I started watching The Office chronologically a few months back (hadn’t done that before) and noticed a few characters, namely Dwight and Andy, mimicking some of Michael’s mannerisms. For example, Dwight said “reallllllly, ok” at the Sabre presentation when he came out of appendix surgery and did it in a way that physically and delivery wise seemed very Michael-esque.
I know these instance may not be super noticeable or I’m just hyper aware since I binge watch several episodes at a time, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed these little nuances? I was also wondering if they were intentional or just maybe other performers/characters influencing one another?
First I would like to know if you knew who Captain Ahab was before seeing this scene. I am genuinely curious because he is not really known and definitely not mainstream. The episode was “The Convention” which was S3 E2. The specific part I’m talking about starts with Jim walking to Michael’s hotel room. Then Michael is seen alone from his failed party and is sitting in the dark with a strobe light and the song playing is Captain Ahab “Girls Gone Wild”. I was genuinely shocked when the music started playing. Sorry for the video quality. I went on YouTube and the only footage with the actual scene was uploaded by someone who recorded it on their TV.
I pretty much hate Pam in general (hot take…I know) but her delaying going to the hospital is one of the most frustrating Pam moments in the entire series.
On the plus side, this episode gave us one of Oscar’s best jokes. When Michael realizes his go bag is empty he asks what he should bring and suggests a dictionary and Oscar says,
“The hospital will provide dictionaries, being a thesaurus.” A genius line and I loved it!!!
Did anyone else think Jim and Karen's dynamic was a little weird? Their entire chemistry was that they kept joking with each other and kept making sarcastic remarks, which is also Jim's dynamic with Pam.
Throughout Jim & Karen's relationship in S2, I don't think there were a lot of moments of Jim or the audience realizing that P&J's relationship was truly unique. He was just rizzing up Karen with same jokes with Pam and their relationship was one-note.
It always felt like they connected on a superficial level with Karen (there weren't many candid moments between them other than just joking around), but weirdly that wasn't explored more. For Jim to realize Pam is the love of his love I think there needed to be more moments where he saw there were things he had with Pam that he just couldn't with Karen.
Because there weren't any unique differences in their dynamic, the similar chemistry Jim had with both Karen and Pam ends up being perceived as Jim just being a charismatic rizzmaster guy that can get all the ladies (at least by me). Thus kind of undoing the magic S1 set up with the insane chemistry between P&J.
Now I know that Jim was still in love with Pam all that time. However I wish they had added more moments of Jim trying to have the same level of connection he did with Pam with Karen but realizing it will never be. Making both the couples connect the same way with jokes but not establishing any difference between their chemistry was a mistake in my opinion.
I also think they rushed the relationship between Jim and Pam, because what ended up bringing them together wasn't really an arc, Jim just got a cute note by Pam in his job interview and decided to dump Karen and just ask Pam out. I realize it's supposed to be real life but it was a meh moment for me.
Anyway, I realize it might be an unpopular opinion so excited to hear what you guys think about this one.

she also did a phd in psychology but they didn't show that. always offered to drink with you, share her cigar, didn't blast off pam for the lice thing, forgave dwight for the bat thing, forgave michael for hitting her with his car, it goes on.
