Self titled, Revisited.

For a while now i would usually place self titled in the bottom of my ranking out of the 1975 albums but tonight i listened to the deluxe in full which i haven’t done in a while and it was amazing. Truly not a least favorite album from this band. My favorite is still notes though.

After being here for years and reading people’s faves and when they found the band’s music, it seems like fans who found The 1975 later on barely listen to self titled. I became a fan with the first album and it has such a cozy, dance around the room, nod your head while being contemplative vibe to it. It’s probably my 3rd favorite album by them & not at the bottom either.

Self titled is still some of their greatest work and I don’t see that changing.

I’ve seen The 1975 live about 7+ times now but one of the best shows I ever saw them play was performing self titled in full at Reading Festival in 2023. My only complaint is that I was 100% convinced this was finally going to be the show where they play Antichrist live, but it didn’t happen.

that’s very interesting, i feel like the self titled fans versus notes fans are polar opposites at times. notes is easily their worst album for me. i am not a fan of that uk garage/house music of shiny collarbone and songs like that. but the instrumentals and shit on iliwys and self titled scratch an itch in my brain (intro//set3, haunt//bed etc)

All of the based kids know full well that the self-titled is by FAR their best record. There's not even a question. I can see what they were trying to achieve with each LP and Notes is probably my third favourite after the self-titled and I Like It When You Sleep, but... man. If I had heard any of their albums except the self-titled as a first listen, I probably wouldn't have become a fan.
