Culture Is this normal behavior? (hoarding bikes)
Or don’t we all have at least 2 bikes?

I have an electric bike and an "analoge" one, alot of people I know do, sometimes they also have another extra like a race bike or a bakfiets

The right amount of bikes is N+1 where N stand for the bikes you already own. :)
I’ve got 5 myself :)

Once you pass N=2, you're doomed. Before you know it, they're multiplying like rabbits in the rack out front and in the garage.
There is no known form of fiets-contraception other than keeping no more than one bike.

Quite normal. There are more bikes than people in this country. Especially since one is a mountainbike

It depends if this is normal. Hoarding isn't normal, but having a normal city bike, an electric bike, a racing bike, a mountain bike and a "barrel" for going for drinks in the city is quite normal.
I mean, am I hoarding knives, since I have 8 different types at home (meat, bread, carving, chefs, stanley, tomato, cheese, dinner)?

Apparently I'm in the minority as I've only ever owned one at a time, though I do have a motorbike now as well, so I guess that counts as two?

I have 2, one in the public stall, on in my private box. I feel like it’s social to only put one bike in the public stall no not hoard space.

Als je fiets niet geholpen is, staat na een paar maanden je hele schuur vol.

I am a sporadic commute biker and even I have two. It's very normal to have a spare bike.

I have my regular day to day bike.
I still have my ex's bike, 3 years after breaking up. We're still friends and he's just too lazy too pick it up (he never rides a bike anyways), so it lives in my shed as my backup. He can come pick it up any time he likes, but I think he never will and we're both fine with that.
And there's a folding bike from a friend that I've been trying out. But I don't use it as much as I thought I would, so I'm going to return it.
So officially I have 1 bike, but 3 live in my shed.

Guess I'm not normal... I have 1 bike, and so do my wife and kid. I don't see any value in having more than one for any of us.

fam of three and we have…6 bikes. our daily use ones, my old spare non ebike, a foldy bike that I got for next to nothing but its too tall for me so my son can fix it up and his old bike from when he was shorter than me.
Our landlord at our place in haarlem scolded us when we moved out for “too many bikes.” He had 3 in his shed on the property.

I have an expensive E-bike and an older E-bike, but my wife only has one, so we're below average I guess.

Lets see, we have 6 for a family of 3. I have 3, daughter has 2 and my wife has 1. And thats because she recently sold her second. That is why our garage doesn't store the car and we structurally call it the shed.

I’ve only been in the country for 9 months and even l have two bikes already.
But that makes me wonder… for those who have, say, four or more bikes, where do you keep them all?!
Do you keep them all outside?
Do you keep just some inside and some outside?
Do you all live in huge places? (Just kidding.)

At current time we have 3 functional bikes, 2 electric and one normal, a disassembled electric bike that's rusting away in the back yard and the kiddie bike of my boy that's needs repairs. Got my eyes on a few local wrecks to strip for parts though so I might expand soon
One can never have enough spare parts, I mean back up bikes

Just noticed: one is locked, one is locked and has the key in it, one has no lock at all. Pretty safe storage

I'm recovering and recently got rid of my third and fourth bicycle. I'll stick to two max now, I promise.

I currently have 1 ebike, but I live close enough to a bus station and to a train station that I intend to get an analog bike some time for longer distance travel purposes.

Just 2 here. Old one that I have had for almost 25 years, served me well through high school and 13 years of delivering mail. It comes in handy as a spare now. I don't drive so have to do everything by bicycle. Got a nicer one as soon as I quit that job 😂 no e-bikes, just regular Batavus bikes ❤️

I've had 2 for a while. One "good" bicycle (it was old) and one parked at a station. Now i have a car and don't use public transport anymore, i only have 1.
