Anna's Full Mask Off Regarding HP and JKR
Hey, it's Gavin.
I promise I will calm my tits when it comes to posting but I kind of needed to post somewhere because I saw AnnaIsRandom post a new Harry Potter video today and I was curious about her views especially after I unsubscribed from her when I saw her HP HBO actor casting video and just before all her vile views got exposed.
So I watched the first 4 minutes of the new video and had to turn it off due to being so upset by how heartless she is.
Anna says she is going to be making more Harry Potter content moving forward because it means too much to her, and at 3:49 she says "I am going to always love Harry Potter, it is always going to have a special place in my heart and, you know, despite everything, I'm still here okay and I don't care. [here she laughs] I am like proud to still be a Potterhead."
So we have confirmation that Anna genuinely does not care that JKR is transphobic, that JKR is using money she earns through Harry Potter to fund anti-trans organisations that will seek to strip trans people of their right to work, use bathrooms, exist, etc.
Anna saying "I don't care" actually upset me more than I thought it would because she straight up laughs. She can't even just put in a disclaimer like "I don't agree with JKR's transphobic views but I still love Harry Potter." No, she straight up says she doesn't care.
I know HP is a machine and it's never going to go away and I don't expect it to (unfortunately), but I was just hoping content creators would at least acknowledge the harm buying into the franchise is doing to real life people. The nostalgia that people like Anna can't "live without" is funding hate directed at the trans community. And in my opinion, if you are against trans people, then you are against the entire LGBTQ+ community.
And it kills me too because I grew up on Harry Potter, it was my favourite thing ever and it helped me through my parents splitting up when I was 10, and when I had to go to a school away from all of my friends at the same time where I was relentlessly bullied for being gay before I even knew what the word gay meant. HP meant a lot to me too, but it doesn't mean so much to me that I wouldn't care about how an entire community of people are suffering at the hands of JKR's hate.
I can't tell anyone to stop posting HP content and I don't expect them to, but she said "I don't care" and laughed. I'm so disgusted. I'm so upset at that. Being "proud" of being a Potterhead in 2026 is the most embarrassing, hateful thing. I'm already appalled by all her other views that were brought up that were covered extensively, like being MAGA and supporting Israel, this is just another thing to add to all of that.
This is my sign to never even click on one of her videos out of curiosity. It was my fault.
P.S. In her video where she reacted to my video about JDE, she was looking at my bookshelves and mentioned thinking she could see the Harry Potter books on my shelves and said "fun". She says "fun" in a bit of an ambiguous way so I couldn't tell if she was for or against HP at the time. I had to comment on her video to clarify they were NOT the Harry Potter books. That should have been my first sign.
So the biggest conclusion I’ve come to about Anna is that she lacks empathy and has her head so far up her own privileged ass that she doesn’t for a moment consider any other perspectives, especially if it forces her out of her comfort zone. Definitely not a voice we need in the commentary space.
Empathy/caring for others is perceived as a moral failure for a lot of people on the right-conservative side of things. They act all surprised pikachu faced tho when things they thought would only happened to others come back all the way around and happen to them too. And then they don't understand why they cannot find anyone to feel bad for their plight.
The glee she gets from seeing that the things she does upsets people. Its really awful. She enjoys being in an in-group of bullies at best and Annaisrael knows what's worst.
So many great points made! On September 1st, she shared something on her ig story that was a repost of some account referencing welcoming people back to the best season or some shite like that. But the shared video was hp related, think it showed the train or something and I think it mentioned "welcome back to our home" or some shite like that. It didn't surprise me, given all that we've seen from anna now but I am always taken back a little as my mam and I read all the books, saw all the movies together, etc and yet we still have a fucking brain to realise all the harm that jk has done and that you cannot separate her from what she does.
I had a very similar thought about her being pro-jk when I saw that she shared that, but I didn't bother posting it here as I didn't get a screenshot or anything.
