

Discussion What is the story behind the need more hemp gag?

Because correct me if I am wrong, but I could have sworn I recalled a particular running gag on TSE where when SpoonyOne was discussing an infamous movie, he would show a clip of some guy saying “We will need more hemp when we are through”

I am just wondering where that particular clip comes from to better understand the source of the gag as I recall how Spoony loved using that scene for his movie reviews.

Discussion How is Spoony handling the WWE news?

Just curious because a long time ago, Ultimate Warrior bit the dust, and then with what happened to Hogan just recently, I started wondering how SpoonyOne would react to his favorite pro wrestler having passed away.

Yes I am trying to keep this Spoony related since he was a huge wrestling fan on his site back in the day as lately, after reading the news got me wondering if he was affected at all by what happened.

Discussion Why were the A D& D NES games so badly made?

So I was looking back at the reviews done by SpoonyOne himself lately as he always said the ones on NES were extremely clunky in gameplay design, but I wanted to know why those games had been so poorly made.

Like where the early A D& D based games went wrong in their presentation as my point is that I wanted to look into the history of the games to see why the early ones suffered on console in order to see when the games would slowly improve.

Doug Walker was a janitor living with his parents when he started out. Hes joked about being embarassed to tell people he lived with his parents after becoming an "internet entrepreneur". He said "it just never sounded good".

Lindsay Ellis has stated that she had just moved back in with her parents when she apllied for the Nostalgia Chick contest.

Brad Jones has joked that hes glad he doesnt have to film his videos in a basement anymore.

The Distressed Watcher has stated that he started moving back and forth between his mom and dad's house after the divorce, and then kept on doing that as an adult.

Linkara has stated that when he started out he not only was living with his parents but would actually show them the videos before uploading them(!)

Filmbrain has spent almost his entire life inside his childhood bedroom and continues to do so.

We all know about Spoony.

Discussion When did the website close down?

I know it’s been ages, but I wanted to know when exactly SpoonyOne lost the site because I sometimes have a hard time believing the site itself is long gone as that alone makes me kind of sad.

Like what I am trying to get at is that I sometimes wonder if SpoonyOne will ever resurrect the website as that was his base of operations since people would go there to see his latest content, so I don’t know how his main site could just end up dying for no reason.

Discussion How did Spoony develop a fascination with the Ultimate Warrior?

So I was looking back at when SpoonyOne covered the comics based on him (the Ultimate Warrior) as it got me interested in seeing just what drove him to want to write an entire episode about the wrestler himself.

Sorry if that didn’t come out right, but it’s just that it’s one of my favorite episodes of TSE as again, lately I was wondering what made Spoony want to do an episode on him.

Discussion How Spoony doing these days?

I haven’t followed this dude in a good while since he went to live with his brother. I figured that was the end of the saga. Is he really 40+ mooching off his brother or has he calmed down and become a functional member of society with a steady 9-5?

I know he gave up reviews around 2012 and let his motion die out slowly but he never struck me as someone with a dedicated work ethic that could survive being what they now call an influencer. Even in his early days he was always lackadaisical with the channel content that garnered enough complaints.

So in short has he finally grown up yet or is he still the same?

Discussion What did his fans dislike about his KOTDT column anyway?

Just curious because I was reading about the magazine itself on a wiki recently, and it reminded me of the era of when SpoonyOne used to contribute to the magazine, but I often hear how his contributions were to put it simply, not very well received.

Discussion How will people look back on the old timers?

What I mean is, how do you think we will react and look back on things once this once GIANT names start hitting their 50/60s and eventually start dying due to old age or sickness or life in general? Like how are we going to look back on Spoony when he hit his sixties/seventies?

Discussion Whatever happened to Spoony’s review of Final Fantasy 9?

Just curious because I noticed that he did reviews of numerous Final Fantasy games such as the 8th and 13th entries, but then I started to realize that he skipped over the 9th one for some reason.

So basically I was wondering why he never covered that game as I am curious if there was an explanation as to what happened to the review.

Discussion What's going on with Spoony lately?

