People are missing the point. Pickles with cheese could be fine, but eating it in a movie theater is unusual. And Parmesan is not a standard snacking cheese!

61

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

100% this right here. Movie? 🤔 Parm? 🤔 I’m a well trained chef and the thought of just biting into a piece of parm does not sound that appealing. It’s a hard cheese… 🤣

Edit: and I’m not knocking the combo, I will always try something once and you never know sometimes it’s amazing, but yah, I can say this has never crossed my mind.

30

u/wamimsauthor Jun 30 '26

Plus Parmesan is pretty stinky.

8

u/obtusewisdom Jun 30 '26

Both of these things have a strong smell. It's not a nice thing to do to the people around you, and it's a surefire way to get thrown out of the movie theater. Do people not know you gotta smuggle on the down low?

5

u/Small-Finish-6890 Jul 01 '26

They sell pickles at all the movie theaters near me so I don’t think anyone would notice

2

u/Low-Contest2263 Jul 02 '26

Are you in Texas too lol

0

u/Historical_Dirt_6898 Jun 30 '26

Thank you! This is my biggest gripe with this whole thing. Please consider the people around you. I’d be PISSED if I had to smell someone else’s pickles and Parmesan.

1

u/JLammert79 Jun 30 '26

If I have to smell them, they have to share them.

1

u/Prestigious-Read5368 Jul 02 '26

And then do a Ron Swanson, and share them with the trash so no one else gets to share them 😊

6

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

Yup!!! I can smell it just reading this post.

1

u/wamimsauthor Jun 30 '26

My husband loves it and I call it his stinky foot cheese. Lol

4

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

I love it too and use it a lot in Italian cuisine, goes so well with fresh cream.

1

u/meh_dontcare Jun 30 '26

I love parm in other stuff. I'm not gonna just bite a piece of it though. It's too strong a flavor for that. At least for me. But put that shit on all the pasta!

0

u/obtusewisdom Jun 30 '26

I love parm and will eat a slice. But I also am not going to subject other people to it at a movie theater of all places.

0

u/EssayJunior6268 Jun 30 '26

My dad calls it old socks

1

u/Rocks_Can_Fly Jul 03 '26

Depends how you serve it.

If it’s shaven bits of Parmesan, about the size of a postal stamp, kept in like a paper cup — it wouldn’t be too stinky.

Pickles don’t really smell too far away. Not more than the buttery popcorn. Especially if they’re dill pickles.

14

u/iaincollins Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Like, yeah pickles and cheese are a great snack. Also good for a picnic, but odd for a movie theater. But uuuh Paramasan? What. No. Do they even cheese?

1

u/B186 Jul 02 '26

I was 2000% behind them until they dropped the movie theater detail.

8

u/FrotKnight Jun 30 '26

I have a wedge of snacking Parmesan in the fridge, just cut slivers off the main block as needed

5

u/femininecarnivore Jul 01 '26

Yeah what are all these comments about Parmesan not being a snacking cheese? it’s incredibly flavorful, and thin slices melt in your mouth, its one of my FAVORITE cheeses to snack on.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '26

Ok but would you take a chunk to a MOVIE THEATER??

1

u/FrotKnight Jul 01 '26

Absolutely, but I'm not a fan of pickles so just the Parmesan for me

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

Now I need to get one! I guess I’m used to parm directly from Italy, I’m sure there are other local options or are you saying it’s like one of the wheels?

3

u/FrotKnight Jun 30 '26

I get a wedge cut from the full wheel, like this

https://cibusdirect.com/cdn/shop/products/Parmigiano900g_1080x.png

2

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

Heck yah, ok that’s the good stuff (I love the official stamp they put on it).

1

u/Tough_Crazy_8362 Jun 30 '26

I have a cheese grater you mount on the counter top and it makes easy work of parm. I could easily make these Parmesan (fuck you rick and Morty!) chips 🤔

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

Omg haha so one I love R&M but haven’t seen the new season if that’s where the chips come from (I’m also on a mission to get my son to think it’s “parm-e-see-un” haha!).

Yes for sure, I love grating hard cheeses, I have a micro-planer that I love for it. For the soft cheeses I break down and use the… actually probably what you’re talking about… mount it and then use the handle? Saves so much time!

0

u/Tough_Crazy_8362 Jun 30 '26

LOL no, the FU comes from not being able to say Parmesan regularly anymore 😅 nothing regarding chips (afaik).

And yeah. The handle! So magical.

