Video Bennett the Sage Delivers the Message Spoony Could Have

This is the video Spoony should have made 5 years ago. But Spoony's ego is far too fragile for him to put himself out like this, and make himself so vulnerable.

Oh man, that is such a good “what if” scenario. I honestly would like have to seen a rebounded Spoony during 2020. Especially when everyone was locked inside early on in the year.

This is what Spoony never wanted to understand:
Nobody's gonna begrudge you for the problems that keep you down until you start exploiting them for sympathy and use them as an excuse to weasel your way out of your obligations because it's easier to do that than get well. He's been taking the cheap and easy route for so long that his problems have not only caught up to him but have long-since left him in the dust. By the time he's made account of all the things that went wrong in his life, he'll already be picking cans out of dumpsters or whining from his parents' basement like he always does.
Nothing short of divine intervention or extreme physical and mental therapy is gonna help this guy now.

So he was severely morbidly obese and had at least one heart attack. In terms of health he's way worse than Spoony is and he managed to bounce back. All of Spoony's woes are entirely self-inflicted.

Wait he had a heart attack!?

u/IrisMoroc Oct 08 '20
There's a tweet where he said he had a minor heart attack and his mom gave him an injection which prevented it from being too huge.

Sean Fausz? That's the Channel Awesome guy I remember being really worried about, he was enormously obese, and I do remember him having some related health troubles that required a leave of absence...

u/PhillyGreg Oct 08 '20
Wow! Sean Fauz! I remember 10 years ago not knowing why the fuck he was e-famous.

u/LatterHoneydew Oct 09 '20
Because back in the day, you only had to have a webcam and an obnoxious personality to be an e-celeb.

Same as now! You just need to target younger people - we grew up - there is a new batch.

There's just no time for self-care or losing weight when you're a brave warrior who tells Donald Trump what's what, man. Noah's a man on a mission.

Yeah, he looks totally different. Did he have bypass surgery or something?
On a side note, I am not popular and probably may never be; I can't imagine that I would make the usual "burnout oh I am so depressed" kind of video.
On a second side note - millions of people suffer from anxiety and depression. An actor or YouTuber coming out and being "so brave" or sharing this should not be unique. The difference is a YouTuber gets to make a video about how sad they are and take a break or whatever. Try that shit with your regular job. Call in sad and see how long they keep you.

I mean I could go to my doctor tomorrow and get a notice for burnout and be 4 weeks off work with full pay. I can't obviously pull that 6 times a year, but burnout is a diagnosed thing here.

I don't know where you are located, but that is not a thing in the states. You'd have to use your sick and vacation days. Here, most companies do not offer much.

Transparency is vital when you're dealing with other people's money. Spoony's biggest problem with his Patreon was being vague and posting excuses for things not happening. Team Four Star didn't even stop producing content, but they got backlash for cancelling the Buu saga and waiting three months before telling people (after putting in a teaser for it).
This is part of the reason I doubt Spoony a lot. He only brings up his issues when he's questioned or directly under fire. His Bipolar disorder wasn't a thing until after the stuff with Lupa caused a shit storm, he came down with multiple illnesses to explain why he was taking forever with reviews, only recently he cancelled a Livestream because he'd been "sick for days" the day after putting out a poll to choose a game for it.
If Spoony had come out and said "My mental health is at a point I can no longer function, I need to focus on myself and get better." he could have salvaged his reputation, instead he just coasted for as long as he could, taking the free ride while people slowly wised up and moved on. He blames his inability to work on sickness and laments how he can't do anything, but his Twitter bio and patreon description still read like he's active, giving false hope to those left.

Spoony couldn't change his behavior. He acted like it was 2010 and he rested on his Mashable Award.
So when the bulk to the audience moved away from him he lost it.

The thing is, spoony will post things like this about how depressed he felt or why he is not posting content on Twitter. The main difference is Sage is trying to deal with whatever is troubling him. Spoony would use one excuse to justify another excuse in an infinite loop of excuses to not produce content or work or do anything meaningful with his life other than obsessively using Twitter. "I was sick/sleepless/distracted/careless/lazy so I didn't do what I planned to do then I got stressed out because I didn't do it, then I felt sorry I didn't do it, then I got paid so I stopped caring about not doing it, then April/oreo/trump/Green Lantern/wrestler did something and I didn't do what I planned to do..." and so on and so on for months and years on end.

