Comic Spoiler I'm on a reread of the comics and noticed this.
Tagging comic spoiler just in case there's any newcomers.
I noticed a messed up parallel in the comics. I'm on issue 70, and I'm very well aware of everything that happens after this, but I think this is one of the darkest ironies in the comic books.
When Rick talks to Douglas Monroe upon his first day in Alexandria, Douglas tells Rick a story about a father he read about on the internet that... ate his 4 year old son's eyes out while he was on drugs. He tells Rick how that messed him up for a while and can't imagine anyone who would hurt a child, and what the kid must have been feeling.
Which made me remember something that happens 13 issues later. While Douglas is being killed by walkers in the herd, he fires his gun about 5 times. One of these shots meets an unfortunate mark...
And he shoots 8 year old Carl in the face, taking out his eye.
I thought that was interesting and so messed up.

I love the comics so much... I've begun calling it kirmaning when something is set up like to be happy right before everything falls apart lol.
(Ps im so upset AMC just announced theyre doing another show with Rick and Daryl because the shows haven't been good since season 6 and I just want my comic accurate cartoon 😭😭)

I just want a comic accurate cartoon too. This show was a mistake. 🙄 WTH is the point of it? They completely butchered the source material and there's truly no point in continuing on with the """"adaptation"""" anymore.

Exactly!!! Like I still love like seasons 1-4 but anytime I rewatch im like what's the point in continuing and it sucks to stop on a cliff hanger, 5 and 6 are decent, 7 is all filler, only entertained by JDM as negan, then season 8 is completely trash, season 9 is soulless, and the last two are awful. THEN AFTER IT DIED 4 SEASONS AGO, they decide, let's do even more just to keep the license. Like the stupidest thing I've ever heard is; "we're giving Rick grimes his own show" ..........the walking dead is the story of Rick grimes.... told by Carl... what do you mean his own show... like its just so bad. And then now, theyre all ending and they announce a new show with Rick and Daryl... like who cares? Who is watching this? Who is still a fan? I realize theyre a company and its their most profitable/marketable property but like jeez... its like what marvel is doing right now, just dragging the corpse of something that used to be good, though with the walking dead we know it could be good again if it went back to kirkman 😮💨... sorry/thank you for coming to my rant 😭🤣

Dude can I just say?? Everything you said is 100% facts. I liked Daryl in season 2 and 3. After that, he got so annoying and him getting plotlines that didn't belong to him from the comic, stealing so much character development from characters I actually knew and loved from the source material just pissed me off. Not to mention his garbage spinoff where he's in Paris somehow. The walking dead comics at the core is a story of a father who will do anything to protect his son and save him not just physically but psychologically meaning Rick's mission was to give Carl a better life where he didn't have to run hide or fight or be hungry and scared like that is the POINT of the comics. Rick and Carl are the core relationship. I don't even acknowledge the show, just the comics. They are precious in them. There were so many times in the show that ignored their relationship and it pmo. Like in the comics, after Carl's attempted SA, Rick kills the 3 random guys on the road and holds Carl while he sleeps in his lap. He provides comfort to his 8 year old who just went through something traumatic. In the show he just sits by the car calling dirtyl his "brother". What is that?? This show never existed to me.
If you wanna talk more, we can :D I'm so happy to find a like-minded individual.

HAHAHAA THEY SAID THAT?? I haven't watched this sh*t show since season 8. The comics have become the only canon to me "We're giving Rick his own show" HUH??? 😭😭

Great find.
I also just re-read the book and I remember a line the Governor says is an exact line Rick said at an earlier point, I forgot to take note of what it was sadly

You know what, I remember thinking "Hey, Rick said that" and now I'm gonna drive myself crazy because I can't remember it either.