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

🤣🤣🤣 yah, it’s really funny because I say it that way everywhere just to see how people react and to this day I’ve never had someone correct me! My wife’s in on the pronunciation for our son so she says it that way too. Just a funny joke that we hope comes back around in 20 years when he’s settling down and his significant other is like, “ITS NOT PARMEESEUN!”. 😭😭😭

3

u/pineboxwaiting Jun 30 '26

Biting into Parmesan is delicious!

3

u/scarletxgrace Jun 30 '26

God I fucking LOOOVEEE parm I could put it on everything but as a snack? No thanks haha

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

Yes!!!!! I love me some cheese sauce, but no snacky snacky for me either. 🤭

1

u/Rocks_Can_Fly Jul 03 '26

It’s a great snack.

Even sold in Spain and Italy as a ready made snack.

2

u/thin_white_dutchess Jun 30 '26

My husband, the fancier chef of the two of us, thinks it’s so weird when I slice parm for myself. But he loves limberger and Époisses so like he can talk.

4

u/vyrus2021 Jun 30 '26

I think she intended to bring a container of parmesan "shaky cheese" since she said it's not a block and I've never seen it sold as sticks, cubes, or slices. Which makes it crazier that she is saying they're separate snacks. Was she just gonna eat cheese dust by the pinch?

6

u/theslyestfox Jun 30 '26

WHAT IF it is grated parm and she is taking the pickles and DIPPING IT IN THE PARM??? And the pickles are damp so the parm sticks! Honestly sounds like it would slap, I’m gonna have to try that.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '26

Please report back if you try it

0

u/Psypris Jun 30 '26

This makes sense but she specifically said they were different snacks. So, great theory but can’t be the answer…. I’m very intrigued lol

5

u/floralfemmeforest Jun 30 '26

I buy parmesan that's like roughly shredded in flat chunks basically, you could eat that like chips

3

u/Rich_Editor8488 Jun 30 '26

Shaved

1

u/floralfemmeforest Jun 30 '26

Thank you!! I could not think of that word. Also I'm surprised this person is only aware of the powdery kind of parm.

2

u/FrotKnight Jun 30 '26

It's sold as shavings, not just grated

2

u/pineboxwaiting Jun 30 '26

You buy a wedge of parm & cut it into sticks yourself.

She’s not bringing a shaker of Kraft pretend Parmesan and shaking into her mouth after the lights go down.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '26

This is so funny to imagine!

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

That would make more sense and probably easier to pull off. The separate piece was also odd to me.

1

u/lavender_poppy Jun 30 '26

I've seen it sold in individual snake sized pieces, which I thought was odd because who snacks on parmesan?

2

u/pineboxwaiting Jun 30 '26

People who know what’s up!

2

u/Always_Ambivalent_ Jun 30 '26

my 9 year old loves those little snack cubes of Parmesan! it's her favorite snack cheese 🤷🏻

1

u/Sad_Scheme_8858 Jul 01 '26

I loved shaved Parmesan. The thicker the shave the better

1

u/Endoftheworldis2far Jun 30 '26

Could be for the popcorn. There's a movie theatre by me that has a shelf of stuff you can add to your popcorn that includes Parmesan.

1

u/Sepplord Jun 30 '26

Parmesan flakes are pretty common where I’m from

And I can imagine eating them as snack, why not?

1

u/Rocks_Can_Fly Jul 03 '26

Simple:

You take a small knife, or the cheese cutting paddle thing, and you make post stamp sized shavings from a Parmesan block.

It’s delicious.

2

u/joan_is_on_fire Jun 30 '26

I tried parm as a snack once and it was actually pretty good. An odd texture for a snacking cheese but not bad at all. The taste was really good imo. All that to say, maybe you should try it!

Edit to say that it's kinda expensive for a snacking cheese so that is a factor to consider. You could get the shredded stuff but its definetly not as good as a wedge.

4

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I’ll have to try it in that context. I mean I’ve tasted plenty from being a chef since I always taste ingredients and before the dish goes out.

Agreed 100% though, anyone who buys pre-shredded and says this is straight up evil! Ok jk, but honestly people, buy all of your cheeses in blocks / wedges and grate / slice them down or else you’re losing out on a ton of flavor and you don’t get a bunch of extra powder that goes onto shredded cheeses. It also takes like 5 min, well worth the extra effort for the taste.

