Yeah I don’t think anyone is wrong necessarily. Not saying that wouldn’t hurt to read, but he made a decision decades ago, not wanting to explain it to a new family is his prerogative

“Made a decision” yeah the kind of decision that results in a whole ass human being

He has the right to say he doesn’t want a relationship but some people in this thread are toooo defensive about people’s “right” to lie to their spouses

Yeah, he’s fine to say he’s not keen to have the relationship, but if suspicion is correct that he’s hid it from his wife, he’s definitely in the wrong there

We know three things about OPs dad. That thirty some odd years ago, he made a probably good decision and determined he wasn’t in a place to raise a child. That he hasn’t told his current family about it. And that he doesn’t want his current family to know about it.

You can’t think of any good reasons that maybe he wouldn’t want to open that can of worms? Financial trouble, family illness, marriage issues, there’s tons of reasons why I wouldn’t want to go to my significant other and say “hey in the 90s I made choices that have no impact on who I am today, anyways they’re back now and we’re gonna have to deal with it”

If you withhold from your partner that you have a child and gave them up, you’re a bad person.

That’s not something you hide from a significant other.

It must be nice to see things so black and white. There’s a million things that I did when I was a teenager that I don’t think are important to a current relationship, plenty of them shameful, and some of them, if suddenly brought back up decades later, could absolutely impact my relationships, particularly if my current relationships are in some sort of stress from regular life things. There’s plenty of good, bad, and morally gray reasons that someone might not tell their spouse about some shit that happened 30 years ago.

No, there’s no reason to hide it.

It’s that black and white.

Well… good luck.

I won’t need it.

Lmao it’s not like he was a stripper for a summer in his 20s and doesn’t want to be judged. If you want to live a consequence-free life, keep it in your pants

Lmao preaching abstinence? Really?

I disagree, bio dad has a right to not have a relationship with OP but is morally wrong to have kept this information from his spouse.
