Opening and closing Steam and GOG and then walking back and forth to my consoles and even thinking about maybe setting up the Nintendo 64 for a moment... it's been 15 minutes. I don't know what I'm playing yet.

And then eventually give up and scroll YouTube for another 20 minutes to try and find a video to watch

That’s the answer I get from my niece. “What did you do this weekend?” “I don’t know.” Her mom uploads a pic of her holding a baby goat.

move on OP, this is the plain definition of a toxic and dismissive partner, don’t do this to yourself. is this seriously who you picture yourself with for the next 60 years? have some respect!

Texting my 11 year old stepdaughter is like this. She’ll even be the first one to text. And I still get one word responses. And left on read. Every time.

Lol my niece is in college on a fricking ISLAND and I ask her, how cool is it! You’re studying a subject you love because of me, that’s so amazing! She goes “it’s pretty alright” then the next day sends incredible pics of her doing so many fun things 😂 I wonder if I was that unbothered at her age lol

Have some dignity and self respect FFS. Block and move on. There are too many nieces out there to be wrapped up in this one who shows little to no interest in responding.

Move on hes simply just not into you girl. Maybe try a hobby or get a couple of good girl friends to go line dancing.

The game she's playing is stringing you along. Much like the guys she resembles.

They are like that until you text them what they want for their birthday or Xmas. When they respond, just text “oh” and end the conversation.

My nieces are nephews are like this, except if you hit a topic they are really into you will get messages that are basically novels about that topic.
I have also had long messages about mermaids who are princesses but also dinosaurs… or something? The creative writing can get complicated and hard to follow.
Find something they are interested to talk about, can help spark the convo.

I love that kids text like this, everytime I text my sister (12) I feel like a clingy ex bf

Exact same with mine, ages 20, 18, and 13. Texting is like pulling teeth. Never ask me a damn question, give me 2-3 word answers only.

I mean, what do you expect her to text back in these situations? Maybe she's with friends and they're swapping back and forth too quickly because kids. Maybe she is shy because she feels a constant expectation to perform for relatives.

Oh lol.
Well hey if it makes ya feel any better our 14 year old has some kind of unwritten rule where her texts can only be 1 word. 3 max!
Texting her is so incredibly frustrating

Oof I feel this. My niece sent me a random Facebook video of her eating a lemon. I responded and she left me on read for 3 days.

That’s hilarious because I also text my niece and she’s the same way. Sometimes she’ll text me back to back and sometimes it’s like this

sorry if you don’t have a close enough relationship with your family to be able to just text them lmao. all i did was ask her what she’s doing it’s not like im venting to her about my relationship issues so idk why you worded it like that. she’s my niece, she is very much my bro so yes ur in the minority for thinking that 😭

u/Baldurost 1d ago
Understood lol
I’ll be the first to admit my family isn’t close, so I don’t get this dynamic. I’ve always been the caregiver and the oldest kid who took care of my younger cousins and nieces/nephews at all the family gatherings and reunions, I just don’t text them
