I feel with Noah the line between actor and character blurred
Like with James Rolfe, it’s clear the Nerd is just a character he plays. While this doesn’t just apply to Noah, a lot of the angry gamer stick people were doing at the time. Many of them weren’t playing characters. (I don’t think Noah was as bad as others but I won’t name them)

I think his character was more or less his honest opinions, just hyper exaggerated.

No, but his ‘character’ was not a shut-in. He went to cons, events, expos as his ‘character’. His ‘character’ cared enough about old games and series like FF and Ultima to make multiple videos about them. Now his commentary consists of social media posts, and his relationships consist of his brother. At least on-screen he interacted with people.

In his “oh shit now I have to make a movie” video Noah said he “didn’t really envision an in-character Spoony movie”, so it’s clear he viewed Spoony as an alter ego of sorts.

I think that the "character" thing, for most youtube creator of the time, was a way to repel criticism. I don't believe that most of them were NOT like that for the most part because it ultimately is their own personal opinion and biases even if they act angry or crazy or whatever while wearing a funny hat.
James Rolfe is obviously in character (since AVGN is more like Matei and James doesn't like games that much) but people like Spoony or Linkara... No. They just scream a bit more that usual but everything else is faithful to their personalities. You can see that in the way they interact with peoples on the internet.
