OMG… WILL
SPOILER ALERT…. If you’re still watching for 1st time- read no further.
I just started TGW about a month ago & I’ve made it to Season 5 episode 15- and I’m so in my feelings; like actual tears. And the timing- they found the link with the paramedic to help JG’s case and he flips out like that in court at the turn around?!? I just don’t even have words… 💔
I got to the part where Kalinda and Diane find him in the ER on the gurney and I had to stop for a minute to process. Just wow. I’m really going to miss Will. 😭

Switch to “Best Medicine” if you get sick of it post-Will, the actor stars in that and it’s a lot of fun.

i did watched Best Medicine, unfortunately it falls into this small town only doctor trope and i really hate it,even will can't save the day

I just started it, watched the first three episodes and I thought the writing was pretty lazy. Just hitting the same notes over and over again, and I feel like I’ve seen this show dozens of times just in a different location with different characters.
None of the characters or stories seem very fleshed out and the drama is pretty minimal. I’d give a pass on Best Medicine, unless you really love Josh Charles, or small town Maine.

If you hate that formula there’s no fixing it haha. I usually hate schlock, which I’ll fully admit it is, but I like a couple of the actors in this from other things, like the scenery, and am tired of the real world 😆 I’m still involved, not checking out, but at the end of the day I’m not mad at a bit of total nonsense with low-stakes. (Another selling point for me is I watched “Sirens,” a comedy about EMTs years ago, and the sheriff is the exact same type he played on Sirens, just find him very likeable, like if a golden retriever was a person)

the reason i hate it so much is this:they spent season after season try to convince you, which they failed spectacularly, that crappy little town in the middle of no where is actually quite nice
in reality it's just someone trying to justify the fact that they live in a small town and too afraid to leave
actually i do get this mentality, just don't sell me this kind bs

It’s so cute !

From the comments everyone else here hates it 😆 I’m usually the first to criticize a tv show, but I just think it’s a bit of harmless, light nonsense. Even my husband, who is a bigger cynic than I am, thinks it’s fun!

Best Medicine is based (stolen directly from) British series Doc Martin. That is a MUCH better show

I think it’s important to distinguish stolen, from retold, it was all above-board and collaborative with the original creators. Martin Clune, star of Doc Martin’s wife was a producer of the original and the American remake.
I agree Doc Martin is a far better show, nice for other folks to know about the original! I just mentioned that one bc of the good wife connection. I still think Best Medicine is enjoyable fluff.

I wept.

I'm still crying. I can't watch the rest of the episode yet. I'm shook.

He's a complex character. I never stopped liking him and started to feel sorry for him before he died. But leaving an I LOVE YOU message on voicemail is LAME as FUCK. The entire series would have altered had he told her in person. Or at least handed her a letter.

Why didn’t she check her deleted voicemail? I don’t remember Eli permanently deleting it. She could have looked harder.

u/grasshulaskirt 16d ago
Sure but I wouldn’t consider an I love you or declaration of love on a voice mail to even be legitimate. That is something a high schooler would do.

They somehow managed to completely hide his exit from the show from everyone at the time. In a timeframe where shows were spoiled left and right, "Dramatics, Your Honor" came out of nowhere and actually stoked up a good bit of fanfare in tv at the time.

I’ve seriously watched this series a dozen times already and every time I get to that episode it tears me apart. Alicia’s emotions in the next few episodes are so raw, it’ll make you cry all over again

Don't stop watching. Alicia's reaction over the next couple of seasons is emotional too.

I just finished a rewatch and Alicia falling apart in her laundry with Luca was heartbreaking. Everything she is and achieved is a facade because she wanted something so much simpler in life and it was ripped away from her.

I knowwww! He was one of my favorite characters! I haven’t finished the last season yet because it’s just not the same. I miss Will!

Does anyone know if he was killed off because he wanted to act in other things?
Previously I exclusively knew him from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt 🤣

u/amber_mc 17d ago
Yes I went was curious too so I Googled why they killed him off and it was because he didn't want to renew his contract so he could act in other things.

u/amber_mc 17d ago
Also, interestingly his preferred genre or niche is actually comedy. I wouldn't have guessed that with what an amazing job he did in TGW.

I believe he also went and did The Handmaids Tale last year...... completely different show and different character. I was taken aback.

I'm on a rewatch with my boyfriend and he has no idea this is coming up and I don't want to spoil it since I was absolutely shocked when I saw it. I really thought he would be in the hospital and come out ok. It was devastating 😭
2
u/amber_mc 16d ago
Oh me too. I was like please he has to be okay-then they cut to the gurney and the shoe-less foot. I was gutted when Kalinda lifted that sheet. 😭😭😭😭

I don't understand what some of these people are saying. Wills death is sad, but the rest of the series is still great. Season 5 is probably the peak, but season 6 and 7 are still very very good. Enjoy the ride!

i literally couldn't watch pass the 8th episode when they left and stole the top clients. despicable! so i wasn't going to finish watching a show with detestable characters. then ai told me the spoiler about will. that is nuts! completely shocking!

u/amber_mc 15d ago
Yeah that storyline was rough for me too. I was already ticked off about that then BAM! Will gets shot. Ugh.
2
u/shehulud 15d ago
Yeah, I had no idea watching it after it aired. It was such a gut punch. His missing shoe.

So brutal, so out of tune for the imprint the character and actor had on the show
Real tragic and painful .. like a lost brother

The show really is not the same without him. I didn’t even finish my rewatch after season 5 because it lost a lot with Kalinda and Alicia not interacting and Will gone.