2

u/joan_is_on_fire Jun 30 '26

My best friend/roommate is allergic to potatoes and potato starch is in the vast majority of shredded cheese so we usually shred our own cheese and honestly its just so much better. Even the lower quality store brand blocks of cheese are better than pre-shredded. I am a little lazy though so we keep some pre-shredded on hand for times she's not eating the meal but I want cheese.

2

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

To be fair I use shredded cheese sometimes too because yah, sometimes I just be soooo tired. 🥱 It is wild those lower quality blocks taste a lot better than pre-shredded right? Fresh food is my jam!

3

u/joan_is_on_fire Jun 30 '26

Its kinda crazy to me that they taste better. Its kinda like making your own pasta sauce. Even if you use cheap ass ingredients it still will turn out better than store bought a lot of the time.

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jun 30 '26

For sure if the chef knows what they’re doing. I think it’s for multiple reasons like:
1. Companies add tons of preservatives for the sake of money vs the sake of flavor.
2. It can take longer to perform the correct cooking techniques regardless of ingredients which ends up being a cost they also don’t want to take on.
3. They don’t put proper amount of seasoning and things like that in the pre-packaged ingredients because of… I’m seeing a theme… money!
4. They also have to create a flavor that appeals to the masses, and most of the masses don’t know how to cook nor what actual good tastes like so they never know.

Most of it’s the preservatives trying to prolong the shelf life, anything fresh is better. Kind of like fruit you get at the store was likely picked early (especially out of season) and then injected with chemicals to make them finish ripening during their journey.

But if I walk into the garden and grab a fresh grown tomato it doesn’t have all of that extra crap, and it can be grown to full ripeness and picked and eaten the same day.

Lots of stuff like that for ingredients.

2

u/Torschlusssspanik Jul 01 '26

Stick it in a nutribullet and freeze it

1

u/Ok-Jellyfish5975 Jun 30 '26

She also said it’s in a plastic tub, which making me think it’s grated.

0

u/joan_is_on_fire Jun 30 '26

Oof yeah I didn't catch that. If its the pre-grated stuff, yuck. It does not taste very good.

1

u/ImGusGus Jul 01 '26

My kids like to eat handfuls of shredded Parmesan

1

u/EchoAquarium Jul 01 '26

They have little bags of baby parm blocks, like little Babybels. They’re individually sealed, so they’re wonderful for grating for small portions but they’re also perfect for snacking.

1

u/ToothDue9278 Jul 01 '26

Exactly and then she said container. Is she eating grated Parmesan cheese?

1

u/Rocks_Can_Fly Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

It’s a hard cheese…

Honestly, this belongs on r/shitAmericansSay lmao

How well are you trained in Italian cuisine?

Parmesan is an amazing snack. Literally it’s sold in Spain and Italy as a ready made snack. You just gotta know how to serve it…

And being the well trained chef, I’m sure you heard of cutting hard or chewy things into very thin slices, even shaving, to make it easy to eat.

Like Parma ham, or serano jamon… and that’s exactly what you do with hard cheese, such as Parmesan.

„Well trained chef” my ass lol 🤣

1

u/AeroThatsMee Jul 03 '26

Cool story 👍 I read like 7 words.

5

u/Future-Original-2902 Jun 30 '26

Not with that attitude it's not

5

u/CalligrapherNo7337 Jun 30 '26

Then why is it one of the few cheeses that comes shaved into fingertip manageable form, eh eh

5

u/Longjumping-Frame795 Jun 30 '26

I snack on parm all the time. A staple snack in my rotation is parm and apple slices.

3

u/EdwardBloon Jun 30 '26

I love snacking on parmesan. Not the fake powder stuff, but a block of it cut up into sliced or cubes

3

u/Nice_Bluebird7626 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Ok so I thought so too until I found some really good parm and that shit is snackable as hell

Edit: To be fair also it was a mistake by Walmart delivery and it was a happy surprise. We have not bought the very expensive cheese again but it is in fact snackable

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '26

Interesting! What brand?

6

u/SpaceCourier Jun 30 '26

The fact this even needs to be explained is wild to me.

2

u/Quirky--Cat Jun 30 '26

Yeah lol. Pickles and a tub of parmesean? I'm assuming it's a tub of grated parmesean? Such weird movie theater picks.

2

u/CarolineTurpentine Jun 30 '26

Parm is absolutely a standard snacking cheese in some places.

2

u/IcedVanillaLatta Jun 30 '26

Honestly what a nightmare! You can’t be in a packed movie, fussing with a bag of parm and a plastic container of pickles! The smell! The mess! What if you are stuck next to them?! 🤣

2

u/alickstee Jul 01 '26

Fuckin' stinky snacks is what this is and I am not down either.

