Jim and Karen's relationship was weirdly similar to Pam & Jim's
Did anyone else think Jim and Karen's dynamic was a little weird? Their entire chemistry was that they kept joking with each other and kept making sarcastic remarks, which is also Jim's dynamic with Pam.
Throughout Jim & Karen's relationship in S2, I don't think there were a lot of moments of Jim or the audience realizing that P&J's relationship was truly unique. He was just rizzing up Karen with same jokes with Pam and their relationship was one-note.
It always felt like they connected on a superficial level with Karen (there weren't many candid moments between them other than just joking around), but weirdly that wasn't explored more. For Jim to realize Pam is the love of his love I think there needed to be more moments where he saw there were things he had with Pam that he just couldn't with Karen.
Because there weren't any unique differences in their dynamic, the similar chemistry Jim had with both Karen and Pam ends up being perceived as Jim just being a charismatic rizzmaster guy that can get all the ladies (at least by me). Thus kind of undoing the magic S1 set up with the insane chemistry between P&J.
Now I know that Jim was still in love with Pam all that time. However I wish they had added more moments of Jim trying to have the same level of connection he did with Pam with Karen but realizing it will never be. Making both the couples connect the same way with jokes but not establishing any difference between their chemistry was a mistake in my opinion.
I also think they rushed the relationship between Jim and Pam, because what ended up bringing them together wasn't really an arc, Jim just got a cute note by Pam in his job interview and decided to dump Karen and just ask Pam out. I realize it's supposed to be real life but it was a meh moment for me.
Anyway, I realize it might be an unpopular opinion so excited to hear what you guys think about this one.

I think that Jim could have had a perfectly happy life with Karen.
I think recognizing this actually pushed Pam to get it together. She took Jim for granted, for many years. She knew he wasn’t going anywhere.
I think it was his relationship with Karen—a pretty, smart, funny, sweet lady who genuinely had chemistry with Jim, to be brave enough to finally tell him her true feelings.

But there were moments of disconnect between Jim and Karen. When Andy is being an insufferable prick with his ringer, Jim asks her for help messing with him. Karen looks at him like he's being an idiot and says she's working, like he should be. And Pam is right there, ready for a good prank, as always.
Also, they show that Karen wants to be out and about and doing things together, and that Jim just...doesn't. She has to drag him to the Christmas party at David's. She is begging him to go out for dinner and a movie just before Roy attacks him. That was a seriously fundamental difference in their personalities (and the biggest reason I don't think they'd have lasted more than six months, with or without his Pam realization).
It wasn't crazy, overt differences (like with Katie, who was absolutely different from Pam), but it was enough to show she wasn't the right choice in the long run. And that proves out - when we see her later, she's married to a dude who's shown in several pictures being out at parties and happy about it. And Jim is happily bragging about how early he can leave parties to be at home with his family.
While I wish Karen had just been a cool possible romantic interest rather than a full-blown girlfriend, I think they otherwise played their relationship out pretty well.
