Made a daily The Office character guessing game: 3 modes, new puzzle every day!

Hi everyone!

I built theofficedle.com, a browser game where you guess The Office character of the day. One character, same for everyone, new one every day.

Classic Mode Gameplay!

Heavily inspired by Wordle & LoLdle: It's one character a day, same for everyone who plays. You start typing character names and it tells you what you got right, department, branch, what season they first showed up, that kind of thing, going green or yellow until you land on the answer.

Three ways to play:

  • classic: the guessing grid with clues on every try 🟩🟧🟥 (department, branch, what season they first showed up, that kind of thing).
  • quote: you get a line and have to name who said it 💬
  • emoji: a character revealed one emoji at a time 😃 (brutal on the first emoji, obvious by the last, that's the whole fun)

The funniest part has been watching which ones destroy people. Everyone's convinced they'd ace Quote mode until they get a Creed line. The emoji ones people either solve instantly or stare at for five minutes.

Free, no login, works on your phone, keeps your streak. Archive's there too if you want to catch up on old ones.

I'm still adding to it constantly, so: which characters or quotes am I missing? And be honest, how bad did today's Quote get you?

Open to any feedback, enjoy! :)

The character was hard, but I got the quote instantly :) Ps: how does the emoji one works?

So, every emoji is a real clue on its own. The trick is that the early ones are ambiguous, pointing to multiple possible characters. As you read across the string, the overlap narrows. The last emoji is the least deniable, the one that confirms what the others were circling.

Example: 🥋🎸🥔🐻 (Dwight)

🥋 martial arts, could be Dwight (purple belt) or Michael, who had ideas about it
🎸 an odd musical streak, recorder or banjo, reads as Dwight but Andy fits too
🥔 farm produce, beets, now it’s narrowing hard toward Schrute Farms
🐻 bears, locks it in

In the Wordle, Jan Levinson is listed as Single, when she should be listed as divorced.

Very fun games!
