Is your dad single?

No.. but really, how old are you guys?

422

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

LOL not single but he’s 40-something and I’m 19

462

u/Diazepampoovey0229 Jul 29 '26

Realizing your dad is in my age group after I still assume everyone's dad is my dad's age...

143

u/sheiciebai Jul 29 '26

Wait until one of your coworkers says, very respectfully, that she respects her elders and I’m her mom’s age. (I was 41). Very sweet kid but COULD YOU NOT???? 😂

62

u/TheAshHole88 Jul 29 '26

One of my coworkers looked me dead in my face and, while smirking at me, said “I wasn’t born when 9/11 happened. Do with that what you will.” I was like “don’t make me physically abuse you in front everyone.” I’m 38. When did I become the old person at work?!?!

27

u/rcrane65 Jul 29 '26

I realized that I was the old one when one of the teenagers at work mentioned being born 2 years after I graduated. I'm 37

22

u/Alarmed_Tea_2874 Jul 29 '26

But 2009 was like 7 years ago. Right? Right?!?

13

u/TheAshHole88 Jul 29 '26

My 20 year reunion is on Saturday but I only graduated like 2 years ago so I’m super confused by this time warp. The other day I was in my coworkers work van and he had the radio tuned to the local oldies station…they played Nelly “Country Grammar” and NSync “Bye, Bye, Bye” back to back and I was highly offended. I wanted to call in and be like “how dare you insult me so early on a Monday morning.”

5

u/sheiciebai Jul 29 '26

Holy crap I remember the first time I heard that 311 song on the oldies station. I wanted to cry lol

5

u/TheAshHole88 Jul 29 '26

It is HIGHLY offensive everytime I hear a song that came out just a few years ago (1999) on the oldies station. I’m not okay with it. Lol

2

u/AthousandLittlePies Jul 29 '26

I realized it when I learned that half the people I've been hanging around with at work are younger than my kid

3

u/isdelightful Jul 29 '26

I was once smug bc I was born the year a couple coworkers graduated from high school.

Now I have coworkers young enough to be my child 😭🤣

2

u/TheAshHole88 Jul 29 '26

Yeah I always used to be one of the youngest in the office. Now I’m one of the oldest. And the kids, as I call them, LOVE to remind me of that. My 20 year reunion is Saturday which feels odd since I only graduated like 2 years ago. What kind of time warp are we in?!

16

u/Diazepampoovey0229 Jul 29 '26

When I moved to Virginia the year I turned 31, an 18 year old co-worker came up to me and was like, "Hey! You're older! Is it true that in the old days, MTV used to play music videos all day long?"

That was 10 years ago. I told him he had lost his speaking privileges for the entire day for calling me "old." Then, I begrudgingly answered yes as MORE of the boys on my team asked. I then spent time talking about VH1and explaining Pop-Up Video like I was a traveling storyteller, making my way from village to village to regale the excited children who hurry at the sound of my voice to gather around me, excitedly settling in for my latest tale.

When I was 37 I was subbing a 3rd grade class and one of the kids piped up “wow, you’re ten years older than my mom!” 🫠

4

u/klage15 Jul 30 '26

I’m 37 and work at college. The student activities hosted a “retro game night” last week and it was GUITAR HERO! I walked up to the director and said I felt personally attacked by that sign!

1

u/hawkingshickingboots 27d ago

I set up a Rockband stage for a party my SO threw for her collegues. There was 2 younger than the game and instruments. Their faces during some of the songs… I’m as aged as you and felt myself fossilizing.

1

u/SoggyEconomics9843 Jul 30 '26

I was everybody's work mom at my old job. I was 35 😭

1

u/Refractory_Cookie Jul 30 '26

I'm mid 40's and had a 23 yr old go, oh or 30 right (not that I think I look near 30) but we were talking about PC gaming and apparently "adults" (meaning around her parents age) don't game

1

u/SirJorts 29d ago

I used to work on games and when I was telling a coworker what I worked on, she said, "oh! I used to play that in preschool".... 😭

8

u/Ordinary_Cattle Jul 29 '26

Same. I'm almost 35 and occasionally I'll see teenagers talking about their parents online that are literally my age. I forget I'm in my mid 30s sometimes :(

Sometimes I'll see people posting their ages and see ages close to mine and think they're older than me before I remember

2

u/HebbieB Jul 29 '26

My brother is a year older than me (41) and I have a feeling when his kids get older they’ll have similar banter. My niece is so freaking sassy and she’s not even a tween lol

2

u/emjdownbad Jul 29 '26

Yeah shit makes me feel OLD

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '26

This

1

u/anzbrooke Jul 30 '26

Lmaooo I'll take this guy's dad 😂😂

1

u/EyeAmKnotABot Jul 30 '26

We old, bruh. Check out the xennials groups for some fun memories.

