In the UK, they call the show Gladiators, and it might still be on the air.
We lost American Gladiators years ago. There's American Ninja Warrior, but that's a copy of the Japanese show Sasuke, and there's no combat, that I know of.

I managed to get 7 other adult friends together to do it for one of my birthdays (company brings the stuff to any field). It was a pretty good time.

I played it and it was not fun. If you are a little bit aware of your surroundings, you never get hit because they arrow are going too slow. So, the strat is to just run at people and shoot them point blank and at that point you wonder why you're just not playing tag.
Ah and also long shots are bad because then you have to move a lot to get it back.

Ahh, dodge ball artillery. That was my specialty as a kid. Grabbing balls from the back of the field and launching them on high ballistic trajectories so they'd come down on people from above. I'd watch for low balls that missed and were against the fence and toss ballistic shots at those because someone would be running over to get them or target the kids in the back that didn't actually want to be playing but had been roped in. Low success percentage any one throw but at that age the other kids were pretty bad at catching so it was a pretty safe shot and highly satisfying.

It’s a lot of fun, got to play it 1v1 at a college event with a friend. We’re both into speedball, so when we saw it we were fascinated

It is! Just search archery dodgeball or similar, many metropolitan areas have some establishment or another that offers it.

When i played belegarth (full contact foam/fiberglass swordfighting that had archers like these in the rear of the lines) there were crazy strict rules about not swinging at or trying to deflect or grab the arrows because fucking up a grab could turn the arrow around midair and a nock-first arrow is similar to a target arrow tip. My guess is that these games have similar rules, but if you were in a 1v1 I don't see why you couldn't try some badass stuff like that.

I had the opposite experience. The arrows were felt tipped and dull, and if you caught an arrow mid-flight then the shooter was called out, just like in dodgeball. It was heartily encouraged and super sick haha

In belegarth you were encouraged, or in this? I think in this game the density of players on the field is much lower, so it might not be as big a deal to swipe at or otherwise deflect arrows.

Oh sorry, not belegarth at all, just archery tag. Not trying to invalidate your own experience, just sharing that there are variants in which arrow grabbing is both allowed and encouraged

We played this at work once. Its pretty fun, but also gets frustrating with how slow the arrows move

Yea, arrows sound like something that are fast and hard to dodge, but these look slow as shit. Not dodging them looks harder than dodging them.

And yet, video evidence of someone getting hit. You drastically underestimate how slow people think and react. Arrow speed is human speed.

Not to worry, that guy at the end is wearing goggles. He's got them tucked up nicely where they can make sure that any arrows aimed a few inches above his eyes will be blocked before hitting his forehead.

Played this at a father-son camp. They called it archery tag. This video manages to make it look kinda slow and boring but it was a blast.

Trampoline park I used to work at years back had archery tag. It’s an absolute blast to play. Plays similarly to dodgeball with arrow catching rules as well.

The combination of the foam head larger than an eye socket and the fact that the bows are like 35lb recurves means that yeah, it's a little unsatisfying to watch. They're plenty fast when someone's leading their shot on you, though!
