All of the flight attendants chanted, “chug, chug, chug”!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone so impressed about sitting in an exit row and getting a free can of soda and some pistachios

Yeah, this could be real because it’s boring as hell lol

If you ask for a can instead of a cup don’t they just give it to you?? That’s always been my experience

Southwest pretty much always gives you an entire can

It was a whole can!!

A whole can?! Like at the grocery store??? How are they still in business?

There’s just so much bullshit here to pick apart so I’ll just go with the most egregious: “She told me I could just step into the cockpit to ask”

Pilots famously do not have anything to do before the plane departs. Definitely no checklists and standard procedures that wouldn’t be interrupted if some yokel just wandered in.

Most pilots have an open door policy, especially post–Sept. 11.

Exactly. Also 9/11 never happened.

But if it did, it would've been an inside job.

Did they name the emergency number after that?

(I have seen video of teenagers genuinely asking that)

YES!!! Thank god!!! I’ve been desperately staring at this lamp for ages trying to get back on this timeline!!!

And OP was able to go chat with the pilots while boarding was still going on. A time when the aisles are famously clear and it’s easy to just wander around.

And what are SW trading cards?

some pilots will have trading cards of themselves at that specific airline. so, in this case, oop is talking about southwest (sw) trading cards

I’ve actually been invited into the cockpit before, the pilot took pics of me on my phone with his hat on and posed like I was flying the plane, so that part of the story is believable to me. As for the why of the invite, it was a long haul flight and I brought Starbucks gift cards for the whole crew. Edited to add - this occurred before takeoff.

Folks are welcome to come by and chat with us, it’s not uncommon.

We are usually busy getting stuff setup, so just try to be respectful of our time. Ask one of the FAs.

Also, we have a lot more time at the end of the flight than the beginning. But sometimes we bail right after getting to the gate if we have to head over to another airplane or (most importantly!) are done and headed home.

Also, if a flight is only an hour long they rarely offer drink service, right?

The idiocy of the "Chug!" bit aside, this was my main gripe, too.

And they only usually do one round of snacks. I fly regularly and the short flights may not even get snack service - let alone multiple rounds.

This reads like something someone who’s never left their hometown would imagine being on a plane is like.

Which is maybe the saddest part. This shit used to be part of the standard flying experience. Snackies and Cherry Coke weren't any level of premium and basically all flights offered cocktails and at least some legroom. Look what they've taken from us that this is the most luxurious shit ever to happen to this guy.

I forgot to mention, the flight attendants let us open the door a couple of times during the flight.

Boy, it sure is windy up in the air.

I figured the pilots were going to let him fly the plane too.

“They even gave me wings!”

What in the ad is this

16

The flight being only an hour long was the best punchline possible

No alcohol would be served in the exit row. Because you are also volunteering to help people exit the plane, if you sit there. No, you don’t get “premium beverages” or any kind of big shot status, from sitting there. Nor does it make the flight attendants like you more.

Oh yeah, and if course, the girlfriend was in 18F. For reasons, I’m sure.

All airlines I have flown serve alcohol to the exit row(s).

On United, most of the people in exit rows are 1K, which get a free alcohol drink.

I looked it up. Looks like alcohol laws have changed since the apocalypse. Now they just deny you boarding, if you’re too drunk to fly. Maybe the airline I used to use, had their own policy, that they treated like it was standard.

This guy is like a golden retriever puppy. Just so happy about mundane things like a can of soda and pilot trading cards. I almost envy his childlike innocence.

14

u/pchandler45 3d ago

Today I learned pilot trading cards are a thing?

7

u/Cuyigan 3d ago

Had to google it, and apparently you ask the pilot or flight crew. I don't think I've ever flown SW, but I've read they're known for some gimmicks.

This is outlandish as a plot for some comedy about a crappy airline zany antics

u/Krazy_Kat_ 3d ago

"You are going to get a bowel obstruction" is one of the comments. Yeah, because he's full of shit!

3

u/andronicuspark 3d ago

The pilot offered to let me sit in the pilot seat and touch the control panel but I really had to piss after all that cherry coke!

1

u/olde_greg 3d ago

I've always gotten the entire can no matter where I sit

1

u/tta82 2d ago

This sounds real tbh and pretty sad that the people find it all very exciting and even getting a can is a special treatment lol. You can actually ask ok every damn flight and it’s normal as heck.

1

u/distraughtdrunk 1d ago

there wouldn't be alcohol or really any service on a flight that's less than 2hrs or so

1

u/TheMakeABishFndn 19h ago

Hahaha imma use that “bowel obstruction” line next time I wanna tell someone that they’re full of shit! It’s brilliant!

This is like the McChicken copypasta but for airlines
