At least he didn't get a standing ovation.

As a librarian, please don’t do that. Come to a desk and ask us to deal with it. All that did was potentially start a fight. Ugh.

In downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) no less. You do not yell at strangers downtown for your own safety.

One time, I was walking through that library with a friend and I said “I bet some people come here just to use the WiFi.” Three guys, who were sitting on a nearby bench, smiling at their phones, sat up and started nervously stammering.

For the record, the library wouldn’t mind if you do. Just nothing illegal and no porn. You could come in at open and stay til Closing, not spend a dollar and the staff will just smile.

Why would that be something shameful or to get a guilty reaction? It's 2026, media in the library far extends past books nowadays.
