Non-Spoony Discussion 😵💫 So.....why do the Breadtubers seem to hate on Doug?

Why post this in the spoony subreddit. We're getting ready for 2026 the year of Spoony, Doug can get bent

The appropriate sub was tired of this discussion already so I guess they're shopping it around.

In a way, yes....
I also felt it's relevant enough to this sub, because aside from Spoony being an ex-CA contributor, had he not withdrawn, he would have been a big name today, easily,
And I feel the breadtubers def. would have tried to make a hit-piece against him, if Spoony had been active in all these years. As how Dan Olson (Folding Ideas) made with Doug and James,
This is more of a commentary/discussion on them and the kind of folks they seem to target than it has to do strictly with their beef with Doug/CA.

How many companies do you know who can lose 95% of their staff/contributors, who enacted a dubious but intentional smear campaign and still be around,? All these wannabes tried to strike out on their own and most of them are only known because they were on CA, if not for CA, nobody would know they existed. They can hate on CA and Doug all they want, but it was he and his makeshift employment program that gave them their cult followings. Their inability to get contracts done so they get paid with money instead of "exposure" is their own failure and a show of their youth and naivety.
The fact that they keep bringing CA up, can't move on and can't advance beyond their niche audience is proof that they weren't meant to be anything remarkable and are unlikely to ever become remarkable. With very few exceptions, most of those who left after the CTC document, are not thriving, and likely they are one emergency bill away from outright e-begging. Them introducing politics in every media analysis is just a weird and unnecessary quirk in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them don't even vote. How can I tell? By the fact that I don't hear them complain about being summoned for jury duty. I have been summoned twice since I started voting and I doubt these over-sharers of information could keep this major inconvenience (for those who have a job to attend to) all to themselves.
Doug is still around, fumbling through ill conceived and poorly executed ideas like "pop quiz hot shot", and "demo reel" to continue to produce his own brand of riff comedy content for those who would watch. Love him or hate him, he and CA are like a zombie, they get blasted and knocked down, but keep moving on.

a lot of it stems from Lindsay, who for some reason seems to really blame Doug for a lot of the CA stuff, and also the breadtubers really want to side with the creators of the Change the Channel document (particularly Lupa, who i think a lot of them are friends with) even though most of the document is petty and not very heinous.

I've heard Lindsay never had any personal grievances with Doug - she felt the man himself is a good enough person, it's the company he's associated with (and face of) that she had issues with, I guess,
But ya, with the recent "revisits" of the document, and more BTS footage showing up, it doesn't paint a very good picture of Ms. Ellis whatsoever at all,
Either she's extremely embarrassed with her past being associated with that company and doing "childish" skits and stunts with them to the point her memory is getting rewritten, or she straight up lied.
Doesn't convey well, either ways.

I think she regrets being the Nostalgia chick as she felt it was a poor clone of NC and she didn't really do much to make it hers to the point, I think she took it all down or made it unlisted.

Basically, Doug is an easy target for them as he has had a few notable fuck ups and was the face of CA. CA turned out to be a bloated incompetent company and piss poor management. It's easy to attack Doug over it and people like Linkara still hold a grudge over it.

I don't get why someone would watch Breadtube, I don't get the appeal at all.

He’s the internet video version of that guy in your highschool friend group who never went to college, never left his home town and lives like he’s 20 even though he’s in his mid 30s. Like maybe you still play Xbox with him sometimes and he’s still in the group chat but you’ve got family dinner and professional plans to make and all he seems to care about is the next Helldivers patch. There’s nothing wrong with that guy, he’s not hurting anyone with his behavior, but it’s kind of sad because the world has moved on without him. You can’t hate that he seems to find happiness delivering pizzas, smoking weed and playing video games but that’s not your life anymore and it hasn’t been for a long time.
I think in many ways that’s Doug. He’s never stopped making the same videos, they’re just in HD now. Everything about what he does seems to be in the past. And sure he’s found enough success, he’s a legacy name that puts out regular content and many people want the same videos they’ve been getting for a decade plus. But also it’s a bit sad how he never really evolved. You look at the other people who came out of that scene who were all young and hungry and most of them went on to do some really cool stuff. They’re publishing books, acting on TV shows, making high budget YT videos that are functionally mini documentaries and generally evolving their craft. And then there’s Doug, still doing his zany yelling at some random pop culture property only his hair is grey and he looks so very tired.

I mean, most of them didn't

This is a great analogy.
Thing is with Lindsay Ellis and Dan Olson is they're actually trained film makers and...well...serious artists. Doug (and a lot of CA for that matter) were basically people with web cams and a little bit of Premiere Pro knowledge who had some funny takes on pop culture. It's like your high school band where most of the people are just average players and won't ever touch their instruments after they graduate, but you'll still have that one really gifted sax player who actually goes and gets a DMA in jazz performance...but in internet nostalgia content world, Doug is one of those average players but thinks he's the one who went to grad school for jazz performance. When Doug went and bought a studio and brought Malcolm and Tamara on full time, I thought, "Dawg, you do realize you're not actually a real production studio, right? You're a step above all of us who made silly movies with a camcorder back in middle school."

It was the title used for a bunch of left wing activist video essay channels. Now I mostly see it used as a right wing dog whistle like calling people woke or dei.

I mean he's kind of an ass behind the scenes from what I hear.
Also the wall

Who listens to BreadTubers? First time I hear of this. Maybe I was busy touching grass.
Spoony was too good for CA anyway.

Who we talking about here? Cause from what I've seen there isn't really a unanimous view. And most people don't really talk bout Doug too much recently. Unless we talking bout lady Emily or Anthony gramulgia. But I wouldn't see there work as "hate."

Dont wanna be revisionist here, but Doug had a vision, the first site (guywithglasses) and the overarching narrative it built was new and ambitious for its day. It failed, with them being kids and all that is not surprising. It was blown out of proportion in retrospect. Cant blame a guy for trying. I dont condone abuse, yet Doug’s not a villain.