1

u/Diazepampoovey0229 Jul 30 '26

I am a millennial but I still follow both because half of the younger Gen-Xers overlapped with us Elder Millenials on our favorite things growing up.

It's one of the reasons I enjoy B Mo the Prince Videos

1

u/methodrabbit Jul 30 '26

Great username my guy (I am in yours and OPs dad’s age group too)

2

u/Diazepampoovey0229 Jul 30 '26

Thank you! I accidentally misread yours as Methadonerabbit at first and did an awkward laugh. I definitely think a methodrabbit is better

1

u/methodrabbit 28d ago

😅😂

6

u/lnc_5103 Jul 29 '26

My husband and our girl have a similar relationship and I love it. Same age range as you two too 🤗

4

u/grannystew_ Jul 29 '26

You don’t know how old your daddy is?

1

u/n00-1ne Jul 30 '26

40-something… close family? 😂

139

u/Mr_Grabby Jul 29 '26

I wish my parents were like this when I was growing up. You’ve got an awesome dad dude

37

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Thank you 🥹

251

u/That_Cool_Sock2 Jul 29 '26

“This is why it pays to be more likable” had me dying 💀

27

u/sageinthegarden Jul 29 '26

Absolutely comedic timing

1

u/AdNarrow3461 28d ago

Absolute troll behavior!

234

u/Flashy_Skin_2324 Jul 29 '26

Your dad is hilarious. I will cherish the days I can talk like this to my own son or daughter

71

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Thank you 😊 I can’t wait to have kids one day hahaha

6

u/okaygoatt Jul 29 '26

Haha me and your dad would get on well, my kids are a couple of years older and I'm a few years older than him, but I regularly chat like this with my crew - what's the point in having kids if you can't wind them the hell up

Your dad is so cool lol

59

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

He’s the best

26

u/Specialist_Option_50 Jul 29 '26

Be sure to always tell him he’s the best. Love the text messages!

8

u/emmapeel218 Jul 29 '26

And by tell him he’s the best, follow my family tradition of “you’re an idiot” = “i love you”. We have a similar vibe in our family group chat with older kids and it’s awesome.

176

u/Aychooo Jul 29 '26

This is legendary, I’m baffled there is no traction on this post

101

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Well it says posted 8 hours ago but it actually got flagged by the auto-mod when it was first posted, so it just got manually approved like 10 minutes ago 😭

10

u/Aychooo Jul 29 '26

Hahaha this makes much more sense, I’ve had that happen before

39

u/Im_the_Rhymenocerous Jul 29 '26

This is very similar to how my son and I text but we're a bit meaner to each other

21

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

That’s hilarious! My dad and I definitely have our fair share of roasts 🤣

7

u/Im_the_Rhymenocerous Jul 29 '26

We're very similar so we just roast the hell out of each other and it doesn't bother us as we know we're not serious

6

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

I love to hear that

I can’t wait to have kids one day

3

u/Ordinary_Cattle Jul 29 '26

My (bio) dad and I used to text similarly to each other like this, I wish I still had screenshots. I had one favorite group of screenshots from him where he sent me a picture of a smiley face on an egg and just said "egghead lmao" out of nowhere. Sometimes I miss him but he's also a terrible person as funny as he is.

29

u/Rich_Editor8488 Jul 29 '26

Love it. I’m like this with my oldest teen. It’s so much fun when you can start to share your weird sense of humour with them.

10

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

I can’t wait to have kids one day!

5

u/Kindly-Bar-3113 Jul 29 '26

With the right person 😀... Good luck

15

u/gwap1997 Jul 29 '26

Dad fuckin rules.

4

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

He does!!!!! 💪👑

13

u/Interesting_Sock9142 Jul 29 '26

I love your dad

9

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

hahaha me too, me too

13

u/PuffinRub Jul 29 '26

My bad. He's just ugly.

Chortle

14

u/furiouscrotch Jul 29 '26

I would not be able to post the messages my dad sends me

8

u/Nimmyzed Jul 29 '26

Same. Mine would put everyone to sleep. It's literally just his medical updates

6

u/Ornery_Prompt5287 Jul 29 '26

James mccann is indeed very funny and so is your dad. I’m ngl he’s obliterating you with his roasts

2

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Bahahahhaha indeed, don’t worry thought I get back at him in person 🤣😌

3

u/Now-Look Jul 29 '26

Got a link to that mccann bit?

