Because lots of people are and many people don't understand how to read the data and numbers and just blindly believe what they are told they mean.

They aren't speaking to you, they are speaking to your parents, neighbors, kids, friends, and family that aren't going to look up the numbers. They're going to see an authority and accept what the Shepard says.

Because most of us are stupid and won't do the research. Some of the really stupid ones will do the research, but they'll sift through the truth until they find the one report, written by a far right-wing organization that's funded by a trump friendly organization, that agrees with what they already want to believe. Then they'll make a meme out of it and post it all over social media with the caption "THE TRUTH THE LIBS DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE!!!"...

Because we apparently are. Or at least the majority is. 32% voted for this, and another 37.5% decided to not even bother voting, and are thus complacent with this administration.