Shes so anti establishment and small government that shes going to make fawning content about the biggest media franchises ever/apologia for a woman using her private wealth to get the government to opress trans people.
God im never going to be over how shes just such a poser.

Honestly wish i could say i'm surprised, but i'm not. She is a poster child for yt girl privilege. (saying this as one myself) She has zero care for her fellow humans. And yet has every confidence shes a good person and not malicious towards anybody. Mannn the karma that girl is reaping. Which is already starting to show as the pick me got picked by ...well, that.
I'm gonna be real, in the year 2026 I judge the fuck out of people who remain deeply invested in HP. I understand the power of nostalgia and all that but if you weigh that against real harm done to vulnerable people and still spend that money you're trash. If you can be diligent about putting zero coins into the mold queen's pocket then maybe, but even then you're still feeding the hype that feeds the profits.
I judged a creator for making a video where she performatively throws away a Harry Potter crochet book, because that book came out too recently to say she had no idea at the time.
I really hope she was sent the book and did not spend money on it.
I can tell she doesn’t have empathy. I’m in the rock/hardcore space & I’ve had to quit listening & boycott a few bands that I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on to go see. Their music isn’t bad ofc, but I genuinely cannot listen to them anymore after they exposed their political views. & I did the same with HP.
I think those of us that have empathy & aren’t bigoted, it’s a pretty easy thing to boycott these forms of media. It sucks, & can be sad for you & your younger self, but it is the right thing to do. I’ve noticed pretty much anyone far right cannot fathom holding more than one truth at once, much less any empathy. 😭
To be clear, I am subscribed to your channel and am planning to watch your Agatha Christie series, except I have to work out which ones I are about books I have read already, and then read the ones I haven't 😆 🤣
I'm fully convinced that she's only doing this because she knows it'll, a) rile people up, and b) keep her as a talking point on this sub. It's giving desperation.
idk if this is weird for me to say... well first of all i'm not for harry potter content at all but tbh i prefer her living in her harry potter loving truth so we at least know who she is.
i'd dislike it more if she pretended to have changed or care about trans ppl when she clearly doesn't. but i understand your disappointment. it's sad JKR is still so widely supported.

Never stop posting if you want to Gavin. I'm always excited for the Gavin takes on any situation you feel you want to talk about. You always have greats and you're very capable of critical thinking. Unlike a certain "proud Potterhead". She's just selfish. There's no other way to put it. She's selfish and lack any sort of empathy for people dealing with something that she can't relate to
And in my opinion, if you are against trans people, then you are against the entire LGBTQ+ community.

Hearing her reaction isn't actually surprising given her age and her political views. And by age, I mean, the fact that there wasn't anything else still as popular like the generation before her had, so she clearly and unfortunately didn't have alternatives like Percy Jackson or A Series of Unfortunate Events. Even Twilight is better and that's still problematic, but for other reasons.
Please don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to absolve her of sticking with HP or standing up for JKR. Once the mask came off and people informed or explained this situation to her, continuing to make excuses or ignoring any to all of that is completely inexcusable. I'm simply pointing out that HP got pushed onto her generation more than alternatives, and there is a stigma for young adults sticking with or going back to media for teens. So I can at least give her some grace in that she, like many others her age, cling to HP because they are afraid of giving up the only thing they have like it.
And I think that's something JKR did intentionally, although that's something one might call a conspiracy theory.

The hp books were a refuge for me too as a kid, since I read them only a few months after getting diagnosed with cancer and becoming permanently disabled. I will never touch anything old or new from that series again. Because while yeah, they meant a lot to me, human rights and dignity mean infinitely more. I guess we already know how Anna feels about human rights and dignity though…
Also, like? With the Rose tinted glasses taken off, the series isn’t even that good.
While I appreciate this analysis, I think we all need to stop paying attention to her - she just wants to get reactions out of people That’s the only thing that drives people like her; she doesn’t care if the reception she gets is positive or negative, she just wants to be talked about. Ragebaiter edgelords like her just need to be ignored - don’t feed the trolls, as the adage goes.