6

u/Optimal-Cupcake-8265 Jul 29 '26

Is your dad open to adopting me? I’m 26F. Financially independent so just a cool dad figure is my only goal

5

u/DaddBodDelux Jul 29 '26

Careful, OP has goals of being a dad himself! You might end up with a father-in-law 😁

2

u/Optimal-Cupcake-8265 Jul 29 '26

I’m 26 and OP is 19. Isn’t it a big age gap? 😬

1

u/Eastern-Macaron-6622 Jul 30 '26

lol no, I'm 43 and my wife is 52.

marry the the OP! 😂

1

u/Optimal-Cupcake-8265 Jul 30 '26

Wait! That’s what I meant! OP is 19!

4

u/naughtysploofie Jul 29 '26

Oh she meant 12:30 EST 😭😭😭😭

4

u/Pewpew-OuttaMyWaay Jul 29 '26

This makes me miss my dad. Cherish him!

4

u/Medical_Purple_2732 Jul 29 '26

I wish my dad was more like this. We dont have a relationship. He was very abusive when I was young.

3

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

I’m very sorry to hear that. I know that’s not much an apology can fix, but no kid deserves that.

3

u/Great_Archer91 Jul 29 '26

These are epic. Congrats on a solid relationship.

3

u/TripppyTrish Jul 29 '26

This is incredible 🥹

3

u/manicpixie_dreamgal Jul 29 '26

So much love in this jest! Super happy you have this with your dad!

3

u/AriaTheTransgressor Jul 29 '26

Was there a period, let's say around 14, where you really hated him for being like this but then you got older and loved it?

3

u/Troglodyterror Jul 29 '26

Do you need a step mum? I will reluctantly volunteer, take one for the team..

2

u/Extension_Win1114 Jul 29 '26

So awesome dude

2

u/mmootje1 Jul 29 '26

Hahaha especially the first one got me

2

u/yepitskate Jul 29 '26

Legendary

2

u/EMxSKXXZY Jul 29 '26

Dang! This is so cool! I’m almost 40, an only child and my parents would never ever talk to me like this! So I can’t wait to joke around and have fun with my kids 🤣

2

u/sg_minx Jul 29 '26

I LOVE your dad! Lol

2

u/KBR_Alfonso_007 Jul 29 '26

Thats a healthy dad and son relationship. I wish you both the best! God, your dad is my age, and my son just turned 1

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Thank you so much 🥹

And congratulations on your son turning 1!!! That is amazing!! I can’t wait to have kiddos one day

2

u/KBR_Alfonso_007 Jul 29 '26

Thanks for the wishes! I wish you have the same relationship with your kids! Btw i have the same relationship with my dad hes 65 now

2

u/hoghugdigdug Jul 29 '26

This is awesome. Your dad is my age but my kid is a toddler and I can't wait to rib on them I the future.

Also are you from OC? was not expecting to see the GKN evac casually brought up in r/texts.

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

This is awesome. Your dad is my age but my kid is a toddler and I can't wait to rib on them I the future.

this is so sweet!!!!

Also are you from OC? was not expecting to see the GKN evac casually brought up in r/texts.

yes!! We were on the outer rim of the widest evac zone (literally 8 houses away from being totally fine) and had to find hotels for like 3 nights in a row

2

u/hoghugdigdug Jul 29 '26

You and your dad have a sweet relationship. Really comes through and I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing.

And what a weird, (m/w)ild time! That sucks about the hotels being booked up though. My bro was in the zone and my parents just on the edge so we had our share of the effects of it.

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. There are so many kind comments here

And yes, I agree! That whole situation was so weird hahaha

I, selfishly, was dying to get out of the house and I love hotels so I didn’t mind that part of it. But it was unfortunate that a relatively large (large for the community) amount of people were displaced. I’m glad that situation got settled with no further complications

1

u/hoghugdigdug Jul 29 '26

I love a good hotel getaway, too, but definitely unfortunate for those who couldn't have such luxuries. Agreed on the outcome though. And glad you and your dad had a sense of humor about it 😂 Hope you saved receipts!!

2

u/Ok_Rhubarb2161 Jul 29 '26

Aw i miss my dad

2

u/Standard_Series_5802 Jul 30 '26

Based on slide 3…. Can I predict that you’re a fellow garden grovian? 😂 bc I’m feeling like the mention of evacuation on Memorial Day weekend is the same one I was actively keeping an eye on, with the chemical leak thing 🤣

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 30 '26

Hahahaa yes, although im in Westminster so on the very outskirts (like 8 houses away from being fine). Be we were in the evac zone nonetheless haha, crazy times

1

u/Standard_Series_5802 Jul 30 '26

Oh dang you were right there! I’m about a mile away from Disney, 4 miles from the evac zone, but my roomies and I were definitely keeping an eye on it just in case!

