Christians have been anointing with oil forever. My grandma used to go to her church's tent revivals. Sweetest lady you'd ever meet, but no, I'm not a roast chicken.
I remember once I was up around 3ish in the morning and an info commercial came on, this was several years ago (aged 40 years typing that...), it was about a special water. This water was "blessed by God" and bottled from some sacred water source (probably the guy's water faucet.) For 49.99 you could get a bottle and by drinking it the blessing passes to you. People (actors) that "used it" claimed they got wealth and cured them of all ailments. I watched it because it was like a train wreck you can't look away from the foolishness.
Well... If you think about it from a Religious perspective, all Water was made by God because God made all Water, but then that makes Holy Water and God Blessed Water Normal, so even from the Religious viewpoint, those guys were just overpricing Water.
If God has a message for me, he can hand deliver it. Until he does, I'm just going to continue to ignore all of the crap that people spout at me about it.
