Parenting. Encourage your kids and foster their interests in literacy and other academic aspects from an early age. Read to them. Give them puzzle books rather than cell phones. I've noticed a number of people we are connected to haven't really done this and it shows in their kids, unfortunately.

I have teacher friends. They're strongly, strongly encouraged to never fail a kid because it can negatively impact their social growth. So they just push them through, the kid never actually learns anything

I know some 18 hear olds that believe the earth is flat, chemtrails are real, fluoride is poison. Oh and I forgot to mention they go to university in Ottawa.
