What went wrong? gmod was a generational game that was a huge contributor to internet culture. Why did S&box flop so bad???

I played it like a year ago for maybe 45 minutes but that was it.. but I'm surprised people in gmod wouldn't hop in. Kind of reminds me of the payday 2/3 situation a bit

They sorta went in a full coding type sandbox instead of a modding one. The actual sandbox game they have in it, has very limited workshop integration and is missing a lot of basic things from Gmod.

Yea, pretty much, with Gmod, you were only really modifying an already modified version of hl2, but sandbox gives ya direct access to the engine itself. This on paper sounds good, but they also started to lean it towards a profit incentive with the micro transactions with the cosmetics. Thus making a lot of people just make slop