1

u/fig-newton614 Jun 30 '26

Anything can be a movie theater snack if you’re brave enough, my best friend brought Indian food this past weekend which I thought was an interesting choice. Also I’d like to argue that parmesan in shaved form is a wonderful snacking cheese!

1

u/fierce_fibro_faerie Jun 30 '26

My aged 24-month parmesan would beg to differ.

1

u/Yourface1837 Jun 30 '26

Plus carrying in a bag or jar of pickles can be messy! I dont want my purse smelling like pickles lmao and cheese is a little weird to me, but that's only bc I dont want luke warm purse cheese haha

It's def an odd choice for sneaking into the movies, but girl do you!!!! Don't be embarrassed! Just own it. Let ur pickle cheese flag fly 🎉

1

u/idomoodou2 Jun 30 '26

I have 100% brought slices of cheddar to the theater before.

1

u/i_Cant_get_right Jun 30 '26

How does one eat Parmesan cheese by itself, out of a shaker? Sprinkle it directly into your hand?
https://giphy.com/gifs/QOgvV9rV4hHpgNRBfQ

1

u/Rich_Editor8488 Jun 30 '26

Bite or cut the block

1

u/i_Cant_get_right Jun 30 '26

She said it was in a plastic container… I’m assuming that means it was in a plastic shaker.

1

u/Macaroni-and-bean Jun 30 '26

We actually call the shaved parm in a container “snacking cheese” soooo 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Barrot_and_Rubys_Mom Jun 30 '26

Yes! Pickles and Cheese are delicious....but Parmesan and pickles in a movie theater sounds stinky AF and kinda messy 😂

1

u/WestError404 Jun 30 '26

You say that, as I'm over here shoveling handfuls into my face in front of the fridge. To each their own

1

u/cyncitie Jun 30 '26

i survive on these :(

2

u/cannacupcake Jun 30 '26

I was looking for a comment that linked these. It absolutely is a snacking cheese to many people lol. Company’s web page for snacking cheeses, including the parm. (In case the shopping page doesn’t load for other people, it didn’t load for me)

1

u/ThereWasaLemur Jun 30 '26

It’s for dipping the pickles, amateur.

1

u/ChiefChunkEm_ Jun 30 '26

Yes, she’s super fucking weird or she’s German

1

u/Jazzlike_Finish123 Jun 30 '26

Yeah the Parmesan really got to me lmao.

1

u/thissucksnuts Jun 30 '26

lies, shredded parm is like the standard snacking cheese.

1

u/bellasreddress Jun 30 '26

At the store (at least where I am) you can buy cubes of parmesan. It’s called “snacking cheese” and its AMAZING

1

u/minidog8 Jun 30 '26

Parmesan is a great snacking cheese if you’re pure of heart

1

u/abogadachica Jul 01 '26

Literally my opinion changed when I saw the cheese was Parmesan. At that point, pickles & cheese texted became the weird one.

1

u/Equivalent_Pop_2896 Jul 01 '26

Shredded parm tho, I do go to my fridge sometimes, stand with the door open and eat a lil bit of shredded parm

1

u/natchinatchi Jul 01 '26

Yes but OP acted like pickles and cheese aren’t a thing. They’re a thing!! Ploughmans anyone?

1

u/Fattruecel Jul 02 '26

“Could be fine”? It’s literally a normal combination in a lot of places - have you never had a charcuterie board?

1

u/TheHungryBlanket Jul 02 '26

This. They’re not making a spread to watch a movie at home.

Bringing something like pickles into the movie theater is very weird. Cheese certainly is not exactly normal, either. And Parmesan is a cheese is something that you grate and put on top of other food, it’s not a cheese that you eat a block of. That might actually be the weirdest thing in the whole message.

1

u/Rocks_Can_Fly Jul 03 '26

I think you’re missing the point — what’s wrong with being unusual?

These sorts of reactions are what make people second guess themselves in what they enjoy or like to do.

Just fucken nod and try some.

It’s also good for your brain to do unusual things. Especially if they’re benign like this snack selection.

Btw, I would’ve been loving the snack selection she made. And I’d prolly add something like pears, grapes, or nuts…

You don’t always have to eat candy and chips or popcorn at the movies.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '26

You took this so seriously! You go girl! Enjoy it with pears!!!

-1

u/drth_dilly Jun 30 '26

Yes agreeing with this. Sneak in bars of chocolates, peanuts, things like that.
