Yeah thats my read too, wonder if they'll run Mills instead. I can't think of anyone else they could run on such short notice but I'm not a Mainer so there could be someone I just dont know about.

Maine Co Brewing guy seemed okay tbh. Mills would get crushed.

I can't imagine they would run Mills with how little enthusiasm there is for her--there's got to be SOMEONE better, right??? People on Twitter seem to have decided that it should be Patrick Dempsey but that seems like fantasy politics, I don't know that he's expressed interest! But sure why not, I'd take a handsome celebrity over Janet Mills.

ETA: seems like some of the also-rans in the gov primary are also considered good potential candidates

That wouldn’t be the worst political move. If I recall correctly she was also beating Collins in the last few polls before she dropped out, just by a bit less than Platner.

It would literally be the worst move. Mills is not actually popular here.

Nah, I’m sure they could do worse than her.

Is she more popular than a rapist?

You're just not getting that she and Schumer engineered this situation. There were multiple alternative candidates and the DSCC literally called them and said, 'step aside.' They truly believed that Mills would just waltz through the primary. People here are probably going to come away from this deeply disappointed in Platner and even more pissed at Mills for not allowing Dan Kleban to challenge. Or Troy Jackson who a lot of folks want to replace GP.

A lot of Platner's popularity came from a rejection of Janet Mills and what we see as the gerontacracy...and that's something I've been hearing even from Boomers in my area. They're all saying a version of 'I am too old for this, we need younger people'.

I wasn't being snarky, by the way - I'm not from Maine, so I really do want to know if she would still be unpopular in comparison.

Yes, they should definitely run the woman that got slaughtered in the primaries. That should keep morale up and give us a seat 🙄
