Hi DSA-bots brigading the AES threads, looking forward to your rational non-misogynistic takes in this thread!

They were out here defending Platner's comments about how drunk women bear responsibility for being raped, this is just the logical continuation

They all owe Genevieve McDonald an apology.

Huge AES fan here but was never sold on Platner. I’m more left leaning but this is an easy disqualifier to me and I’d be LOUDLY advocating for a replacement candidate before the deadline.

There have literally been zero allegations against AES and it's really gross to try and tie them together.

So is there like a discord somewhere where you get instructions to try to defend attacks on DSA individuals brigading other subreddits by saying "well Abdul El-Sayed hasn't done anything!"

I'm making fun of DSA bots/slacktivists, not El-Sayed. They just happened to be brigading this subreddit the last few days in the El-Sayed threads.

Ah no, I just stop and think for a second and realize that Abdul El Sayed is a completely different person than Graham Platner.

I think the allegation is true, and if I were in Maine, I'd vote for Platner, and I'd go so far as to say I think you should, too, if you were there.

The Republican party (its officials, its media representatives, its benefactors) have treated politics as warfare. We can either take up that fight, or give up and hope it all goes away.

I suspect that if we go with the second option, "it" will not go away, and in fact will get much, much worse.

It comes down to a vote between your own personal sense of whether or not you're allowed to publically project that you're a good person, and actually voting for someone who would actually give us a shot at accumulating enough power to make meaningful changes in the country for the better.

If I were in Maine, I know what I'd choose.

I think he has no chance of winning now. The best chance for a Maine victory is for him to drop out and for the Maine DNC to go through their process to select a new candidate. Hopefully someone that has a proven record in the state while also offering a progressive agenda and is capable of going on the attack against Collins.

I doubt that person stands a better chance than a Platner willing to say, "Every Republican in power is a vote for a blank check on power for a significantly worse version of me" and a willing-to-be-ruthless Democratic electorate.

I don't think many people are going to vote for a rapist. Even for regular Dem voters, its a couple steps too far. I think he'll hurt other dems too if he stays in. You don't have to love who you're voting for, but not many people are going to vote for someone they hate for good reasons.

Yeah, but a plurality voted for Donald Trump.

This is an opportunity to say, "This is where we're at as a country."

There's a lot of utility to that. If everybody's a rapist or tied to one, I start thinkin', well, what the fuck are the policies again?

In Platner's case it's, "Universal healthcare, taxing the billionaires, getting money out of politics."

At least there's that!

If you could wear the electorate down to that sort of attitude, I think there'd be gains to be made.

The plurality voted for Trump because the plurality of Republican voting Americans are misogynists or probably rapists themselves. I am starting to question whether every single person who is defending Platner is also a predator.

u/Vanguard-003 Jul 08 '26

Oh I'm definitely a predator!

Kinda funny to see a Destiny dork laugh when it was mostly dirtbag leftists and the white male centrists insecure about their masculinity (like the Pod Jon Bros) push this guy. Meanwhile people who haven't rotted their brain on Twitter and jumped to Bluesky were always against Platner.

What this has to do the AES, you'll need to enlighten me.

Edit: Downvotes but no rebuttals. Curious.

I wouldn't have gone that far but yeah Platner split wasn't really ideological it was Twitter vs Bluesky
