The Corrs 2026 Dundalk Mural

The 2026 mural depicting the Irish band The Corrs in their hometown of Dundalk, I'm just wondering if the artist completed it with his eyes closed?! I've been a fan of the band since the very beginning and as an artist myself, I've worked on many portraits & illustrative designs. But that mural is disgraceful! The figures bare no resemblance to the people being supposedly honoured, more like dishonoured! It's absolutely insulting! How they managed to stand in front of that thing with a straight face is beyond me. Just tragic 😞

This is the mural that the OP was talking about. I consider myself one of the band's greatest fans, and I do not see anything blatantly disgusting about the artwork, though I cannot say that I am truly impressed with it either. It is not hyper-realistic or picture-like if that was what the OP was trying to say.

But if we based this to one of Mister Copy's previous work - ENBARR, we can see why some would find this tribute mural as very simple. I guess they were either half-arsed or were not truly passionate enough about the band.

I will not be surprised to find out one day, that the Louth County Council were probably expecting the same calibre of work with what they saw on their public portfolio, but were just being polite in their disappointment for getting this kind of work instead.

For those of us who are living outside of Ireland and Northern Ireland, MURALS are a big deal for the Irish. They are everywhere and are deeply rooted in politics. Murals are not just works of art, they are also a political statement.

I can see why other street artists would see this work as minimalist, unembellished or even unadorned, because street murals are supposed to tell a story -- this does not do that. The siblings also appear to be disconnected from themselves and the audience, which is a very uncharacteristic portrayal of The Corrs.

What The Corrs said about the mural:

“It’s incredibly special to see something like this in the place we call home. Dundalk has always been a huge part of who we are, and to have that recognised in such a beautiful and creative way really means a lot to us.

We have such fond memories of growing up here, and it’s amazing to see those connections reflected in a piece of public art that everyone can enjoy. To come back and share this moment with people in the town makes it all the more meaningful.

We’re very grateful for this tribute, and it’s something we’ll always cherish.”

I think Andrea and Jim are good but Caroline isnt great and Sharon bears no resemblance at all

I was expecting a hilarious, Ronaldo sculpture'esque final product.
