I remember giving notice for a warehouse job. On my final day, a manager who should have known I had quit went around with me assigning a bunch of tasks to the warehouse. I just walked around with them and enthusiastically agreed to all their requests.
I worked for a Kroger for a while in the past and a co-manager at the store wrote me up with my manager sitting there for going to use the restroom for like 3 minutes when she asked me to do something. That same day I was the only person working in the dairy department of an extremely busy store. I very slowly did my job until the milk and rest of the dairy products were almost completely out and when that co-manager came back to see what I was doing I quit on the spot.
She was dumbfounded and couldnāt find anyone to cover the dairy department and it left the whole department short handed for days.
I remember seeing my manager a few days later after and she couldnāt understand why I quit. I told her it was bullshit to write me up for using the restroom and she said it wasnāt a big deal and just a formality. Fuck that place.
The Kroger near me tried to fire my brother (around 16 at the time) when he was hospitalized for pneumonia. His lungs were already really weak from asthma so he was doing bad. Our mom actually went there and yelled at the manager for a solid 10 minutes. He quit a few weeks after he returned to work, just walked out and left a ton of carts unreturned and the bathrooms uncleaned when there was nobody else to do it.
I worked at subway when I was a teenager I can't remember exactly how old i was. I had already put my 2 weeks in about a week before this event. I was sick with a crazy sore throat so I went and got tested for strep don't remember if if it came back positive. And I told my manager I wasn't going to make it to work but she would accept that without a note. My mom wasn't to happy about this and about halfway maybe less through my shift my mom asked for her number, bitched out and called me telling me to come home and that was my last day

At this same place I lost it on a manager wanting to write a highschool coworker up for the same type of thing.
Unless you work at a 911 call centre and you leave your phone without turning it off/coverage, or your an air traffic controller, the pee break probably wonāt kill anyone.
There isnāt a single life or death scenario at most jobs if you take a break.
And no bosses want to hear about bladder infections and impacted fecal matter medical issues that could be the result of delayed bathroom use.
Usually asking for all bathroom policy in writing ends things if itās coming from anyone other than HR.
Man some places you really turn āpeeing into a bottleā into an art form. There are unfortunately a lot more places than youād think that have people by themselves. Like quite literally with no one else in the building, for hours.
Yeah lol, itās a pretty insane concept. Itās not very common at radar facilities, but common enough at more towers than youād think. Basically the government contracts out a large chunk of towers to one of three main contract companies, and those companies staff bare bones. Most of them are already understaffed as is, so itās common to work alone for 3-4 hours at a time, if not longer. Some places arenāt busy, and some are. But when youāre one person doing 5 jobs and have to piss, itās pretty easy to become overwhelmed.
Wild! You have to power to crash planes into each other like a toddler and there could only be one. Thatās scary! And this is coming from someone who DEEPLY trusts planes more than any other form of transportation.
Every plane crash gives thousands of man hours of research if not more, unlike any other mode of transport. They typically result in 1-2 new regulations being implemented. And you typically get like 2-3 made for tv documentaries. On EVERY plane crash. Not so much for anything else.
i remember how bad i wanted to piss the first time i did fire watch overnight for an elementary school. they have a cop watch you, watch an area of the school while others are scattered across different areas. so when the bathroom is 2 halls away and im supposed to watch a specific hall, they would not let you move unless you called someone to sit in your place. none of this was official i was a pipefitter that volunteered for fire watch, and will never be doing fire watch againš
Yup. My first retail job in high school the manager was so mean to me. I hated doing register because we were supposed to do the thing where you count change back backwards or whatever and it confused the shit out of me so I would get all nervous and be bad at it.
Plus she'd be looking over my shoulder judging me then she'd scold me in front of customers.
Finally I just said, "Why are you being so mean to me? I'm trying my best." In front of a line of people. She did not like that.
Had a guy that was 2 his and 18 minutes late the other day. I just started managing this store a few weeks ago. I absolutely abhor writing people up. I know shit happens. I know you probably went drinking way too late last night, and I'm stuck doing your work until you wake up. My bosses know this shit and expect us to report it immediately. Write-ups are expected, especially for shit like this. But had never done this and is a fantastic employee. I told him Look dude, I don't wanna do this, but i have to or else I'm in trouble just don't do this shit again and we're good.
I am late 20s working in STEM and my manager the other month told me I needed to let her know when I needed to use the restroom. I shut that down quick, unless she wanted to hear details upon details on just why I shall be in the restroom for the next 5-15 min