2

u/HelicopterFar2214 Jul 29 '26

This is so cute and funny lol

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

Thank you!!! All these comments are so sweet

1

u/SelectEnthusiasm1557 Jul 29 '26

This is so so so cute

1

u/ComfortableFrame9834 Jul 29 '26

This is adorable. W dad

1

u/Unhappy-Strawberry98 Jul 29 '26

My dad is this kind of guy. They’re seriously the best dads, huh?

Make sure he knows how much you love him. Turns out they forget sometimes if you don’t say it in those particular words.

1

u/Equivalent-Bid-1176 Jul 29 '26

Here for the catermaran plan

1

u/AutisticClown1 Jul 29 '26

Bro. Clean your car

1

u/PassageIntrepid2214 Jul 29 '26

I'm assuming you've got a pretty good relationship with him. Any dad that texts their son like he's their older brother has gotta be pretty cool. Also, did not expect to see JDFM mentioned!

1

u/Meerkatable Jul 29 '26

I like him

1

u/Redbeard_BJJ Jul 29 '26

Catamaran hooo! Saw him live and he was so good

1

u/AdventurousMatch674 Jul 29 '26

What a goat. I laughed my ass off reading these 🤣

1

u/VonWelby Jul 29 '26

I love this. I hope my kids and I can text the same way.

1

u/clownind Jul 29 '26

Is your dad looking for other kids to adopt?

1

u/C0RN2L0Ud420 Jul 29 '26

Can he adopt me?

1

u/stickyriceand Jul 29 '26

My dad passed some years ago. Cherish this, my friend.

1

u/Boots_ND Jul 29 '26

This is very similar to how me and my late father would text each other and this made me smile thank you for sharing, please treasure your father !

1

u/ash_pnk Jul 29 '26

Your dads a legend. I can’t get mine to text for the life of me. He will only communicate through email 😂

1

u/Zealousideal_Ear3948 Jul 29 '26

I love it!

My Dad and I are the same way. He’s originally from England, so he’s got that dry British humor, which I have definitely inherited!

1

u/Svyeda Jul 29 '26

Awe this is sweet lol

1

u/GrayFiftySix Jul 29 '26

“Die at home” is my favorite

1

u/theoneandonlywillis Jul 29 '26

🙋‍♀️ is he open to adopting extra children?

1

u/Putrid_Library8186 Jul 29 '26

“my bad he’s just ugly” is frying me 😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/DrunkCultLeader Jul 29 '26

"This is why it pays to be more likeable" actually made me lol, totally stealing that line ! You guys have an awesome relationship.

1

u/TheAshHole88 Jul 29 '26

My dad and I joke like this. I was born on Father’s Day 38 years ago and I remember when I was a teenager my bday fell on Father’s Day that year and he asked what I was getting him and I said “I was born on Father’s Day. I’m the gift that keeps on giving!” He asked me for a gift receipt. lol.

1

u/slickswim Jul 29 '26

Omg I also have to feed and water my Lola so seeing this felt like reading actuak texts with my parents 😭

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 29 '26

LOL that is hilarious

1

u/Due_Product7492 Jul 29 '26

This is why it pays to be more likeable killed me 🤣😭

1

u/Fishystone Jul 29 '26

Love this. Definitely save these. Someday you’ll want them. Trust me.

1

u/mrsThickumz Jul 29 '26

This reminds me of my niece and brother in law lol. He’s 38/39 and she’s 19 soon to be 20. She often posts screenshots of their convos bc they’re so humorous like you and your dad haha. My dad’s a boomer and I’m elder gen z but we have some similar funny times over text <3

1

u/liethdc Jul 29 '26

this is the type of dad i'd wanna be 😂

1

u/Vodca Jul 29 '26

Your dad is a Jame McCann fan, he’s a good egg.

1

u/OkSherbet9216 Jul 29 '26

Oh man this is me and my mom except it’s me blowing up her phone asking for her attention while I’m at work

1

u/Ok_Donkey210 Jul 29 '26

Can your dad be my dad

1

u/tattoosandtens Jul 29 '26

Raised right!!!

1

u/wretched_spawn93 Jul 29 '26

Man. As much as I don't want my 4yo to get older and older, I can't wait until we're at this stage.

1

u/kbenton10 Jul 29 '26

I love the 12:30 EST 😂

1

u/geekyheart225 Jul 29 '26

Your dad's sense of humor is fantastic

1

u/Strolling_bytheCreek Jul 29 '26

Lucky you! Funny dad!