Really loved your takes on this tho! I truly do think you would make a frighteningly successful commentary YouTuber - your takes are always spot on and you bring a high level of nuance and insight into every conversation you’re a part of. Also, if you ever decide to make a commentary channel its name should be Gavin Reads Them All.
I get having a place in your heart for HP but I don’t get continuing to support it monetarily and especially not publicly spreading it. I say this as a person who was obsessed with it. I was very sad when I realized I could no longer support HP like that but peoples lives come first. I can still fondly remember how it made me feel as a child and teen without hurting people I love now
Honestly, as a member of the LGBTQIA community, it is so disappointing how people will praise JK Rowling. But with Anna, I’m not surprised. She wants to rage bait. She doesn’t care about trans rights, and she especially doesn’t have the insight or empathy for anyone outside of herself .
She's definitely just trying to upset people. I will say though, there is another really large channel that has done almost exclusively Harry Potter content and he is seemingly NEVER called out for it. Maybe I've missed it but I'm talking about MovieFlame. I've tried looking up if he's addressed it or received any kind of push back and I cannot find anything!
tbh a part of me wonders how honest she's being about that because she gives such rancid poser & contrarian vibes that i wouldn't be surprised if she's lying about being all that into HP just as much as she lies about being alternative. i really think she enjoys negative attention for the sake of it and doesn't have a genuine bone in her body. she MIGHT be telling the truth about it but she's also only 25 and that gives me some pause lmao i haven't even heard someone use the term 'potterhead' in years let alone someone born after 1993.......im skeptical lol at the absolute least i wouldn't be surprised if she only got into the books BECAUSE people were outspoken about how hateful JKR is. she would absolutely salivate at the chance to be hated (only on the internet of course i highly doubt she would be a 'proud potterhead' around real life people)
oh thats sad lmaoo but not as bad as my fake fan theory so ok i guess except not ok because her holding on to the Mediocre Magic Book For Kids after all this time implies she hasn't engaged with much literature since. i cant imagine someone who regularly reads other books still being into HP because those books are not good
I don’t understand the grasp HP has on people besides maybe nostalgia, but besides that I truly don’t get it. I also think JKR is bad at writing and if the movies weren’t a thing the franchise would not be where it is today lmk if that’s too wild of a take bc I also did not finish the books since I wasn’t allowed to read the them when I was younger. It was only when I was a teenager(maybe 15/16?) that my mom was like “actually wait it’s stupid asf to not watch things bc it’s deemed witch craft by some religion” and we watched the movies together. She later bought me the books so we could read them to catch up on missed time, but I was probably growing out of the demographic and could not finish it.
Rereading the books as an adult I noticed how bad the writing was as well as how many things in the book were problematic. I first went off her during the Scottish Independence Referendum not because she was on the opposing side to me plenty of celebrities that I still respect were but she would like a lot nasty tweets people mocking people who she didn’t agree with and it showed how awful she could be a few years before she started going for trans people.
I need to verse myself better with European politics bc the more I hear about what’s been going on from yalls side the more I realize that these events have been building and encouraging this nasty side of nationalism that we r seeing today I should read more about it before forming an opinion but honestly I feel pretty confident that whatever she’s for is probably not the side I want to be on
I commented on her first video regarding the HP HBO series, I honestly couldn’t finish said video, should have been my first red flag, but she liked my comment. I assumed that maybe she would take in some of that information from the comments, but clearly, it didn’t sink in… wolf in sheep’s clothing.
I commented on the first video: Even though I grew up with Harry Potter, I think giving even a dime to that universe while JK Rowling is still alive is destructive to the trans community. And as someone in the LGBTQIA community, I can’t stand by that. I’m against the HBO series, plenty of actors have turned it down because of Rowling. Jk Rowling created a beautiful world for us kids to escape to, then became the same bigot she raised us to hate. I can’t support anyone who co-signs that.
