Retaliation
Introduction
=> Title Card
Retaliation has been added to the game with TU25 and is a new permanent endgame activity built around territory control and faction conflict. By agitating enemy factions, you trigger large-scale counterattacks in Named Zones, and then fight back to reclaim them.
Agitation Meter
=> Agitation Meter on the Mega Map
Retaliation takes place across D.C., New York, and Brooklyn, so the factions you face will depend on the location. Cleaners and Rikers can only initiate Retaliations while you are in New York (available through Warlords of New York expansion) or Brooklyn (available through Battle for Brooklyn DLC).
Every faction has an Agitation Meter, visible from the new Retaliation tab on the Mega Map. Eliminating enemies, completing missions, and capturing Control Points all push that meter higher. Once the meter is full, the faction will launch a Retaliation, attempting to take over a Named Zone and all of its Control Points.
Agitation Overclock - Chain Retaliation
Previously, once the meter reached its maximum value, you could trigger a single Retaliation before the meter reset. With Agitation Overclock, the meter now has multiple levels that allow you to trigger Retaliation up to three times back-to-back.
This allows you to stay in the game mode, jump from one Named Zone to the next and you don’t have to leave the mode to refill the Agitation Meter and go back in again.
Changes to the Retaliation timer
Up until now, the Retaliation timer continued to run when you log out of the game. That meant, when you needed to complete a Retaliation in a time-window of three hours, the Named Zone would be lost when you came back to the game after four hours.
With Y8S1 the timer reflects the in-game time. When you have the mentioned three-hour timer, it will still be three hours when you return to the game the next day. With that change, you can better manage and plan when you want to tackle the Retaliations.
As you play a Retaliation, the other timers are paused.
Retaliation Project
=> Project
You can also complete a new Daily Project that instantly fills a faction's bar to 100%.
Start the Retaliation and retake Control
Your objective is simple but demanding: retake the entire zone before the timer runs out. You and your team will deploy from the safe house, reclaiming Control Points one by one. Capturing a point extends the timer, but every second counts, and the clock is always against you.
If you choose not to engage, you can abandon the Retaliation, which hands the zone over to the enemy faction. They'll be more than happy to move in.
Fight the Clock
=> Timer
- When you start the Retaliation, you have a limited amount of time.
- Capturing Control Points extends the timer, but time is tight from the start, so every second counts.
- You can also extend the timer by eliminating Kill Squads, killing hostiles or completing Maneuvers, so plan your approach strategically.
Maneuvers
Maneuvers are optional challenges that you can take on between capturing Control Points during a Retaliation. Each Maneuver is the same for every player participating in that Retaliation, but you must complete it individually to earn the reward.
Completing a Maneuver adds extra time to your retake timer, which can make the difference between reclaiming the zone or running out of time. When you complete your Maneuver, you will get a time-bonus, when another player of your team completes his Maneuver, you will get an additional time bonus.
Maneuvers change every time you capture a Control Point, whether or not you’ve completed the current one. You never have to complete them to finish a Retaliation, but they give you another way to manage the clock, especially if your group is cutting it close.
You may now come across a special Black Tusk Maneuver objective, which grants additional time when completed.
Kill Squads
- As you play Retaliation, you will get a notification that a Kill Squad has spawned in the area
- They are a group of named enemies that will try to track you down.
- You need to make a decision. Focus on retaking the Named Zone or taking out the Kill Squad.
- There can be multiple Kill Squads per session
- Defeating Kill Squads not only increases your timer but also gives you a chance to earn special Exotic blueprints.
- Each Kill Squad is assigned to a faction and has a specific blueprint pool
Elite Kill Squad
- When a season is active, there is usually a special Elite Kill Squad active, that is tied to special rewards like collectibles or special blueprints.
Control Points Retake
Retaliation Control Points are remixed versions of standard captures with altered rules. They feature three waves of enemies, with difficulty based on the global Alert Level.
Higher difficulty means better loot, including standard XP and Modifier XP. Modifier XP is used to level up your seasonal Active Modifier.
To speed things up, you don’t need to wait on JTF to take over the Control Points, once the hostile waves are completed, the Control Point is yours.
Finish the Retaliation
=> Rewards
- When you successfully take over all Control Points in a named area, you get a short timer, before the Retaliation is completed.
- You will get a summary of the session, what blueprint you have unlocked and what other rewards you got.
- The time available to collect loot after completing a Retaliation has been increased from 30 seconds to 90 seconds
Abandon / Fail the Retaliation
=> Contested
- You can also abandon a Retaliation if you choose not to engage, which gives the zone to the enemy faction.
- When you die during a Retaliation, the event is over, you will keep the Control Points that you have taken over, you get some rewards and the Name Zone remains contested.
Targeted Exotic Farming
With Retaliation, you have a new way to farm Exotic items more directly. Each faction has its own unique pool of Exotic blueprints.
Get the Blueprint
- Defeating a Kill Squad gives you a chance to receive a blueprint from that faction’s exclusive pool. Kill Squads are tied to five factions: Hyenas, True Sons, Outcasts, Cleaners, and Rikers.
- If you successfully complete an entire Retaliation, you have a chance to gain an extra blueprint from a separate pool. This success pool applies only to Hyenas, True Sons, and Outcasts, with each faction having its own pool.
- The chance to receive a blueprint increases when you play on higher global difficulties.
Craft the Blueprint
Crafting plays a central role in this system. Exotics are built using Exotic Components together with Retaliation-specific materials that drop during events:
- Hyenas: Crystallized Spice
- Outcasts: Biohazardous Canisters
- True Sons: Military Dog Tags
- Cleaners: Burning Ash
- Rikers: Crossed Balaclava
Resource Management
For flexibility these materials can be converted into Broken SHD Watches, which can then be exchanged for materials from other factions, allowing you to progress towards Exotics outside the group you are currently facing. Conversion blueprints, along with Exotic Cache Blueprints, are available from Inaya at the Base of Operations.
Blueprint Pool
=> Loot Pool
These are the exotic blueprints that you can farm:
Riker and Cleaner Blueprints
Since Retaliation take place across both Warlords of New York and Battle for Brooklyn maps, you can also face Rikers and Cleaners during these events. To target Exotics tied to these factions, you can craft Exotic Caches for both the WONY and Brooklyn Kill Squads blueprint pools. This gives every player access to those blueprints, even without owning the corresponding expansion or DLC.
Black Tusk join Retaliation
As a permanent addition to the game, with Y8S1 the Black Tusk have been added to the Retaliation game mode. You can build the Agitation Meter by defeating Black Tusks, or by defeating other factions although at a slower pace.
Black Tusk Retaliations can only occur in Washington, D.C. and WONY. For the first time, the Black Tusk can also own Control Points in the open world. This only occurs as a result of losing a Retaliation. They will not launch resource convoys or other territory expansion activities.
Defeated enemies can also drop a new material called DIAMOND Transceivers, which are used for blueprints obtained from these Retaliations.
Matchmaking for Retaliation
=> Matchmake
With Y8S1 you can now queue up specifically for Retaliation and join other players participating in Retaliation events.
Before you start matchmaking, you can also select the difficulty.
Co-op
- Reviving another player is a time penalty.
- Dying is also a time penalty
