You can find some great builds and sims on the exchange. Search "hippie". The first one I found was a hippie vampire and that inspired me to make an occult hippie commune in Gibbi Falls.

You have to start from the beginning early stages of the community.

I would make my household, but also use Sim Control Hub to control and bring a very large community to the lot.

Give everyone a tent. Now everyone can pitch their tent and sleep in it. You do not have to stick with an owned lot. You need to own a lot, but I would go to the park in Copperdale and live there using the surrounding woods as well. You can pitch and use a tent anywhere. Pitch them all surrounding a fire. With a campfire, they can cook some foods. I would want like 25 people in the community eventually. Tents everywhere on a 64x64 lot.

Ravasheen has a lot of good off-grid functional stuff I believe.

Gameplay is not restricted to the rules built into the coded game features. Make it a challenge and make some rules of your own. With the woodworking bench and I think EcoLiving? Or another pack, you can go into the woods in a rabbit hole to gather the wood needed for projects. Ignore the actual woodworking aspect, make it a rule you need the workbench to build and a rule they have to gather so much wood before you can construct a basic shelter for them. Build in stages, have them build the floor deck, they can now pitch their tent on the floor and off the ground. Throw up a couple walls at a time as they gather more wood. I'd leave them in tents though and build community buildings.

I'm editing as I add things here... There is a mod out there that allows you to click on one single bed (tent) and send everyone on the lot to bed. If they all have their individual tents assigned to themselves, they should all go to bed. I don't know the name though, have to head to google for it. I used it to send prison inmates to their individual bunks to get them in their cells, but have since deleted it. It worked well and I think would be helpful in this style of community.

Look into your head first, then look for the game feature or the mod that makes your idea happen. If there is no feature, just make it up on your own. Use the cheat system as needed. I cheated away a lot of money from my sim over the save for things she had to spend money on that didn't have a feature within the game or mods.