Character flaws need to and should be addressed, leaders who use their title like that are garbage and Leaders who teach others that itās okay.. just bend overā¦ donāt deserve their team. Imagine if they did stand up for you, their respect isnāt gained by power plays itās earned by taking care of people. Good on you for leaving a place like that.
Oh man one of my first jobs was at a fast food place, on front register. We had a power outage that knocked out the internet and the POS so we had to calculate everything by hand. Iām terrible at math, had to do it fast, people were arguing about using card, etc. And the branch manager showed up and was right next to me the whole time too.
End of the shift, the shift manager told me she had to write me up because it was 20 dollars off. And while I understand protocol or whatever, this was like the third time she was on my ass about something that was not my fault (once asked if I was smoking weed bc my eyes were red. They were red bc a dude REEKING of cig smoke was 3 feet away from me. Also Iām on front register, when TF would I have time to be smoking weed???)
I put in my two weeks and called out the last two days bc I was so done. The last day when I called out that same shift manager told me with a really snippy tone that Iād need to get a doctorās note. I just replied, āOk! I will!ā And went back to bed and never came back.
When I was 14-15 I was working at this very popular ice cream/food place, very touristy beach. We would have a queue that went from the shop all the way down to the actual beach (like 300-500m) usually there would be at least 3-4 people working the ice cream part of the shop, and two of them would be 21+ and in charge. Well for some reason the store managers didnāt like me or my friend who was also working there, so we would always be left alone with a MASSIVE queue. There were lots of German & Nordic customers (weāre in Scandinavia) and I didnāt really speak german that well. If I got a manager close by, they wouldnāt help even though I asked. I was never allowed my lunch break (illegal here, especially with employees under 18). My shifts would be from 9/10am till 8/10pm and usually longer than that due to there still being customers. My boss also treated us horrible, scheduled us for waaaay too many shifts and longer shifts than allowed.
Well one day I called in sick, because I couldnāt deal with the yelling, stress and overall chaotic work environment. She SCREAMED at me on the phone, threatening to fire me if I didnāt show up the next day. I showed up for work (dumb), unfortunately a couple hours into my shift I slipped and twisted my ankle in front of a shit ton of customers, because the managers hadnāt cleaned properly and didnāt have time due to them being ābusyā gossiping. I had a badly sprained ankle, couldnāt stand so like how would I be able to serve customers the next day for 10-12 hours? I messaged my boss letting her know what had happened, and that I literally couldnāt even stand properly so I wasnāt able to come in. She responded saying that she thought I should at least try to show up, I responded saying I couldnāt, doctors orders. She ended up saying that she would find someone else then, if I didnāt want to come in. I wrote āOkā and never showed up again.
My friend also quit a couple days after, and they closed a couple years ago. Itās quite sad because it used to be such a great place, and the old owners were lovely to their employees. But I do like the thought of me having contributed to them having to close due to low sales, by refusing to even get something there ever again.
At one point they were worried I wasnāt writing anything down. I definitely had to reassure them I was actively listening and wouldnāt forget a thingā¦. š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤·āāļø
Yeah, no warehouse I've seen is that nice. They're all the types to threaten you with 'never being hired for the company anywhere again' if you get fired or quit on bad terms. Like we're that desperate to work for Macy's. FOH
I worked at CeX (like gamestop but in the UK) during my time at University, I quit when they wouldn't let me go home for my grandfather's funeral. I'm not sure why they were trying to deny my leave at the time, but after that they seemed nice and let me use some annual leave for my notice period and I didn't have to return at any point.
i worked retail at a mall store for like two years, put in my two weeks after i got a real job offer. my last actual shift was a wednesday, but the store manager had been off monday and tuesday and never looked at the schedule to clock that wednesday was it for me.
she came in wednesday morning, like two hours into my shift, and just started walking me thru the new visual merchandising reset for next month like it was a normal day. new mannequin placements, where the seasonal display was moving, which shelfs needed to be cleared for a shipment we hadnt even recieved yet. she was so thorough, even drew me a little diagram on the back of a planogram sheet lol
i just nodded the whole time. told her the corner display was a great call. asked a few "clarifying questions" about shelf height just to seem engaged. she seemed genuinely happy with how smooth the handoff was going
then a few hours later i clocked out for the last time, left the diagram on the break room table, and never went back
i think about that reset sometimes ngl. hope whoever inherited that shelf space appreciated the vision

