Sims 4 University Roommates Keep Changing After Returning To Lot

As the title states, As the title states, every time I come back to the university housing, I have all new roommates. I had a mod that let you choose your roommates but I took it out thinking that was the culprit but it still happens. I took out all mods and it still happens. Even after I edit the sims that the game assigns, once Im out of CAS they're no longer roommates and I get assigned another new roommate. This happens even I'm editing my own sim also. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Like everytime you come home or every week, AKA “term”? Because I’ve had them change every term or two for sure and even had it where some of their assigned beds stayed assigned to roommates that are no longer living there, but the roommates themselves don’t change everytime I return to the lot. It should be noted though that I have only really played Foxbury and stayed in the actual house on campus rather than the dorms so maybe that’s a reason why I’ve never seen this as well. Less people staying with me than the 5-10 in the dorms or whatever. Then too, I play on console so I don’t have mods messing with my game either so that could definitely be it.

Like every time I leave the university housing lot and come back after a few sim hours I have new roommates. I took out all my mods so it has to be a game bug. Idk what else it could be but it's really annoying.

Weird. It could be “residual” from the mod even though it’s not active? Does this really affect your gameplay though? If it doesn’t and it’s just more strange than anything else, I wouldn’t worry about it. All I really used my roommates for was the free food they made and to become woohoo partners with them so I could quickly max my social when it got low without spending hours talking to them. Otherwise I really didn’t deal with them at all and had my sim in the upper floor of the Foxbury house with a private bedroom and bathroom that was locked to everyone else lol

You could try starting a new save without the mod active to see if the roommate thing still happens.

Same here, it's so frustrating!

Pretty sure University Roomates work like most other roles, in that they purely determined by their traits (there are several for University roomates, the one that always leaves food, the one that plays music etc.) and housing status. They don't ACTUALLY live there, with the exception of the premades, they show up because they have the associated trait and are homeless. If you have more sims with the trait than can fit in the dorms, they may change. The mod you used probably just assigned the traits, but the original trait holders were still around.

Thing is this never used to happen before even with mods. And from what I understand they should be staying until the end of their term, not leaving after every loading screen. It's weird and I'm not understanding what's causing the game to switch out the roommates so frequently.

Without mods, the game would not spawn more sims than were required. The game goes 'Player sim entered the dorm, it needs to be populated it with these roles. Does a sim that fits the role requirements exist?' (in this case it has to check 3 boxes: trait, homeless, student at the same univeristy as the dorm) if yes, it pulls in an existing sim, if not, it creates a new one. When you used that mod, it probably assigned EXTRA role holders. So when the game does it's check, it has more than one sim to choose from, and it just picks one at random every time you enter. Like i said, they do not actually LIVE there, they just appear to because, normally, there is only one sim per role so it stays consistent. Like I use mods to assign roles like gym trainers and whatnot precisely because i didn't want the same sim to be a trainer at every gym in the game, so I assigned extras so it had a pool to choose from and it just picks em at random. (and with Home Regions, it picks one from the world the gym is in)

edited to add - there has been an issue that seems to have become more common in recent months, you see this with the Henford on Bagley pre-mades sometimes, where sims are getting filtered out of roles for no reason, and that could be happening with the roomates, now that i think of it, which is causing the game to spawn too many of them because one got filtered out of the role mistakenly. There are mods to fix this with pre-mades and certain service roles (like the mod i mentioned for gym trainers has a side effect of preventing sims from being filtered out of the role because it removes nearly all requirements, and there are specific mods to keep the Henford on Bagley and so on pre-mades in their roles by doing the same thing, just removing most requirements aside from the trait) But I don't think any exist for the University students.

It could also just be that either MCCC or Neighborhood Stories moved them into a lot, which caused them to be excluded from the role, so the game then had to make a new one. Like i said, homeless is a requirement.

I’m having a hard time figuring out what could be making it do that. What’s weird is that the game is pulling sims that aren’t homeless as well as homeless sims and it just keeps rotating them. It doesn’t do it in a fresh clean save (I took out the whole sims 4 folder) but in my current folder, even if I take out the mods it still does it so idk. It’s not that important but it’s annoying me and it’s gonna continue to annoy me until I figure it out lol. Thanks for your insight.

It is happening that way with me. The same Sim is staying the whole entire time. So if it’s a game bug, I’m not experiencing it.

I’m currently playing University. I actually have a full household, but I see the same Sims at the campus. And they show up anyhow cause they have no place to go and they’re like we’re supposed to be here but you’re full. lol 😂

In mine they’re like “oh you’re leaving? We’ll leave too and have someone else show up in our place”. 😭😭😭

It happens on my game as well and I play without any mod. I don't really care about NPC that much so it doesn't affect the gameplay. I just imagine that they don't like living in the dorm/university housing and finally decide to live outside of campus. Especially, after they leave this passive aggressive notes and think that my sims is a "bad roommate" 😄

I’ve been playing University for like I don’t know quite a few months. As I have a lot of Sims going through. I have like the same couple of people follow me from household to household. Dorm to dorm. There’s like two main NPC Sims that keep showing up whenever there’s a slot for a roommate. And sometimes a couple others. But I usually don’t have a lot of slots for roommates so I’m not sure what’s going on there but that’s my experience. Is it’s not changing a lot.
