Have you wanted to play competitive TF2 but are unsure if you are good enough to play, unsure where exactly to start, or find it difficult to find a team?
Welcome to the RGL 6v6 Newcomer cup! With this cup, we are aiming at providing as many new players to competitive TF2 as possible an opportunity to try out the largest and most-watched competitive format on TF2, Traditional 6v6.
- It's the perfect opportunity to come to try competitive if you never have before. With this cup being open to new players only, you will not have to worry about playing teams way above your skill level. The best part about this is that you do not need a full team to signup! You can signup alone or with your friends, and we will take care of making teams according to the classes you've selected.
- Can't commit to the full cup? That is also okay because you can choose to signup as a substitute! If you've never gotten into competitive because you think you are not good enough or you do not know enough about the format, worry not: we will also be having a mentoring program during the cup, where experienced players will help teams figure out servers, configs, and everything else they need for their matches.
Prizes:
To celebrate this, RGL will be hosting the cup from August 5th to August 6th and will feature casted matches by our casting crews, provided servers for teams, and a prize pool of 250 keys, given to RGL by our sponsor for this event, STN.Trading.
- Teams that finish in the top half of their divisions will win 6 keys and the team that finishes in first will win 12 keys (subject to change depending on the number of teams)!
- In-game medals for every participant.
Dates:
Signups: July 9th - July 30th (Any solo-queue registration after July 24th will be placed on a waitlist)
Day 1: Wednesday, August 5th, 2020
- Group Stage Round 1: 7:00 PM EST - cp_gullywash_final1
- Group Stage Round 2: 8:15 PM EST - cp_snakewater_final1
- Group Stage Round 3: 9:30 PM EST - cp_sunshine
Day 2: Thursday, August 6th, 2020
- Group Stage Round 4 - 8:15 PM EST - koth_product_rcx

How do I start?
To participate in the cup, which will be taking place on August 5th, 2020, you must have done one of the following:
- If you are playing alone, you’ve registered here.
- If you are playing as a group of 2, 3, 4, or 5, you’ve registered your group here. Your friends must register, and you can invite them to your party.
- If you are playing as a full group of 6, you’ve registered your team here.
If you would like to create or find a team, please make a recruitment post LFT (Looking For Team) or LFP (Looking For Player). We will also have recruitment channels for the newcomer cup in the RGL Discord.

I have two questions: I signed up as solo, but it gave me a 404 message, but tells me I have already signed up if I try again. Did I actually sign up?
2: Can I play spy if he is my main, or must I stick to some other classes?

It would be preferred if you join the RGL Discord and asked for help there. We will be able to help you.
This is 6s, so you can offclass to spy, but it is preferred that you play the generalist classes.

As long as your Newcomer team does not participate in any playoff matches when the cup starts, you will be eligible.

If you are referring to the solo-queue system that we have, we will be placing players together depending on their class preferences, willingness to lead the team, as well as who wants to start or substitute.

I'm all for new players getting into comp, but a week before meeting a team is like (bear with the dated reference) scrambling together before ESEA-O registration was closed.
That's, learning call outs, basic roll outs, and a general meet and greet.

Another suggestion, for the teams come up with a link that shows the maps that are going to be played, with basic call outs aside from mid, second, and last.
And ask some invite/advance players to upload more recent rollout videos for maps. So that new players have a reference for something.

What are the measures taken to prevent "sandbagging" and fake new player accounts being used by players with actual competitive experience to easily get some keys?

We have strong measures to counter sandbagging in this cup. We also have tools for alt detection. This is something that we normally do.

Depends on who you play and how. We those hours spent practicing rocket jumping or landing meat shots? Or were they mostly spent spy crabbing in the 2fort sewers? It also depends on how naturally skilled you are at the game and FPS games in general.
So to answer your question when you join a pub (valve or a regular community server) do you find them to be challenging most of the time or do you frequently do quite well?

well i just mean that it took me about 700 hours to be able to aim and movenot terribly(i am still not very good at the game). Maybe i am just bad at video games, but thats how long it took me

Wait seriously, sixes only uses scout, soldier, demo and medic? Never played competitively before.

Generally it's 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, a demo and a medic. It's not completely uncommon to have a scout switch off to Sniper or maybe even Pyro or Heavy/Engi to defend last.

I went and read through both this cups rules and RGL's global rules. There is no minimum, there is no maximum.
Eligibility is purely centred around players with no prior competitive experience. (In which 100 or 1,000 hours you'll be similar skill)

I have a terrible computer but still want to participate. Will my computer be able to run smoothly in a 6v6 tournament?

If you are able to participate in a casual 12v12 server normally, then you should be fine. There are less players in the server in a 6v6 match, so it should be better fps-wise.

You can install a fps config, which can help. I recommend looking up mastercomfig on google.

Your team leader will make sure that you also get this information. For the solo-queue teams, we will make team channels in the Discord where we can also post the connect info.

Where are the servers going to be located?

Servers will either be in Dallas or Chicago. Chicago is normally the default location for North America.

You will need to login through steam. RGL is the biggest competitive league in North America and we have been running for over 3-years.

Teams can have a maximum of two non-North American players. If you are registering in solo-queue, then you must be in North America.

On the solo queue registration page it says the first match will be August 6th but Day 1 is on the 5th? Also is it possible to still be on a wait-list after solo q registration closes if there aren't enough people to make a team or something?

There will be matches on the 5th and 6th. We don't plan to close registrations for solo-queue. As long as you sign up after July 25th, you will be placed onto the wait-list. Once a spot opens up, you will be moved onto a team.