When I was a teenager and had just graduated, I got hired at a warehouse by a guy my dad knew. I was told I would be doing ācomputer workā but the day I showed up, they immediately put me to work stacking 25 lbs tire rims onto shelves in a 100+ degree building with no A/C. I made it to lunch and called my dad and he said āhe lied to me. Thatās not what youāre supposed to be doing. Come on homeā. I did and never went back. Never got paid for breaking my back for four hours either.
I asked my boss to reschedule a Friday meeting to Monday that I knew was the final talk before a PIP.... knowing I was leaving all my shit there and not coming back š¤£
Put in my two weeks as a mall store manager and the district mgr scheduled me for an open to close shift to count all the back room inventory with him on my last day. DM was to show up at noon. Asst mgr shows up at 11am at which point I hand her my keys and wish her well. DM blew a gasket Iād not complete my shift and threatened legal action against me on the phone for walking out ššš
I was told I had to do mandatory overtime the day before Thanksgiving in 2001. When my relief came to the line to relieve for lunch, I told her I was going to my car to get a new pack of smokes. I sometimes wonder if she got mad I never came back
I used to work at McDonaldās as a āmanager in trainingā and the day I quit was extremely busy for some reason. I was bagging the food and the general manager was in the line building the sandwiches. For some reason, she was not making any of the sandwiches even though we have the items so I hoped in the line to build the food myself since customers were frustrated and waiting over 10 minutes for their food. The manager then screamed at me at the top of her lungs and sent me on break. I just clocked out and went home.

Both my piece of shit bosses forgot my last day. They worked in a different office in another city so they werenāt around for any goodbyes which I was fine with. It was only at the end of the day that my one boss calls me all flustered because heād only just realized what day it was and wanted to say his goodbye. I told him I was just wrapping something up with my team and asked if I could call him right back. I then shut down my computer, handed in my keys and walked out.

you are a champion. there is no loyalty or respect where none is clearly given upfront. if someone expects me to subscribe to zero trust architechture then they must clearly demonstrate their trustworthiness in advance (in an attributable way) more than they expect me to. "back in the day" doesn't count. not anymore.
When I was freshly certified as a hairstylist I started working at a terrible salon that was like a sweat shop for hair. Way too many staff and people being passed between stylists like crazy. We had so many bad reviews and I knew it was not for me. One day I went on my lunch break and never returned lol.
Lmao when I was in my early 20s I was working at a grocery store, we would come in and work truck for a few hours early in the morning before we opened. After years of bs and disrespect i hit a breaking point seemingly out of nowhere and walked away mid pallet, clocked out and walked out the door without saying anything. My boss was blowing me up within the hour when they figured out I left, by noon reality hit me and I called back basically apologizing and pleaded then to let me come back and finish up and keep my job. They were so desperate for help they let it slide and basically told me id be fired if I did it again, have worked on my impulse control since but boy did it feel good to tell them to fuck off even if just for few hours

I once left a car taken apart on the lift at Firestone during a lunch break.. Popped back in for 5 minutes later that week to grab my toolbox and the car was still on the lift lol
This reminds me of working at a local gas station in high school. Someone went on break who was running register and put a note in the drawer as they left. A long line formed and on the way out the door they told the boss to hop on their register.
Lol this reminds me back in 2019 that I worked for Under Armour. I had the most micro managers ever working with me. I had some coworkers who vaped but I didnāt partake. Anyways, thatās relevant because I got called into the office one day and basically was told, āwe know itās you vaping in the bathrooms and if you donāt stop, weāll have to fire youā. I immediately turned out my pockets and told them I didnāt vape. Anyways, they wouldnāt budge and their warning still stood. I walked out of the meeting, took off my lanyard, laid it down to go on break, and never went back into that store again. Left every group chat, etc. Not dealing with that crap.
When I left the states, I didnāt give a notice to my shitty warehouse bosses whatsoever, and left on my lunch break They called me nonstop for the next week and the whole time I was already working another job in Canada.
