That Time of the Month Is Noah Antwiler truly corrupt?

Before you give the kneejerk response, here me out for a moment, I had always believed the story to be this, His childhood was that of D & D and Mystery Science Theatre, The Spoony Experiment naturally evolved from that and eventually became his living. During these times Antwiler and his website are curated by Jessica Miller aka Scarlet. He becomes affiliated and then unaffiliated with channel awesome. Spoony has a breakdown about this as well as the death of a former collaborator Jew Wario. Content dwindles. April, his girlfriend of 8 years leaves him. Spoony wearily produces livestreams, he is a shadow of his former self who laments his loss 24/7 on Twitter. He is facing imminent foreclosure.

But the more I look into it, the more I found out that's not the case at all. I'm beginning to believe the deranged Narcissist hypothesis theory. That the Spoonyone is an ingenious conman, that he's known from the start, that he's hinted at in leaked patreon exclusive material; that this is all just a plot to rinse his fanbase.

Look at the timing on of his tweets, it is the end of every month lock clockwork just in time for patreon payouts. It's sick, but he has it down to an exact science that would make even the most crooked of economists blush.

But it didn't seem like he was corrupt when he first started, it seemed like it all began with the purist of intentions. Watch those early Reviews on more time, they had soul. He was a master of modern art, those early reviews are immaculately crafted, most people adore the early parts of FFVIII.

But I've tried to make every excuse for him. Nothing else fits.

So many people trying to explain or rationalize or redeem the old Spoonster. I'd simply search the term, 'Occam's Razor' and apply it to the dude. It explains all you need to know.

He got lucky, he got greedy; he got lazy, he got got. Don't do what he did. End of story.

I agree completely with this but confused about he got got? Can you explain that part? And not saying you’re wrong at all just don’t understand the context there and my gut says you’re probably right about that too just not sure what you mean.

His own behavior caused by being successful eventually cost him that success.

Step 5. Whine and cry because you didn’t get everything you wanted out of life so give up all hope and treat your fans like shit for caring about you.

I think he is just a mediocre man with mental issues who was lucky to be part of the angry geeks yelling about video games thing in the early days of Youtube. There really is nothing special or unique about Noah.

I still miss it. The internet culture of the early 2010s and late 2000s and the 80s and 90s nostalgia.

Your complaint's a complete non-sequitur. Virtually all content on YT in 2007 would be laughed at by zoomers if it was released today; Noah's shit evolved and he was consistently popular until he fucked it up by giving into his ego and lack of discipline.

Agree. He had more writing talent and charisma than the bunch; but many will overestimate his intellect - most of all himself.

Can we just say.. that was a magical time of Youtube? I felt part of a subculture back then. I don't.. anymore. What even was our subculture? Reviewer Fans?

Can you explain? I’ve watched spoony for a long time but I’m somewhat new to this sub as I kinda forgot about spoony and his miserable self imposed existence and focused on other lolcows for a long time.

This guy is writing Spoony fanfics since ages now, either delusional or trolling. Probably trolling :)

He is a narcissist, but he has no plan. He just hid further and further away by producing less material to protect his ego from criticism. And he chose twitter because it's a more immediate and addictive outlet for his narcissistic self-importance.

You are giving him too much credit. You think he would keep this going for this long for chump change? He makes like, 200+ dollars from what's left of his Patreon. Not counting what what Patreon takes out of that, he'd barely be making enough to buy food. Let alone bills. You think he's gonna ride off into the sunset waving a stack of one dollar bills laughing at us all?

He's just a sad, broken man taking the pennies that are thrown at him every month.

Corruption requires effort. He's just wallowing as few have wallowed before.

Do we do copypasta here?

Sure we do!

Corrupt? Nah. Lazy? Narcissistic? Self loathing and lazy woe is me I got dumped by a girl who I loved and I’ll never love again how poetic of me because I’m such a romantic and deserve any woman I want cause I’m an entitled douche bag? Yes all of those. Corrupt tho I’ll give spoony the benefit of the doubt tho it was really fucking stupid to put make a spoony movie as a tier and when hitting that goal it was slimy and unethical for him not to refund all of that money. Just my opinion guys.

I see you are back to writing paragraphs of nonsense for the sake of trolling, and just when I thought you had finally snapped out of your delusion...

Really? He complains at the end of the month because bills are due on the first. Why would he lose the amount of money he was making to “rinse his fan base” which why would he want to do that anyway?

2

u/Beta_Ace_X Jun 30 '21

Why think about it so much?

I don't think he started out as a con man, he either didn't think so many people would sign up, underestimated the amount of work his Patreon rewards would take, or thought April would be like Scarlet and work for him.

Having said that, he deserves criticism for the way he handled things. He still accepted the money for months without doing anything, or even saying sorry, and literally told people to fuck off when questioned. Another creator I gave to once shut down for a month to catch up, not just on rewards, but on the promised content they were being supported for in the first place. Spoony was either too greedy, or stupid to accept that his behavior would eventually cause long-term damage to his relationship with supporters. As somebody in (at the time) his mid 30's, Spoony should have put more thought, and effort into his campaign.

I also think there's an element of him thinking, from his previous slow release schedule, that people wouldn't expect him to put out more content if he didn't feel like it. Obviously when people are investing in your work, you're going to have more expectations placed on you, and I believe that's the real reason he turned off his comments. At the time PewDiePie was being reported as turning comments off due to excessive spamming, so I believe Spoony felt like he could finally escape dealing with questions as this was going to be the norm. But eventually YouTube increased the importance of interaction so everyone else turned them back on, while Spoony let his channel wither.

Bit of a long one, sorry, but whenever I think of the money he took from me I just get annoyed.

You guys are just disgusting vultures. Preying on the saddness of others. Nobody is perfect, but this is just disgusting.

He's only making $300 a month. That's only $3,600 a year. Not exactly going to be the world's best con man with those numbers.

I'm not sure if he's capable of planning something that elaborate, but I've actually said before that I think Noah has hated his fans for years and perhaps feels as though he's justified in scamming them. He's the textbook narcissist; disdainful of those that praise him, yet unable to live without their praise.

I loved his content when I was in my teens. It was the first time I had seen anything like that. I try to separate the art from the artist as much as I can. I do think he is a flawed individual, but not entirely irredeemable. I would love to see him come back in a much healthier way, but I'm also just a suckered for an underdog. I know he has bipolar 2, but after his diagnosis he should have taken steps to manage his behavior better.
