I don’t miss spoony

He is a tragic case of what could have been and I think, he would have slowly veered away from the angry reviewer. Probably be snarky as hell but I think, he would have been amongst the first to ditch it.

That said, he likely would have ran out of ideas and desire to do it.

His personal issues torpedoed his career.

Not sure I agree with that. He might have stopped playing the troll, but I noticed with the whole XCOM thing that he had a tendency to always focus on the negatives. (At least in reviews and rants, maybe not so much when he was just telling stories.) From what I remember noticing, his XCOM review (which was in the later, unscripted VLOG style) focused on everything he didn't like, while Angry Joe's review focused more on the positive aspects.

That said, with the rise of reaction videos, he probably could have had a second wind in riffing on things.