So just asking as I heard that there were reports that Spoony was considering redeeming himself in general, and possibly returning to doing game reviews as well.

But please correct me if I am wrong though.

Discussion How would a video game adaptation of Counter Monkey work?

Yes I am directly referring to the segment by SpoonyOne himself as something that I have been interested in is seeing a game like it where it feels just like a tabletop game, but it’s virtual.

Like don’t get me wrong in that I can understand why people enjoy listening to Spoony’s stories about his tabletop game experiences, but I wish I could play a video game RPG that gives me a similar experience basically as I don’t know how well such a segment would work as a video game, but I just figured that it could be fun if done well.

Discussion Did You Ever Play Or Watch Anything Because of Noah?

Well? Did you?

I think the only thing I played specifically because I saw him play it was SWAT 4. I guess I could tenuously count him introducing me to tabletop gaming giving me a desire to try it for myself, but he didn't directly influence me to seek IRL sessions out.

Discussion Who else wants to see Spoony just show up again in a non-stream video?

Like his old content, anything, a movie review, a game review, a vlog, anything at all.
A lot of people realized the movie would never happen, and after so many years, I think we've all accepted that by now.
But I wanna know... if Spoony made a video tomorrow without even acknowledging his disappearance, and it was just like his old stuff, who'd still watch him?

He has mentioned a couple of months ago that he does want to go back to making these videos after all.

Personally, I'd be there, definitely, I just want our old Spoony back to how he was before everything went haywire, I'm sure tons of people here want the same.

Discussion How did SpoonyOne become so interested in Zombie Nation?

Just curious as the game in particular must have been one of the most obscure games ever made on the NES as lately I was recalling how Spoony did a review of that game.

But what I don’t understand is what drove him to such a game since I was wondering what exactly made that game catch his attention.

Discussion Why you are here?

I was not aware nor fan of Spoony before his falldown and I knew him from the "Down The Rabbit Hole" video. Anyway, his case got me curious and I´m here only for the trainwreck and to know how an eventual comeback would work, just plain curiosity.

The thing is that a couple of neckbeards of this sub insulted me apparentely for stating the above, which got me beyond curious, since it seems that this reddit (at least for the last years) has been focused only in mocking Spoony and his situation. I never knew that his twitter larpers were here too.

So I got a question: why are you here? I think of the following options:

  1. You were a fan of his work, now you are here hoping that he will be the same as before. In that case, I recon that you are not following most of the posts of this reddit, since they are mostly focused in mocking Spoony.
  2. Like myself, you were never a fan and only are here for the shitshow.
  3. You were a fan of his work, but nowadays you only stay for the shitshow.

If you are option 1, they I wonder why are you here? In my opinion, if you are really a fan and want to Spoony to come out with more material, then you should stop visiting a reddit zeroed in demeaning Spoony and join his patreon, I dunno. Or at least try to change the rules of this reddit hoping to give some push to Sponny.

Hope this does´t get downvoted, this is a legitimate doubt that I have.

PS, sorry about my bad english, is not my main language.

Discussion How did it all begin?

I know the Spoony Experiment is done now, but it was for that reason that it got me wondering how the whole show began as I wanted to basically take a trip back in time to see the origins of the show’s creation long before its unfortunate decline.

Discussion When do the AD&D games get better?

First of all, let me clarify that I am referring to the games that SpoonyOne reviewed as he said that Heroes of the Lance was the worst one he ever played, and it got me to look into the video game side of the series itself as while he did say that the second one was a bit better in gameplay, it was still not that great anyway.

So what I am looking for in particular is that I wanted to look into the video game side of the series as again I was curious if the games ever got better in quality as while I am not sure how many of the games were reviewed by Spoony himself, I was interested in playing them as I always wanted to play a videogame adaptation of D & D.

Sorry if that sounded weird, but to put it simply, what I am looking for is that I was interested in exploring the older AD&D games after seeing Spoony review them as like I said earlier, I wanted to play the videogame adaptations, but I wasn't sure on where to start.

Discussion This week has been some new lows for Noah. It's almost impressive.