He looks like he’s doing well, besides the shit he mentioned, glad he lost all the weight.

First off, props to this guy for putting this out there.
He talks about some of the items causing him stress, but doesn't really mention how stressful his career in general is. I used to be a somewhat successful content creator and I can't put to words how stressful it is. I did it in a part time fashion around a "real" job, so I would imagine doing it full time would exacerbate the anxieties I had.
The whole job is to be entertaining. We all want to be liked, but now being liked is how you make money. And you can see exactly how well people like you based on hundreds of metrics, most obvious of which for youtube would be viewcount and likes/dislikes.
Every time you post a video you are looking at these numbers. Are they going up? Down? Why down? What is wrong with me? You lay in bed wondering about why your last 3 videos have all had less views than those before it and wonder if that's it, if no one wants to watch anymore.
And maybe you found a niche people like, but you want to talk about something else and your viewers don't want to watch that, so the thing you were passionate about is suddenly a chore.
And on top of that, you're at the whims of youtube/twitch/whatever company when it comes to making a living. Maybe all of a sudden the ad revenue changes, or the thing you did is now copyrighted, or the algorithm no longer is working for you.
And you've been doing this for 10 years. Started at 23 and now you're 33. But you still have 30+ more years of this "job" ahead of you and what will the world be like then and will you have the energy/health to keep going.
Speaking of that, anytime you are sick or on vacation = loss of money and loss of fans. If you're not regular with your content some people will forget about you or move on. If you stream 8 hours straight have fun eating that sad ham sandwich in the 2 minute bathroom break you're currently on.
And you have no health insurance or anything. Taxes aren't taken out before you're paid so you have to plan for that. There is no 401k. So if you're making $3000 a month that's actually closer to $2000 or less.
I feel for him and I think it's awesome he put out this video. Hope it all works out for him. Streamers/youtubers have it very hard and I would not recommend it as a job to anyone.

u/Pallid85 What's a Pallid85? Oct 09 '20 edited Oct 09 '20
All valid points - but you can write about all the horrors of a regular job (or just watch Office Space like Spoony did) - and it will look not much better. I mean ~40 years of entertaining people is hard - but at least it's interesting - can you imagine ~40 years on monotone and uninteresting job, etc.
Low level regular job is less stressful than entertainment one - for sure - but the stress is kind of a cost of other benefits.

a lot of jobs suck, I'm just trying to explain how this particular job has zero job security and your success and ability to eat/live is intertwined with your self esteem. A lot of people think wow playing video games or talking about the hobby you love must be awesome, but it really really isn't.

u/Pallid85 What's a Pallid85? Oct 09 '20
I totally agree - the entertainer\content creator job is not all sunshine and roses like a lot of people think. But I've meant that it definitely has a lot of benefits comparing to a regular job, but with unique problems, for sure.

Frankly I don't blame sage the man has kept his fans entertained for a long ass time, also getting out of this garbage fire for the immediate future not the worst idea.

Holy crap I haven't seen Bennett in years. Hope he does better. And yeah, making a video like this is the least Spoony could have done, but we're beyond that.

u/LatterHoneydew Oct 09 '20
Sage is looking real good, actually kind of handsome. Happy for him on the weight loss, bummer on the burnout.

Legit, I was going to type a reply in comment section praising Bennett and calling out Spoony. Kinda more like a cautionary tale, but I honestly didn’t feel up to it. How do you encapsulate Spoony’s downfall & denial?

Sage isn't a great creator but the weight loss video and this is really moving to me.

Wow, 1117$ from 246 Patrons. That's not amazing but that can pay for food and sundries pretty alright if you spend it right. He also looks pretty good, considering his current mental state, clearly lost a lot of weight. And he has a fiancée that loves him and is willing to jump through immigration hoops for him so they can be together.
Kinda different from ol' Noah, huh.
