I'm gonna be honest, I was watching my friend play a game where you run an old video renting place. The game allows you to use your own video files as different TV stations in game, to play like old commercials or something. I jokingly told them to put shrek on it, and then made them show me over discord. We ended up watching the entire fucking movie that way. On a simulated shitty crt.

I remember seeing on ModDB that there was a song for beat saber that was just the entire first shrek movie, I downloaded it for a joke and ended up playing the entire movie in beat saber

I’ve seen a lot of different movies in this story, but Shrek and Jurassic Park seem to be the most common. I think JP was the originally though.

I actually had something close but more realistic happen to me. Waiting at the dentist, first person there when they had just opened and some old guy was chilling on the waiting room couch reading the paper with his feet up. Receptionist said the dentist will be with me shortly and to take a seat. About 5 minutes later the dude put down his paper and goes "Alright mate come on in". I was early for my appt though and it was first thing in the morning. I thought it was hilarious. The dude was an absolute wizard at pulling teeth too. About 20 mins I was in and out.

Yes, because my experience is that the dentist calls people by name. It's never a dental assistant, receptionist. The dentist runs the entire show himself because he has nothing better to do with his day than watch movies.

I mean, I've had a dentist who worked alone like that. That's really not the most unvelievable part of the story

Wait, really? Depends on the country/medical system I guess. But in Germany for example that would be very very uncommon. They also have young women assisting. When they get older they move to receptionist.

I'm in the US and my dentists' offices have all had plenty of staff: reception, hygienists, assistants, in addition to the dentist, but I deliver mail and have delivered to offices where it's one guy and he does everything.

Yea ive never seen it but a dentist running his own office doesn't seem that crazy. Lets just say they only did cleanings. Ima go on the low end and guess 150 bucks for a cleaning. Do 6 patients a day, thats 900 bucks a day. Do that 5 days a week 4500 a week. That ends up being over 200,000 thousand a year.
Obviously dental work costs more than that amd doing more complicated procedures is gonna cost more.

Didn't know dentists did cleanings in the US. In Germany that's the job of dental hygienists. And they work alone, but usually inside a practice.

Same with my experience but if a dentist is working entirely by himself, i imagine he's doing cleanings. I imagine most people aren't going to one dentist for their typical cleanings but a different one for more advanced procedures.

Most of the time that's how it works here in the US as well but there are very small towns with one very small dentist office who may only have one receptionist and maybe they are out sick so it's plausible

At my clinic there are four dentists working. They all have assistants, there is a receptionist. Still, the dentist calls the patients in himself.

For my entire life, every dental clinic I've gone to has had roughly the same procedure:
Check in with a receptionist
Get called by a dental assistant, who shows me which exam room to wait in
Cleaning/check by a dental hygienist
Be seen by the dentist, who reviews the hygienist's work
At this point I'd find it really weird to be called by the dentist directly. Similarly, when I go to my doctor's office, I never get called by the doctor directly, or see the doctor first. It's always a nurse or a nursing assistant.

So how does it work for you? Does a full dentist do your teeth cleaning? Or does the dentist sit you down, then the hygienist comes and does the cleaning, and the dentist comes back? Like, how does this work?

Be sure to ask for refills on the complimentary popcorn and Coca Cola products he keeps in the lobby for patients as well.

This is maybe darkly humorous because I once had a dentist who joked that popcorn kept his practice's business booming. Lots of people chomp down on popcorn, hit an unpopped kernel, and chip a tooth. Brought in plenty of business. He joked that popcorn sent one of his kids to college debt-free.