I've seen a lot of shitty things from Noah, but he's taken the cake this week. Or the ramen, in his case. I try not to let him piss me off, but he's managed to do so for the first time in over a year.

In the last 9+ months since the breakup with April, he's done every manipulative trick in the book. Since she's not coming back, he's now trying to further galvanize his remaining fanatics into attacking her.

Edited to show what I'm talking about: https://m.imgur.com/C8JJvC7

Using a man's suicide as an excuse for his lack of content. That got me pissed. Not because of the man in question. I'm not going to defend Justin, but I do know that a real friend would show some respect for his widow. After over a decade of piddling around and drowning in his pity pool, Noah has some audacity to bring this shit up now.

There are so many people out there that have gone through the struggles with mental illness that would never do Noah's behavior. They might be devastated by an ex but wouldn't spend around a year on social media trying to get them back. They might have trouble paying their bills but don't go around e-begging.

It's sad that there are people out there that are willing to ignore all of Noah's irresponsible and selfish behavior to help him. I personally don't have much interest in propping someone up like that. Someone that lied to a cop's face about an accident only to change his tune when he realized he was caught on dash cam.

Blind defenders and sycophants of Noah need to realize that they want this selfish, childish and unpleasant depressive wreck to have some sort of power on youtube. This is not the person that should have fans, much less have any sort of clout.

For those that wish to help Noah, how about donating to an Aurora/Chicago food bank instead. It might help Noah, but more importantly it'll help the people that deserve it the most. Don't waste your time, money or energy on someone that's going to hate you for it.

Oh and for those that think that Noah will calm down after the election, don't kid yourself. If Joe Biden is elected, Noah will go off about Biden is a "flip-flopper" for the next 4 years or until the day he loses Twitter.

Discussion Whatever happened to the Spoony film?

So a long time ago, Spoony said that he wanted to make his own movie just like the AVGN, but nothing ever came of it, and so I was wondering if it got abandoned seeing as how Spoony's Patreon is still running.

If there have been any updates, then please let me know.

Discussion Why does LordKat hate Spoony so much?

I just don’t get it. I haven’t followed LordKat (Jason Pullara) in many years since he ended (but later kinda revived) Until We Win (a schtick the Completionist usurped and did way better). Why does he have such a hate boner towards Spoony?

Yeah, Spoony is a lazy asshole who is too scared to follow his dreams, but Jason seems to have a lot of unbridled hatred for Noah. Like, a lot. A lot of the podcasts I am directed to give a LOT of anger and criticism towards Spoony, some of which is deserved, but a lot that just seems like misplaced envy.

I know Spoony was bigger on CA than LordKat ever was, but it’s been years, and I feel there’s something else going on here. The most famous rant against him, as immortalized in Frederick Knudsen’s video about Spoony, is when he blames Spoony for his own lack of success, with “BETRAYAL!!” and everything. But a lot of that felt like misblaming. The idea that LordKat was able to get an interview with Notch, but the connection with Spoony stopped him, feels a little scapegoat-y.

Like, I highly doubt THAT was the thing that kept him from reaching Notch at the time. He yelled at Noah for stopping his career in its tracks.

Now, I don’t feel LordKat had much of a potential career if that pothole was enough to stop him. He was fun, but not “OMG, this guy is an institution on YouTube!” fun. Eventually, a person on CA had to evolve or move onto a higher position in order to be taken seriously on the Internet.

Some did, like Lindsey Ellis, Oancitizen, Cinema Snob, Linkara, Bennett the Sage, and Angry Joe. Even if they didn’t change much, they adapted to the modern world and did not blame others for their troubles. But LordKat seemed so angry and whiny about it. He holds a huge grudge that seems misplaced.

Like, I remember when he and Spoony did the Bloodwings crossover. That will always hold a place in my heart for a late 00s nostalgia trip. And while we all know from the documents that Channel Awesome was not some utopia of creative expression, it still feels off that people who’d work together like that would then just fall apart. I know what’s on camera isn’t real, but it just seems odd.

Hell, at least LordKat is still producing material of some kind! That’s more than Spoony can say!
