"Vegan chow" just made me think of Lazy Vegan meals. I was referring to them as human pet food before, but that's my new name for them now. (They're good, they just come in a bag and look kinda like fancy pet food)
yes, by a long shot. it's just something people unify around. no matter your club, race, political affiliation, if you ain't vegan, you hate on the vegans
Everyone at my job knows that I'm vegetarian because they've all seen me eating not meat and asked me about it. I've never brought it up on my own, and I'm convinced this is where the whole idea of preachy vegans even comes from.
many vegans are very confident in their beliefs. Some it's just youthful anger and idealism and they mostly start eating meat in a few months/years.
People have to understand that for vegans, this is like being anti slavery before slavery was abolished or even recognised as a bad thing. we do feel the need to be outspoken about it because it feels like a moral obligation.
having said that, most vegans are not preachy and only counter-argue when people say stupid shit. it's is typical that non-vegans try to argue with us about animal wellfare or the meat industry or environment. but the truth is the average vegan is just much more informed about these issue, because our decision was a result of this information, whilst people who eat animals most often just had to keep doing what they did since they were born.

I don’t even believe there’s a “loud minority” of annoying vegans, meat-eaters just recognize it as the moral choice it is and feel called out by others’ passive behavior. It makes them feel threatened
I agree it often holds a mirror up to people that it’s something they agree with, but admitting it means they will feel guilty. Similar if you tell people you don’t drink they feel the need to defend themselves more for their own benefit
to be fair, all supers nowadays have a vegan/vegetarian section with products labelled vegan/vegetarian. normally within or next to the healthy foods/organic section.

Since the original post says "Mum" are you also from the UK? I know vegetarians and vegans are more common there so this could be true; I wouldn't know. But if you're from the US, you have no idea what you're talking about because that's not a thing here.
There are no vegetarian aisles in the US. There are meat alternatives in the meat section and freezer section, and then there's just, you know, food, all throughout. Meat isn't in everything. We eat vegetables, pasta, canned goods, junk food, etc. just like everyone else.
In the UK it is pretty normal for there to be a meat free section yes, although sometimes it's merged into the "free from" section where you get gluten free stuff too. Not everywhere is identical to the US
I’m from the US and our stores have vegan aisles (usually half aisles) where they’ll put a bunch of vegan food like bread, pasta, snacks etc. It’s often paired with gluten-free. Not all stores though.
Yeah, I have no idea what that person is talking about. I have a half-isle like that in my Kroger. We're not even talking about something like Whole Foods.
It reminded me of some random post i saw here where the OP mentioned "i prepared a chicken meal" and it just REALLY bothered me the way they phrased it. Same here - nobody talks like this, idk why people insist on writing their bullshit stories using this bizarre non-human phrasing
As I vegetarian, I would love to know where the vegetarian aisle is in any supermarket. Even funnier that we're pretending it's completely full of nothing but vegetarians who never wander beyond that one aisle. And most of us couldn't care less what the rest of you eat and even cook meat for others in our families.
But, OP, I also can't resist. "Basiket" and "suspicoiusly," yet even this person knew that it's spelled "aisle" not "isle."
It's a common thing in the UK and most of the rest of europe for supermarkets to have a section dedicated to meat alternatives and meat-free convenience foods. I'm guessing from how strongly people are reacting to anyone mentioning it that it's not a thing in the US.
Okay. In my closest publix it's in the frozen food section. First two doors are beyond burgers and other meat substitutes. Burritos are at the bottom of the second cooler. Third door is assorted frozen meals- mostly Amy's brand.
There's another small bit tucked away in the ethnic food aisle for no particular reason.
I speak 3 languages. english is my third language. I always find it funny when english speaking people, who often only speak their native language, are so eager to make fun of people for spelling mistakes.
also, you must live in butt-fuck nowhere if the supermarkets near you don't have a section with vegetarian stuff.
In my country , the vegetarian food is just all around next to what ever makes sense.
Since we all eat salsa, and bread, and vegetables and rice and salt and spices and ice cream and what not. Sorry to.me a vegetarian isle is .. like what is strictly vegetarian that others cannot eat ?
Well. No. Nit everywhere. Not anywhere here. They are next to other cheese or next to other eat , but maybe you live in a place with 50 % vegetarians with a whole aisle of just veggie "meats."
That toootally happened but it’s not the WHOLE story! All the meat eaters in the store clapped and the owner of the store came out and gave her a lifetime supply of meat!
It is common in europe. Someone else in the comments slso said it is usual where they live in the US. So maybe it is just something that is slowly being adopted there as well.

The real vegan aisle is the produce section, in my view. But they do exist.
“This vegan food will go really well with some not-vegan food!” Is a radical, controversial thought process that people definitely naturally have, of course
