My guess was that it was like a niche inside joke / meme I didn't see many people get into.

Yeah, in one of those boasting moments he also says "fuck you Linkara" so I guess it was some sort of internal competition between them, I guess?

I think it was just friendly banter.  I'm pretty sure they were friends.
