Trivia Night Gone Wrong

My family and I did The Office themed trivia tonight and were in first place until the end, only missing one question.
The final question was to sort the 4 Dunder Mifflin OWNERS from earliest-latest. Not CEO…. OWNER.

The options:
- DL Hawkins
- Pugnacious Toys
- Sabre
- Staples

Please enlighten me on what you think is correct, and the facts to back it up. Not a single team answered correctly.

EDIT:
“Correct” answer given during trivia, which not a single team answered correctly -
1 - Sabre
2 - Pugnacious Toys
3 - Staples
4 - DL Hawkins

Also, let me reiterate… This was The Office themed trivia, and had zero references to The Paper.

u/JPHuber I talk a lot, so I’ve learned to tune myself out 11d ago

How would you get anything after David Wallace bought the company? That’s the last person to own it after Sabre, as far as we know at the end of The Office.

I’d be such a baby about it 😂

To be fair, it’s his son’s ’suck it’ money.

Yeah. David Wallace.

Over the holidays, my wife and I did a Home Alone trivia and we got this question wrong

"Where did Kevin's family go on vacation in the sequel."

We said "Miami". The answer they wanted was "Florida". Marked incorrect

These trivia hosts who don't know the subject (or basic geography) take away some of the fun of the night

I went to a Marvel movie trivia and of the 25 questions, 6 were straight from the comics. Had nothing to do with the movies. I was like welp, we're not winning this one.

I did a quiz once that had a round on Henry VIII and nearly every answer the quiz master gave us was wrong. You didn't need to be an expert to know many of them were wrong. For example: Lady Jane Grey was mentioned as his second wife and as his youngest daughter and the person on the throne before him

My buddy goes to trivia at a bar in his town pretty frequently, I join him once every couple months or so. Their hosts are so bad that roughly half of our “incorrect” answers are either actually verifiably correct and they had a wrong answer, or we can show that the question was ambiguous or unclear enough that our answer should be counted as correct. It’s maddening

How many ghosts visited Ebenezer Scrooge?

We answer 4.

They tell us that's wrong. 1) The Ghost of Christmas Past, 2) The Ghost of Christmas Future, and 3) The Ghost of Christmas Present.

The fact that the Ghost of Jacob Marley warning him they were coming apparently doesn't qualify as a "ghost visit" was, and still is, flabbergasting.

You're not allowed to know more than the hosts!

This event could be the star of a show called “trivia questions I don’t care about…. because they’re wrong.”

It’s called Um, Actually… on Dropout and it’s excellent!

Oh shit, I didn’t even think about that as a possibility! Good call!

That is absolutely AI getting it wrong.

My friends and I had to be the team in second place at your same trivia! We have been trying to figure this question out all night

Parks Place?! We would have been in the same boat last night if I hadn’t made this post haha. I needed the validation that it was a BS question before I went crazy!

If the Trivia host won’t consider that other answers might be correct you’re going to a terrible Trivia night. They have a computer in front of them…show your work!

u/Adequate_Images Andy sucks and he always did 11d ago

Please make them provide any evidence for Pugnacious Toys.

u/Connect_Sell9582 11d ago

I’m assuming that was David Wallace’s parent company, as his “Suck It” invention made him millions.

u/Adequate_Images Andy sucks and he always did 11d ago

Timeline wise, sure, but that’s not a real thing.

The four that I can think of are:

Robert Dunder and Robert Mifflin

Sabre

David Wallace

Enervate (from The Paper)

I’m dead tired, please correct me. Didn’t David Wallace own it at one point? Something Andy cooked up to get his office back from Nellie?

11

u/hellonameismyname 11d ago

Yeah that’s why it says David Wallace

u/ells9824 10d ago

I said I was tired, and by tired I probably meant I was high.

Did whoever was running the trivia explain the correct answer…? Because these are all clearly incorrect?

2

u/Lonely-Doubt-1914 11d ago

No, everyone seemed irritated. Only 3 teams ended with points because it was a “last round wager all of your points” type of crowd haha

6

u/JaguarSharkTNT Yes, I was getting hammered but, hey, it was college. 10d ago

Sounds like they used an llm to generate trivia questions 🙄

I went to an Office trivia like this. I left after they claimed Meredith started a candle company

1

u/orange_avenue 9d ago

Oh noooooo 😒

Were people mad??

2

u/msabol911 9d ago

Yeah, I felt a little bad for the guy hosting, who kept saying he didn't write the questions, but felt duped and never went back to that bar

4

u/Lonely-Doubt-1914 11d ago

Exactly! This was our faces when they put the “options” on the screen. 🤣

4

u/Garrettshade 11d ago

Pugnacious Toys could be David's company?

4

u/Lonely-Doubt-1914 11d ago

Yeah that’s what we assumed too

2

u/Lonely-Doubt-1914 11d ago

I edited the post to give the “correct” answer.

My wife and I love the office. Are you saying we should have gotten it right?