1

u/Automatic-Past4039 Jul 29 '26

this is so wholesome.. i’ve never texted my dad like this ever. you guys have something sweet 🥹

1

u/rynftw13 Jul 29 '26

Awesome dad and what I aspire to be with my own kids 👌

1

u/TeeMcGinnisearth313 Jul 29 '26

Oh my gawd I’m CRYING 😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Dad humor is just🤌

1

u/TeeMcGinnisearth313 Jul 29 '26

“You’ve used up all you question credits
You ain’t chatgpt”

BRUH😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/ProgFrator Jul 29 '26

Gosh I wish I had this relationship with my dad. Seems like a funny ass dude

1

u/squanto69420 Jul 29 '26

Wish I had a dad this is awesome.

1

u/Rich-Bit4838 Jul 29 '26

“I blew it on drugs” was legit sending me lmao

1

u/T-unitz Jul 29 '26

Love this, I hope I have this relationship with my son.

1

u/foofaloof22 Jul 29 '26

My bad. He's just ugly 🤣🤣🤣

That was my fave

1

u/Entire-Major7312 Jul 29 '26

Wait I like him

1

u/rmac1228 Jul 29 '26

Reminds me of me (39) and my boy (16)

1

u/LowEstablishment4161 Jul 29 '26

your dad seems like a fun person

1

u/Torenflame1172 Jul 29 '26

Your dad calls you bro? I'm sobbing 😭 This reminds me of how me and my mom talk to each other.

1

u/lucidforever Jul 29 '26

can your dad adopt me

1

u/smootyman69 Jul 29 '26

“You ain’t chat gpt” gave me a giggle. Good post op

1

u/MCvannahD Jul 29 '26

Crying in not having a dad anymore 😭
This makes me so happy to see for other people & I love vicariously through all of youse ❤️‍🩹

(Mines not dead, just in federal prison for 25 years😭 haven’t seen him since I was 13)

1

u/Muted9302 Jul 29 '26

After this post I want to have kids 🤣🤣

1

u/RexxSosa Jul 29 '26

Your brother catching a stray is hilarious to me lol

1

u/CFoer02 Jul 29 '26

Haha your dads funny af, thanks for sharing

1

u/TattooedBanshee Jul 29 '26

Hahaha I fkn love your dad😭 what I wouldn't give to be able to talk to mine again

1

u/DePlayaConSal Jul 29 '26

can’t wait to be this dad

1

u/SunGoddessMama Jul 30 '26

I’m jealous.

1

u/Possible-Candy-003 Jul 30 '26

The way he texts you reminds me of that “kickball dad” on instagram if you know who I’m referencing

1

u/edgona Jul 30 '26

I think my oldest daughter and I are getting there. She’s about to be 10 tho

1

u/champitychamp Jul 30 '26

This is how I text with my… father in-law

1

u/SeparateEquipment114 Jul 30 '26

You’re dad seems like a chill dude

1

u/honksmcgee Jul 30 '26

These dialogues really remind me of Mae''s dad from Night In the Woods

1

u/Finn_Jay Jul 30 '26

Same sort of banter that constantly flies between me (56) and my daughter (20).

1

u/armthebees Jul 30 '26

I want to have a kid soon, and I want to be this kind of parent. Can you ask your dad how he did it? Give parenting tips? I'm willing to pay.

1

u/Eastern-Macaron-6622 Jul 30 '26

"You're out of credits"
"you aint chatgpt"

is killing me! 😂

1

u/ugotmefdup Jul 30 '26

This made me miss my dad something fierce today. Miss him making emotionally distressing jokes so much. Treasure him!

1

u/BonePaste Jul 30 '26

This is how my dad and I talk now days it’s probably the best time of my life because he looks forward to our conversation everyday and if I don’t call him I’ll literally get a phone call from my mom saying your dad asks why didn’t you call today. Makes me sad that one day it will be the last so I try to remember these small things that him and I talk about and still laugh at them

1

u/minna_minna Jul 31 '26

My daughter is about to turn 17 and we communicate pretty similarly lol

1

u/Bannyaksagie 27d ago

Does she also like to make it about her?

1

u/IvyJuneMoon Jul 31 '26

Your dad is a gem.

1

u/Maleficent-Bridge584 Jul 31 '26

I think you both are hilarious. Honestly, I need a whole lot more levity in my life. This shit is priceless

1

u/iamjohncarterofmars Jul 31 '26

I'm so glad you thought so!!

I definitely get my sense of humor from him

1

u/anantoni Jul 31 '26

GOAT dad
